A "Mix"

edit

Rather than "a mix" of staff, how about "a diverse mix". Would a more diverse staff and community of wikipedians be a stronger wikipedia? If you agree, how could/should diversity be measured? If you a don't think diversity is good, why not? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 168.230.130.248 (talk • contribs) 2009-12-28T13:26:50.

Translations

edit

The wmf:Values page is on the WMF-wiki sidebar under 'Corporate', with links from wmf:Mission and wmf:Vision, a fundraising campaign that links to it (wmf:Transparency) and is mentioned in wmf:Form 990 Questions and Answers (2008), wmf:Form 2009 Questions and Answers, and wmf:Financial Reports/Form 990 FAQ 2010. Many affiliates use these values as their own, sometimes with minor differences.

But the WMF page doesnt appear to be 'official', doesnt appear to be translated at all, and this meta page is a few sets of ideas rather than a 'final' version like mission and values.

I'm thinking we should move Values or Values/Unstable, and then we create Values an exact copy of wmf:Values, marked for translation. John Vandenberg (talk) 13:47, 8 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Done. The previous version of the page now lives at Values/2007 discussion, and I've imported the exact copy from wmf:Values instead and marked it for translation. However, I don't believe the page should necessarily remain an exact copy. As mentioned on the page, Values may evolve, and I'd like to add some content about that. For now, I've only marked the stable content (the current values) as translatable, while I'm doing some further editing on the rest of the page. guillom 20:16, 14 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Integrity

edit

I believe "integrity" should be clearly articulated as a value. It is perhaps more central than anything else discussed; see my message here for more of my reasoning. I don't have specific text to propose as of now, but curious what others think. -Pete F (talk) 18:15, 14 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

I'll write more details later, but I'm setting up a space at Values/Review/2016 for a review of our current set of values. I was going to include your proposal from the mailing list :) guillom 20:16, 14 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
Wonderful. Carry on :) -Pete F (talk) 20:18, 14 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
Pete F: I am mostly done organizing the pages, and writing Values/History and Values/Review/2016. In the current context, I don't feel that I have the energy to lead this process myself, but I wanted to document my knowledge publicly so that others could pick up the discussion. Feel free to advertise this in channels you feel are appropriate. guillom 22:36, 18 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Move to "Wikimedia Foundation Values"?

edit

Friends, Should we move this page to a Foundation-specific title, to make space for a movement-wide discussion? Adamw (talk) 20:57, 23 February 2017 (UTC)Reply

IFLA code of ethics

edit

I thought https://www.ifla.org/publications/node/11092 was worth sharing and I guess this is a better place than other. Some interests we share:

  • non-discrimination,
  • language minorities,
  • autonomous information,
  • information literacy,
  • neutrality,
  • privacy,
  • transparency,
  • open access.

Thanks for sharing. --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 09:59, 20 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Fix talk page redirect?

edit

I think some of the discussion here was intended for Talk:Values, but that page still redirects here. Break the redirect so we can start fresh? Adamw (talk) 20:02, 19 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Return to "Values/2008" page.
