Two Questions
editFirst Question: Is it possible to give Egil an acount? His kvalenberg.com is really good and hardly integrated in the german Wikipedia.
Second Question: Would it be possible to get something like http://awstats.sourceforge.net/ on the server for statistics. (My provider has it ans I find it good to see which Page is sucessfull and need more care.) Kolossos 19:31, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
- If you're talking about Wikimedia's project's web statistics, a similar program Webalizer was switched off a while ago, presumably for performance reasons. You may be interested in Logwood, although they seem to be offline at the moment. As for the user accounts... I dunno... maybe I actually need to IRC chat to these people, because I've submitted my request for a while, and besides one request by Katie to clarify my aims, I haven't recieved any confirmation/denial. Ambush Commander 20:22, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
i cannot give Egil an account until he replies to my last email. i am considering some kind of server statistics, but it will not be awstats. AC, i did not forget about your account, but i need to nag someone else about it... sorry for the delay :-( k.
- Ah, thanks. Sometimes emails can disappear into black holes... just yesterday I recieved an email purported to have been sent six months ago. Ambush Commander 22:06, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
Waiting
editAfter one and a half weeks, I would have expected to get some sort of feedback to my listing as "interested". I know all work on this is voluntary, but after bringing my Wikinews RSS feed script to a state worth discussing with others, I'm now stuck until I know whether or when I'll get an account. So if anybody can let me know what's going on, I'd be thankful. —da Pete 10:55, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
More waiting
editSame question as above; seems that it takes forever to get an account here. I also understand that volunteers work here, however, sooner or later you should reply to these people and either say yes, or no, or ask extra questions. Maybe more people should be given priveleges to be able to create accounts for users at the toolserver. en:Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 03:24, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

English Wikipedia
editHowdy - I am pining for the return of CatScan...it still says that the "toolserver version of the English Wikipedia is still corrupt and outdated." Any idea when this might be up and running? Cheers, Her Pegship 22:01, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
- Right now it really seems screwed up. Nothing for en is working there. ~MDD4696 22:00, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
Any further word?
editGreetings! Any news on when the toolserver copy of English Wikipedia copy will be fixed? Thanks - Her Pegship 20:57, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Status request
editI can imagine that restoring the toolserver is rather tedious work. But I also think contributors do deserve some update on what is going on more frequently. 790 12:46, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- OK now I found sth.: http://www.wp-blog.de/ yesterday, a database dump necessary for the reconstruction progress was prevented by another hardware failure. 790
- That's my blog :)
- We have added a "news"-box at the toolserver-main-page to show the status. There are no new news at the moment, we are still waiting for a dump :(. --DaB. 13:11, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
tool request page
editI thing it would be nice to have a Toolserver/Requests page, for tool requests and suggestions. The 'suggest a feature' link on the Toolserver Table of Contents points to en:User talk:Interiot... Waldir 13:22, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
very slow response times from tools.wikimedia.de
editIt takes roughly three minutes for me to run any tool linked to tools.wikimedia.de . I am running Mozilla on Debian stable, over a PPPoE account, and using iptables for packet filtering. Can't think of anything else offhand that might be relevant about my configuration. Any ideas what's going on here? I don't find that websites in general are slow for me, so I think this has to count as a bug in the toolserver.
By the way I've tried other browsers. Konqueror times out; I can't get through at all. Epiphany shows the same behavior as mozilla, as does w3m (a text browser). --Trovatore 09:16, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- Do you have a IPv6-Adress with a broken IPv6-Tunnel? --DaB. 17:44, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- I drop all IPv6 packets, because I don't know which ones are safe, and I hadn't prior to this seen anywhere that I needed them. Can you suggest IPv6 rules that will be maximally safe, without causing this problem? --Trovatore 00:04, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, but I have no reason to think I have an IPv6 address. How would I tell? --Trovatore 02:45, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
- Update: I (very briefly!) turned off all IPv6 filtering. It made no difference. --Trovatore 06:04, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
Download the tool server
editIs it possible for someone to download the tool server tools, in one package, to setup their own toolserver for their wiki? — The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.217.192.176 (talk)
- No. At this point, I don't think every one's source code is even directly accessible (certainly not in any uniform manner, considering the number of programming languages used.) --Connel MacKenzie 17:08, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
- should be, defiantley could be useful for those with their own wikis running mediawiki. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.217.194.22 (talk)
Enwiki replication lag?
editAny word on why the English replication lag started growing about a month ago? It's now 30 days. —Dgies
- As I understand it, en: replication was turned off in sometime in early Feb (there are 4th Feb timestamps in the toolserver db), so has been growing in a straight line (if you look at the graphs) ever since. This was done because the en: lag was growing in any case, and the total server load was such that it was affecting the other wikis, too. I believe the plan is to purchase additional hardware, and run the en: and the [everything else]: replications separately. I'm not sure what the exact timescale on that is, however. (I'm hoping fairly soon, given the epic nature of the wait between successive db dumps.) Alai 13:30, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
- I don't suppose they could turn it back on at "nice +19"? Dgies 00:31, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
- the problem isn't CPU load, it's the disk i/o that mysqld uses for replication. Kate

Request for TS-Access to do HTML-dumps of various WM-projects
editHi,
I' developing scripts to turn Mediawiki-HTML-Dumps into eBooks suitable for mobile devices (see http://pinguinburg.de/wpmp for details). This works fine for the Wikipedia itself (because HTML-dumps are available via http://static.wikipedia.de ). However, other interesting projects like wiktionary aren't covered by this service. This is why I'd like to do HTML-dumps myself.
Thank you. Frank1212

editHello,
I'd like to know if there is a tool for finding all users with the same username throughout all of the wiki projects? - thank You in advance. best regards, 87.79.231.44 16:51, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, try this. Adambro 17:09, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
- Hello Adambro,
yep, that's exactly what i was looking for. - Many thanks and best regards, 87.79.215.15 02:24, 22 January 2008 (UTC) (former 87.79.231.44)
- Hello Adambro,
Transliterator tool
editHello! I have written a small program that can transliterate Cyrillic characters into Latin ones, according to the transliteration rules of ISO/R 9 (1968). Other rules can be created by the user (this is configurable). This tool might be useful for the Italian Wikipedia because ISO/R 9 transliterations are used as article titles. The program is under GPL and written in Java.
I wonder if someone could upload this program for me, or give me an account on the toolserver so I could do it on my own.

Account for an Interwiki bot
editHello I would know if i could request an account for a bot whose main activity is interwiki. The reason is for using the toolserver system reliability instead of a private computer... I don't see this type of account here. Should I made the request under my user account or under the bot account ? This type of request will have a chance to lead ? --Gdgourou 09:39, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- I can't say with certainty how likely you are to get an account, but I can say that you need to do it under your user account, at Toolserver/New accounts. —Giggy 09:49, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, I know where requesting an account on toolserver but, because i don't really see any interwiki bot on toolserver, I'm asking me if this type of bot are perhaps "unwanted" on it. No idea about that ? --Gdgourou 15:24, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, I don't know for sure. :-( Contacting a prolific interwiki bot operator or two (like the operators of any interwiki bots here) might help. Cheers. —Giggy 11:45, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
- Try #wikimedia-toolserver on freenode or mail:toolserver-l. --Erwin(85) 14:13, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Criteria for the server allocation
editHello, due to the fact that the Spanish Wikipedia is considering to start using the CatSCan Tool massively both, thru gadgets and templates, I was wondering about the huge lag in the Spanish Wikipedia (almost 2 months). I don't know when the different projects where allocated to the 3 servers, but I cannot understand today's situation with regards to the Spanish Wikipedia. Its amount of users, articles and page views is located does not make it deserve server 3 with a lag of months. Doesn't it make sense to review the ressources allocation as we did with the ranking at http://www.wikipedia.org ?, best regards, --Poco a poco 21:30, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
- the problem is nothing to do with resource allocation, and the clusters were created by Wikimedia, not us. the problem with s3 replication should be resolved this week. Kate
%^
edit"I can't think of a reason why %^, should be disallowed offhand, but I'm sure there is one."

404: User account expired
editI keep getting this message when I try to run a toolserver program. For example:
- http://toolserver.org/~leon/toolserver/
- http://toolserver.org/~akl/accounts.php
Have these accounts really expired? Thanks. --Bruce1ee 08:25, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
- Yes. --Dschwen 12:16, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
- So that means that all the tools that run under these users have now died. On the Toolserver page there are at least 5 toolserver.org links that don't work because of expired user accounts. Can a current user not take over these tools? --Bruce1ee 15:04, 11 May 2010 (UTC)

- Thanks for the info. --Bruce1ee 15:32, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
- Why is Wikimedia not requiring all tools to be released under a free license? This seems really weird coming from Germany, since they even insist on using only free images on their Wikipedia. Trlkly 09:13, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
- "Me too" as to the request from Trikly. I used X!(Soxred93)'s new edit counter on a weekly/monthly basis and was very happy with its presentation of my edit history in a graphical form. This break-down of edits per category + the top list of my edited articles was very useful for me in getting an idea of what I've been doing with my life, these last four years spent with the Wikimedia projects. If there is another tool that can do this, I'd be more than happy in knowing this. If there's a possibility of useful tools getting a permanent place on Toolserver, I'd be more than willing to help getting that done. I'm not a scriptwriter but please let me know where to send more of my money to get this done. Best of wishes.--Paracel63 (talk) 15:14, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
- Update. It seems user TParis at enwp has relaunched the counter (link here: [2]). Many thanks to him.--Paracel63 (talk) 17:25, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

I'm writing a page in Korean Wikipedia, and the page introduces the Toolserver.
I want to check the exact meaning of "your local laws" in the Rules: "All uses of the toolservers must be legal under Dutch, German, US and your local laws."
Does it include both the user's nationality/citizenship and the location from which the user accesses to the Toolserver? For example, let's assume that a user named John's nationality is the United Kingdom and he's staying in France. He's accessing to the Toolserver and using tools on it. In this situation, does John's "local laws" is interpreted as both British and French laws? --Yes0song (talk) 10:26, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Why the counter works for English but not for Romanian Wikipedia?
