Update? Merge? Redirect?Edit

This seems like a good idea from 2008 that has since been superseded by a (slightly) different way of organizing and naming things. I wonder if this page should be merged and turned into a redirect to Wikimedia Thematic Organizations, perhaps? Also worth looking at the specific groups listed, and the relevant categories. (I found my way here because the new WikiWomen's Collaborative is categorized as a SIG, but it seems the "thematic" classification makes more sense under the current scheme put forth by the Affiliations Committee.) -Pete F (talk) 19:31, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

I guess putting on top an "outdated" notice and a pointer to Wikimedia User Groups and Wikimedia Thematic Organizations would be in order, and perhaps a link to the category with the list of projects. There is not necessarily a 100% overlap, because under the new framework, only groups doing offlineish work would be qualified and some of the SIG initiatives listed here are doing online work, being a sort of Meta WikiProjects, while many others still need to decide whether to "convert" to the new framework... --Bence (talk) 20:39, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
Yes, this all sounds good to me -- thank you for the quick reply. It looks as though the groups listed have not been active in several years (or never became "active" at all), so it may be a simple matter of applying the "outdated" notice on them as well. I have also notified SJ, who created this page, so let's see if he has anything useful to add before taking action. -Pete F (talk) 21:09, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
Correction -- I see that I was overlooking the pages that are categorized as SIGs: Category:Special interest groups So maybe there is a little work to be done figuring out what belongs where, after all. -Pete F (talk) 21:11, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
