Talk:How to add Google search to your MediaWiki Search Results Page

Latest comment: 15 years ago by Jake4d in topic I am trying it now

Does this Google toolbar functionality provide a plug-in to search the main Google.com site or does it provide Google searching of the local wiki?

TIA

-Aaron

article seems to discuss two different approaches. can anyone provide links to urls which demonstrate each?

I am trying it now

edit

I am using v1.13.1 on my site Debatrix and I am about to try following the instructions to add Google Search to my site. When I am finished I will try to come back here and update. You can periodically check the link to my site to see if I am successful even if I forget to come back and let everyone know if and how it works.--Jake4d 23:23, 26 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

So far I haven't been able to get it to work. I need help inserting the code in my /includes/sepcials/SpecialSearch.php --Jake4d 01:06, 27 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Does Google need to spider the entire site?

edit

My biggest concern is whether Google will need to spider the entire site in order to make this function work. I'm hesitant to do this because the wiki that operates on my server changes quite frequently and I don't want my server overloaded by spidering operations. Normal usage does quite the number on said site and my server already, thank you.  ;) Thanks! --IJ
