There is a debate in he-wp about the slogan "ויקיפדיה לנצח" ("Wikipedia Forever") and other slogans with the word "forever". Yoni tried to introduce a change: "ויקיפדיה למען הדורות הבאים" ("Wikipedia for Future Generations") and changing "לנצח" with the synonym "לעולמים" in the other slogans. I am not at all comfortable with that. Rest assure that the existing translations have been made by at least three native Hebrew speakers who live in Israel, and know the local culture. True, the slogans in Hebrew and English have been criticized on he-wp, but I haven't seen any clear suggestion for change, and I am not sure it is wise to change the slogans after they were published. I am not all against it, but it should not be a single person's decision. Dror_K 17:44, 14 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

I did so as there is a clear and cut consensus against the current translation you hade given on your own account. See also User Talk:Drork for actions against Drork's forcefull and sole decision to keep the current slogan as is. Drork, you werre removed your sysop rights from he.wikipedia for a reason. I suggest you do not interfere with he.wikipedia's decision to change your translation. you are not the sole decision maker. Yonidebest 17:49, 14 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yoni, you admitted manipulating he-wp's sitenotice in order to block the fundraising banners. I don't see how your behavior is helpful here. Please leave this issue alone and let other people handle it more prudentially. Dror_K 17:56, 14 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

It is helpfull because he.wikipedia wants the work "לנצח" removed from the messages. Also, you should note the translations of the french wikipedia that also are not "Wikipedia Forever" but "Wikipedia for Future Generations". you were kicked from he.wikipedia exactly because of this kind of behaviour - and I can only hope that others here are able to see this distructive behaviour of yours here too. I don't mind what translation is used (you guys have a creative license and can use whatever words you want, as long as they follow the same basic ideas), but you should agree and have support from other Hebrew speakers. Until there's support, let's leave them as they are (please let's not have revert wars in the global notices...). Cbrown1023 talk 22:19, 14 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Of course. As you can see in this page, at this moment 12 people support the removel of the word "לנצח" and none disagree. This only goes to show the needless reverts by Drork. Nevertheless, I agree that revert wars are futile. Let's wait some more and see what kind of support there is tomorrow, and then change the messages accordingly. Drork, I can only hope that next time you will pay more attention to the discusions in he.wikipedia and not disregard them only because they were not made in a meta page. I'm afraid I can't trust Yoni on this, and I'd rather not elaborate on the subject. I am a native Hebrew-speaker, so I can read and accurately understand the debates on he-wp. I haven't seen any decisive decision there yet. Furthermore, this issue goes beyond he-wp. Wikimedia Israel (the IL chapter) is also involved in the campaign and prepares its announcements according to these translations, so coordination is very important here. The page was open for edits for a long time prior to the launching of the campaign. I expect retrospective changes to be made in a more organized fashion. Dror_K 04:00, 15 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
I dont need your trust and dont expect Cbrown1023 to take my word as is. That is why I gave a reference which clearly shows the consensus, and one doesnt need to be a Hebrew speaker to see the green votes or use google translator. Yonidebest 18:37, 15 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Please revise messages according to the changes I made

edit

Hi Cbrown or anyone else who can help,

I am one of the three bureaucrats of he.wp (Hebrew Wikipedia) and I serve on the audit committee of the Israeli chapter.

I made a few revisions to the core messages in Hebrew. They reflect the consensual opinion of our local community, which has expressed its very strong dissatisfaction with some of the initial translations (and some other properties of the fundraising campaign) and has agreed (we even held a vote which showed sweeping support) that I would revise some of the wording to better adapt it to a more understated tone, as I had suggested.

I would ask you therefore to disregard the quarrel above between Dror_K and Yonidebest and accept the changes I made to this page a few minutes ago. Harel 17:41, 15 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

This should be done. See User talk:Cbrown1023#Hebrew core messages again. --Az1568 (talk) 06:48, 16 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
