Thanks for this very frank and quite detailed report; I hope WMF will follow WMDE's lead in transparency.

I especially liked the parts on mailings and SEPA transfers. We had a similar (small scale) experience in Italy too: sending postcards to thousands donors is perhaps the fundraising activity which satisfied the board the most (given they repeated it).

Possible areas to develop:

  • some explanatory text for the images in section "A/B-testing at Wikimedia Deutschland";
  • clarify the meaning of "ideal" and similar in sentences such as "the ideal time for the banner to appear is 7.5 seconds after the page has loaded", expand on how you measure the total annoyance to users i.e. the externalities of the banners.

Hi Nemo! Thanks for your feedback and questions! To your questions:
* Since there are explanatory descriptions of the pictures I'm not sure which informations you miss. What is it specificly? I'd be happy to give you more explanations.
* In these like in other tests we use measures like donation per impression which tell us if a modification of the banner - like the time span after which it is displayed - was succesful. During the last campaign we started tracking the number of clicks on the x of the banner. We didn't look in detail on it, yet. But during the campaign we did some ad hoc analysis and never saw real differences between the test groups.
