Neutral point of view

edit

Hello everyone (Tebhogho, LynnJibril, Lilian Viana, Stela Madruga, BiblioQC, Alequihdez, Mtenaespinoza, Nferranf and Bridges2Information). There is an obvious nationalistic bias in the enumeration of the countries of origin of the participants: there is no country called Catalonia/Spain, but Spain. The way of mentioning them puts on the same level a region and the country it belongs to, in fact presenting the region as if it were independent; this is the point of view of a Catalan nationalist who confuses his wishes with reality. The current wording violates the official Wikimedia policy of the neutral point of view (NPOV) and should be corrected, which can be done in one of two ways: mentioning only the country, as is done in the other cases (“...Mexico, Spain and the United States”) or including the region and the country in all cases: “...Mexico (Jalisco), Spain (Catalonia) and the United States (Oregon)”. If no one changes it, is there any impediment for me as a Wikimedia user to change it? Thank you for respecting Wikimedia policies. Pompilos (talk) 21:38, 16 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

On the table on the meta homepage there is a column for country. In that column you will see Spain. All other references are to “location” as each organizer chose to identify their location. There was no request for “country” and therefore each person was free to choose a region, city, county, state, country, or combination. Bridges2Information (talk) 05:10, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Of course I've seen the table, but have you read the whole page, or have you looked up the text I quoted in quotation marks? I'm referring to the sentence that says “organized by nine volunteer wikimedians, passionate about books and stories, located in Botswana, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Catalonia/Spain and the United States”. Yes, as I said, each organizer identified their location, as they chose. Not necessarily countries. We did not say, "in the following countries...", but instead, "locations". Catalonia, Spain is a location. Bridges2Information (talk) 16:35, 17 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
