Preserving history while merging

Is this possible? Or is there any preferred way when merging multiple articles? --MarSch 15:03, 26 May 2005 (UTC)

I usually create a REDIRECT. The history is stays with the original article title. See wp:Stovepipe--Gbleem 02:06, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

Hello?

Anybody here? It would be useful to setup something like a Mergist Awareness Project to tell people on the 'Pedia how, why and when to merge articles. Presently, many users don't know, and prefer to use the VfD process, which seems hardly appropriate. -- Radiant!

Guidelines!

Hi fellow Mergists!

I have just found this group, baffled over it's existence and joined since I immediately realized I share the beliefs stated in the introduction. I've read through this article and the contents of the talk pages and felt that one issue should be addressed (as someone already has stated above on Talk:Association_of_Mergist_Wikipedians#Hello.3F).

Guidelines.

Yes, it is quite tough, yes it must be quite general, but many things concerning wikipedia guidelines are general. Now, I am the newest newbie in this group, and even though one should be bold, I certainly don't feel like it right now, not since there are so many others in this group who surely are more experienced wikipedians than I am. To the point: Let's start somewhere - let's start discussing guidelines for when the mergist dogma should apply (or something like that; what is the mergist dogma?). For instance, and I just spit out some immediate thoughts:

The natural conflicts between:

  • Article sizes vs. Organization
  • Article sizes vs. Comprehensibility
  • Redirection vs. Deletion (how long to keep/redirect/delete)

and, with the help of our guideline

  • Making it easy for us to promote and execute our agenda through democratic means (e.g. voting)

This was only for starters. I hope to contribute further in the near future. Feel free to post me, but please use my talk page on wikipedia. My regards, Dennis Nilsson. Dna-Dennis 11:47, 25 November 2005 (UTC)

I am feeling bold and adding a section to the front page called "The pillars of Mergism". Hopefully this will result in further discussions. Regards, --Dna-Dennis talk - contribs 15:05, 29 November 2005 (UTC)

All Three

What if I'm all three? --24.94.190.187 01:56, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

Support for Mergism

Kokiri's analysis on the quality of the English Wikipedia seems to support your case... not all stubs have a potential to grow. But then again, we already knew this, didn't we? -- K9 16:03, 22 December 2005 (UTC)

Almost totally opposed to mergism

I feel that mergism must be countered at almost every opportunity. I feel that when you find two terms that appear to be alike the solution is not to merge the terms or replace one with another, the solution is to discover why two terms exist by conducting research! What merges demonstrate is what I would call 'wikipedia subject bias' where the definition of terms on wikipedia is biased toward the subject discipline of wikipedia users with a complete disregard for the academic community as a whole from whom these 'rejected terms' originate. These terms exist for a reason! They're used throughout academia, if one investigates why, one might discover a plethora of encyplopedic information.... 87.113.78.157 06:34, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Integration project

WikiProject Integration

I've started a project that embodies mergist philosophy: I didn't even realize you guys existed until someone suggested I tell you guys. Cwolfsheep 17:02, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

Mergist works

Is there a place for mergists to go to advise each other about works in progress that might need support? I currently have three that are up in the air right now, and though they are only userboxes on Wikipedia, it is mergist related. I would like to see what other mergists think and garner support for those works.

Is there a mergist barnstar?

If not, there should be. We sew articles together elaborately, like a highly skilled merge surgeon, or MERGEON, so I propose me call the Mergist barnstar the "Mergeon barnstar."  :-) NickDupree 03:48, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
