My name is Norman Hairston. I have chemical engineering and materials science degrees from MIT as well as an MBA from Stanford. I have worked for most of my career in the electronics industry. My technical background includes optics, storage and display technology. Much of the content on the LCD and LCD TV wiki pages is mine. I am also a frequent contributor to the newsletter for the LCDTV association and the Visus et Veritas publications such as "The Display Standard". display technology had been something of a backwater in electronics. However with the advent of cheap LCDs, increasingly the display is the device as is the case with an Ipad. This is being magnified by the convergence of computing and entertainment TV
One of the things that I always ask people is if they know the difference between a 19 and a 20" CRT TV. The answer is not what you think. With TVs being measured diagonally, a 19" has rounded corners while a 20" has squared corners. The difference between a 19 and a 20 is the extra 1/2 inch that you get by squaring off the corners. Current TV technology, the LCD, has its obfuscations as well. With regard to Stewardship on Wikipedia, I believe that the information that people need to make intelligent conclusions about what they buy should be available here. Electronic specs and statements about the specs are often purposefully misleading and some of those misrepresentations find their way into Wikipedia. If I am elected my job will be to ensure that the information presented here is plain, accurate and presented in a way that the common understanding of what is written is an accurate understanding.
