Romaine@nl.wikinews

Romaine has been re-elected as a administrator (Dutch: moderator) on Dutch Wikinews. Can you please grant him admin rights again for a new period? Generally a term of one year is granted. When one views his service as an administrator on so many projects, I think it is very fair to make an exception for him to grant him these rights for an indefinite term. This is actually what the project rules of Dutch Wikinews prescribe. However it hasn't been granted yet to anyone. There is no risk at all for Romaine (6 votes in favour with a total of six votes - and again re-elected). He is an acclaimed user and administrator yet for a long time and on many projects. Sincerely, Ymnes (talk) 16:09, 4 February 2019 (UTC)

Dk1919 Franking@scwikipedia

Dk1919 Franking has been an active user for years and also a temporary admin for 3 months in 2014. The only admin sc.wikipedia has right now has been searching for someone else to help him for years, and even if there are not a lot of active users interested in voting (we tried contacting a few) we managed to reach the quorum (2 votes). Please grant him permanent adminship.--L2212 (talk) 14:58, 23 January 2019 (UTC)

Two votes mean that the community is not large enough for permanent admins. I can grant temporal adminship for 1 year. Ruslik (talk) 20:33, 26 January 2019 (UTC)
Is it really not possible to have a permanent adminship? We had those for a while with other admins, the problem is that even if there are active users they don't often go to the community portal (the Tzilleri) and don't follow this kind of things. I could try to contact them one by one on their talk pages and do a new election, but I don't know if that would be ok. For now I only did it with two users I know, but one of them responded to me on the 24, right after the election was over. The other one was Dk1919 Franking, that after voting decided to also add his candidature as well. How many votes do we need to have for an election to be considered valid?--L2212 (talk) 23:09, 26 January 2019 (UTC)
You do not need new elections, you can extend voting in current one. Ruslik (talk) 21:00, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
Ok, I did it. I extended the voting period until 11 of February.--L2212 (talk) 12:12, 28 January 2019 (UTC)
Very well! I think it is a very good idea the extension of the deadline. Hopefully now we will be able to reach more users. I think that some of them responded too late and that now they are available to vote. One was Mattafaluga, I think. --Elcaracol (talk) 22:15, 28 January 2019 (UTC)

I start this project in the Wikimedia Incubator in September 2011, then I have temporary admin flag from June 2013 (when the new wiki was opened) to December 2013 and from February 2014 to August 2015. I'm already interface administrator on vec.wikipedia and I've already worked on CSS/JS when I had the admin flag on vec.wikt. If it's not possible to have a permanent interface adminship I request, at least, a temporary one, 'cause we have some work to do (like adapting en.wikt's translations style). PS: Is 2FA enabled compulsory? I don't have a smartphone...GatoSelvadego (talk) 13:16, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

You should request two-factor authentication tester permission at SRGP#Two-factor_authentication_testers_for_lifehome. Ruslik (talk) 20:39, 21 February 2019 (UTC)
@Ruslik0: Sorry for barging in, but I do not agree with your asking for 2FA if he is going to become an admin. Interface-admins are able to enable 2FA and do not require a separate right for the same. Leaderboard (talk) 18:24, 23 February 2019 (UTC)
@Leaderboard:WMF requires all new IAs appointed from Nov 18 onwards to have 2FA activated before they are allowed access. So the route will be to ask for oauth tester at SRGP and then activate the 2FA, subsequently when they have the flag they can relinquish the global tester group. Regards,--Cohaf (talk) 19:05, 23 February 2019 (UTC)
@Cohaf: I don't agree. One can, after all, simply not enable 2FA even with the oauth-tester right... The better solution is to ask the user to immediately enable 2FA after getting the right. Leaderboard (talk) 19:24, 23 February 2019 (UTC)
@Leaderboard:. That's why -revi commented quite early on that stewards have to have a better way to check this. Just a confirmation that the user has it is sufficient when there's no other ways of verification. Apparently this is what WMF is contended for right now.--Cohaf (talk) 19:29, 23 February 2019 (UTC)
You have to convince WMF security, not us. We simply don't have any choice here but to enforce the policy of the WMF.. — regards, Revi 14:29, 24 February 2019 (UTC)
I don't think this 'roundabout' procedure is required to satisfy the WMF rule. As I said before, asking the user to enable 2FA immediately after getting the right should do just as well. Leaderboard (talk) 20:06, 24 February 2019 (UTC)
Agreed, we should not be sending users in circles trying to meet the 2FA requirement. Once the user has intadmin access he can enable 2FA. Two other thoughts: since we cannot check if 2FA is enabled, it should be up to WMF security to audit 2FA use rather than us. We can tell people to enable 2FA, but we cannot enforce it without the ability to check. Also, if you are going to tell people to enable 2FA before granting the rights (with which I disagree), at least add them to the appropriate global group so they can. Sending them to make a second request on a different page when you could take 2 seconds to add the right to their account is very poor customer service, IMO. – Ajraddatz (talk) 21:19, 24 February 2019 (UTC)

@Defender: Please revert, this seems to be an illegitimate request[1]. The user had more than the required 5 admin actions on the first day of this month, as required by the policy. Thanks, --Vogone (talk) 21:53, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
@Vogone and Jasper Deng: The referred policy says "Inactivity is defined as less than five administrator/bureaucrat actions or property creations over this six month period.". The next phrase, "Admin accounts are checked for inactivity on the first day of each month.", although talks about checks, does not make it very clear that inactivity is only considered until the 1st day of the current month. As of today, d:User:Cyberpower678/ActiveStats lists Putnik as inactive. I have reversed the removal, but I think would be reasonable to propose that, in order to avoid future misunderstandings, the first phrase be changed to "Inactivity is defined as less than five administrator/bureaucrat actions or property creations over the six month period until the first day of the current month." (or a similar/better wording). Sorry for any inconvenience. Defender (talk) 22:31, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

Фильтр злоупотреблений@ruwikiversity

I am administrator at Russian Wikiversity.

This user v:ru:Участник:Фильтр злоупотреблений has no contribution at all to the project "Russian Wikiversity". But this user has administrator rights from December 2018, see list of sysops.

Why? Could you remove his administrator rights? --Andrew Krizhanovsky (talk) 12:20, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

@AKA MBG: Due to some old code in the AbuseFilter extension and recent maintenance being done on it, it resulted that AbuseFilter accounts got all sysop status (cfr. phab:T212268). According to a senior developer those can be removed so I'm just doing it. There's however nothing to worry about them given that those accounts cannot edit nor anybody can log in to them.
