As you have probably noticed, the 3 permanent administrators in Greek Wikiquotes (or "Βικιφθέγματα") are inactive (don't work for the project any more). For this reason, last March, I asked for temporary permission. The first 3-month permission (27.3 until 27.6.2009) was extended for an extra 5 month period, which expires tomorrow. Recently I put this problem under discussion in the Community Discussion Page of Βικιφθέγματα, asking for "votes". Until now 4 people have vote positively ("support"), most of them are administrators of the Greek Wikipedia. Among them is also "Θεόδωρος", one of the three inactive admins I mentioned before. So... could you, please, give me permanent permission? You have probably to know that, in fact, during these last 8 months, I'm the only one who take care of the Greek Wikiquotes, adding plenty of new articles and cheching if everything goes right in the project... --Seagull.Stefanos 08:51, 24 November 2009 (UTC)

Sounds okay for me to give permanent access. Removed from Steward requests/Permissions/Approved temporary. Kind regards, —DerHexer (Talk) 13:38, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

I strongly suggest checkusering these users. Prodego talk 07:00, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
The page history strongly suggests that all users supporting Ujjwol's adminship at the above-linked page are in fact the same user. CheckUser data appears to confirm that this is what is going on. This request is therefore not done, unless some further explanation can be given. — Dan | talk 07:24, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
Let's keep in mind that Internet access in Nepal is not the same as it is in developed countries, and that these people all work together and probably use the same computer. It's hardly as nefarious as it's being made out to be. I have worked with Ujjwol on Wiktionary and I can vouch for his "character" if need be. He's no Grawp if that's what you all are thinking. Mike Halterman 07:30, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
Fair point, I've switched the request status back to "in progress." I would like to hear from Ujjwol, though, before we go ahead with the request. — Dan | talk 07:34, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

Okay, it seems the supporters were friends recruited by this user to vote for him. Unfortunately this does not amount to a community, but I see no problem with three months' temporary adminship.   Done, to expire on 11 March 2010. Ujjwol, best of luck with the project, and I hope you can convince your friends to become active contributors. Mike, thanks for the lesson in being cautious. — Dan | talk 07:47, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

I speak the language and wanna help current administrator Kaare to re-edit/delete MediaWiki local message translations cause here uses And also removing vandalism. --Qaqqalik 20:29, 7 December 2009 (UTC)

Seems like there is no opposition, but it would really be helpful if we could get a translation of that conversation... --FiliP ██ 22:37, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
Summarized: The request is supported by the current administrator Kaare (who doesn't understand kl), and Qaqqalik understands kl.
Currently, the request is supported by three users, which isn't enough to give permanent sysopship, but if you like, we can give you three months temp. sysop (same thing, only we remove the rights after three months if you do not come back here and say you wish for three more months). Is this okey for you? Laaknor 20:01, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Hello, I'm Ikatz. I am the most active user of the Basque wiktionary and I want to be administrator. Now there are two administrators, but one of them never accesses to wiktionary and the second adminstrator accesses a little bit. Sometimes when there is vandalism, often spend days or even weeks before they are deleted and punished. Moreover, in the Basque wiktionary there are many things to do but some of them I can not do because I am not an administrator. I have not presented at the cafe to be adminstrator because there are only the second manager mentioned above and me. Besides the second administrator is who recommended me introduce myself just to administrator and I thought it wouldn't be necessary to vote in the cafe because it has already offered their support. Forgive me for my bad English. Thanks. --EH-Ikatz answer here 22:59, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Please do go to your local discussion area and mention that you'd like to help out. If there are no objections after a few days we can make you a temporary admin but we do like to see you ask for community input. After you do, come back and link to the discussion. As per a similar situation involving the user Bengoa on the same project, I'm applying parity and emulating Birdy's decision on that case, from July 25, 2009: adminship is granted for six months, expiring June 15, 2010, with the possibility of conversion to permanent adminship provided a minimum community input can be secured by then. Good luck. Redux 13:15, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Hello kylu and Leinad, on the discussion mailing list is only for project rights, the chapter leadership is not defined yet. Local policy requires that a notice be posted for 30 days warning that a sysop will have their flag removed if inactive for a year, as well as the user being notified via email or on their talk page. This user has been inactive for a year and the user has not protested the removal of the tools during the 30 day window in which responses can be heard. Local policy does not require consensus to be reached for desysopping due to inactivity. It is therefore requested that the administrator flag be removed for this user. -- Adrignola 19:19, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

Traditionally, there have been three ways to remove an admin's +sysop bit on the English Wikipedia: (1) self-request; (2) request by the Arbitration Committee or Jimmy Wales; or (3) in an emergency. None of these three criteria have been met. I agree with Kylu's {{not done}}. --MZMcBride 18:34, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
No disrespect intended, but I agree with Kylu as well. MZM sums up the ways to get a steward to do this, and none of them have been satisfied. Make a motion to ArbCom if you wish. This is archivable until that happens. ++Lar: t/c 19:48, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

The English Wikipedia Arbitration Committee are well aware of the situation and are free to request desysopping should they wish to. There's by no means a clear consensus on the incidents noticeboard for an emergency desysop. Ryan Postlethwaite 16:02, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
Not done. English Wikipedia has an ArbCom that has the power to request desysop if they wish it. Stewards will not override the local community elected officials. Laaknor 16:53, 17 December 2009 (UTC)
To clarify: If it's an emergency, stewards can, and will, desysop someone. Usually an emergency is urgent enough that the request happens on IRC, not here. But the decision to desysop is not taken lightly, especially when there is an ArbCom that can ask if it feels the need, and it has to be an actual emergency. Any situation that has discussion of this length is by definition not an emergency. ++Lar: t/c 18:51, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

Temporary permissions (rejected and expired requests only)

I'd like to request temporary sysop on ug wiki to clean out the deletion category (at ug:Category:Candidates_for_speedy_deletion) which is currently at 67 pages. I have made a post stating my intention to do this on wiki (see above link) I have no problem if you'd like to wait to see if there is an objection. I shouldn't need sysop for more then 10-15 minutes. Jamesofur 23:05, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

On behalf of this user, I'm asking for temporary adminship for him. This user is currently and for some time the sole active user on this wiki, and he acts responsibly. Current sysop is inactive for some months, and made just 3 edits in the last year. Rubbish is building up and there's no one to delete unwanted pages. I asked his permission to propose his name for temp adminship (see discussion link). Thanks, Malafaya 09:47, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

Hello Malafaya, I don't see a problem here, only please also make a local announcement (Village pump, Mainpage talkpage, or similar), so possible readers or other users could object, thanks. Fulup is not really active but he just deleted something 3 days ago, I prefer to see the local announcement to not hear things like "we did not know about this and were overruled by evil meta" etc. thanks for Your understanding, after this is open for some days I don't see any problem granting him adminship for 3 months and he can prolong it unbureaucratic then. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 12:25, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
Hi again, Spacebirdy. You're right and I'm sorry. I should have done that before asking here.
I posted an announcement in their Village Pump. Check second link above, in the "Discussion" item. Thanks again, Malafaya 13:57, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
Done, expires: 03-12-2009 please remember to translate the interface at betawiki: only and to upload images preferably to commons:, please come back a few days before the status expires to prolong it or hold a local voting if the community grows, thanks, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 17:57, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Stephen G. Brown and Seb az86556 @nvwiki

I wish to request adminship for nv:Choinish'įįhí:Seb az86556 on the Navajo Wikipedia. We have been working hard to get the Navajo Wikipedia up and running and have made a lot of headway. However, at least one of us needs to have admin powers there. Stephen G. Brown 09:59, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Would appreciate the support. Only two admins listed, none of whom are active. I do have an account on transwiki, but the implementation of local messages cannot be changed w/o adminship Seb az86556 10:59, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
I don't see any problem here in granting You both tempadminship for three months (can be prolonged easily afterwards or made permanent if there is a local voting). Please make a local announcement that You want adminship there to allow local users to comment that (and link it here). Thanks, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 14:35, 7 September 2009 (UTC)

Well, since nobody replied in a week, I'm afraid we can't grant you permanent sysopship. But, since nobody objected either, I don't see any problem with temporary rights -   Done for a month, to expire 15 October 2009. — Dan | talk 15:52, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
I am a permanent administrator on that site, and I would support him having permanent adminship also. Incidentally, if you do decide to grant him permanent adminship, you can remove mine too. I forgot I was an admin there. :-) --Deskana 02:53, 16 September 2009 (UTC)

I've just noticed that Spacebirdy promised three months' temp adminship rather than one. So I'll go ahead and change the expiry date to 15 December 2009 for both of these users, and I'll remove Deskana's flag. Stephen and Seb, when your three months are up, feel free to come back here and request another three months, or if there are more users regularly editing by that time you can put another notice on the village pump and we can see about permanent adminship. (Section copied to /Approved temporary.) — Dan | talk 04:42, 17 September 2009 (UTC)

Again I request (temporary) sysop access at li.wikisource to move and delete some categories. There is no local community. --OosWesThoesBes 08:26, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

I'll give you another three months (expiration: 23 December 2009), but perhaps in that time you could look into setting up a request for permanent rights? There seem to be a number of somewhat active users available to weigh in. — Dan | talk 19:39, 23 September 2009 (UTC)
