Dtrebbien@eo wiktionary

I request sysop access for the following reasons:

  1. The bureaucrat for the project, ArnoLagrange, appears to be inactive; he has made only 4 contributions this year and the last was on June 22.
  2. The only two administrators, Mencheperre and לערי ריינהארט, were last seen in 2006 and 2007, respectively.
  3. The project has an RfA-type faculty at wiktionary:eo:Vikivortaro diskuto:Administrantoj, but the timestamps of the last comments were made on 2006.
  4. I have been a trusted user of English Wikipedia since December 2006.
  5. There are pages on Esperanto Wiktionary that need administrator attention.

Thank you. « D. Trebbien (talk) 19:34, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[]

Not done, sorry but without local request/voting there will be no status granted, also did You try to contact ArnoLagrange in, he says on his userpage that he is also there. Thanks, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 20:06, 31 August 2008 (UTC)[]

Bureaucrat access

The following discussion is closed.

I request bureaucrat access for user Bistromatic.

There is no local request link because I was blocked from editing by the only active admin zea:User:Troefkaart to prevent such a request. Because of the actions of this admin, the project is currently dead.

For more information, see Metapub#Moderator_abuse_on_zea:Wikipedia.

Thank you. Guido den Broeder 14:03, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[]

There's no need for stewards at :zea at this moment since stewards of :nl understand the language (It's a dialect of Dutch). If Bistromatic wants to be an opzichter (= sysop) on :zea he or she should make a request at the appropriate place: zea-wiki. ♠ Troefkaart 14:12, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[]
This request is for bureaucrat, not sysop. We already had wheelwars, thanks. Guido den Broeder 14:16, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[]
My bad, it's not a request for a steward. Anyway, if Bistromatic wants to be a amtenaer (= bureaucrat) he or she should make a request at the appropriate place him- or herself: zea-wiki. ♠ Troefkaart 14:45, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[]
A few remarks regarding the request and comment by Guido:
  1. The project is not dead, several weeks ago it was not special if the 'recent changes' would have gaps of several days. More recently the project looks more active then before. Guido created a user account only a few days ago so probably he doesn't know how active the community was. Drawing the conclusion the project is dead because of the action of this admin is not correct.
  2. This request by Guido to promote user Bistromatic to become a bureaucrat seems strange to me. You cannot make somebody else a bureaucrat if the person involved doesn't indicate he/she wants to become a bureaucrat.
  3. Bistromatic is not blocked on the zea-wiki; the fact that Guido is blocked there doesn't stop Bistromatic from asking the community anything.
  4. If Bistromatic wants to become an admin or even a bureaucrat he can announce that on the zea-wiki and let the community decide.
  5. Bistromatic is currently not even an admin ('beheerder' as they are locally called) on the zea-wiki
  6. There is already a bureaucrat [1] on the zea-wiki so there is no need for a steward to take any action. Only if the community decides to make somebody an admin/bureaucrat and that person doesn't do anything the request can be put here.
Therefor I think this request should be turned down. - Robotje 14:52, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[]
Not done, zeawiki community is enough active. If Bistromatic is really interested, he could post his request locally. Thanks--Nick1915 - all you want 15:57, 5 September 2008 (UTC)[]

As I told before, there are at least 2 checkusers here (Adrian and Wizzard). What do you mean by "the voting has failed"? --Wizzard 05:11, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[]

The vote gained a 70% approval, but failed to meet the minimum 25 approving votes as spelled out in the checkuser policy. Kylu 05:17, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[]
As per policy, a wiki can have 2 Checkusers "at one time" or None, and since right now there is no CU on that wiki, we cannot give rights to one user only since its against policy..and Adrian has passed his RFCU but he cannot get the right because only when there are two "qualified" candidates, can a steward grant the CU access and it seems you have failed your RFCU, so at this time, i will agree with spacebirdy..a user must get 80% support and 25+ votes in support to pass and your CU request is 70.4% which is a fail...--Cometstyles 05:22, 12 September 2008 (UTC)[]
Hello Wizzard, yes I read the part about Adrian, but You have to be appointed at the same time, there will be no single cu on a project. @voting: In the link I gave this is the relevant section: "[...]After gaining consensus (at least 70%-80%) in his local community, and with at least 25-30 editors' approval[...]", which is why I said it failed, the support You gained is not enough. You can either reopen the voting and let it open until there is enough support or make a new voting, thanks, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 07:57, 13 September 2008 (UTC)[]

I have tried to get the wiki in this language going for 4 years unsuccessfully. Then I have started a discussion about its closure because I really do not believe it is going to work as long as the native speakers expect to be payed for any and all contribution. Some people supported my conclusion but there is a lot of people that simply do not want to see the truth, but cannot contribute either because they don't speak the language.

I am tired of going there and seeing if there is a mess to clean up. I am also tired of the stalemate and the implicit accusations at my person. Please undo my sysop status

Removal rights of Cato@en.wikiquote

Due to circumstances that Jimmy Wales and Cary and at least one other enquote checkuser are aware of, and events in the last couple of hours, please de-checkuser Cato on English Wikiquote.

I emphasize that this is a temporary action only to protect that project until its own users are in possession of the relevant information to decide what they wish, and in no way intended to impinge upon the sovreignty of that project. Unfortunately I cannot find anyone else better able to make that decision in light of events that are rapidly unfolding.

I will post a fuller explanation of this to Cary and Aphaia immediately, and to the wikiquote community hopefully tomorrow.

FT2 (Talk | email) 03:14, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[]

Removed until this can be reviewed by Cary and the Wikiquote community, given the serious issues posed by checkuser abuse. —{admin} Pathoschild 03:18:03, 06 September 2008 (UTC)
Notified: I carefully reviewed FT2's mail and agree on that this temporal removal may be beneficial to the project in entire in regard of concerns raised on the mail, while I personally trust on Cato as CU and think he hasn't abused his power until now. This temporal removal may ensure no abuse has been done by him, since none can abuse the power he doesn't possess.
I think English Wikiquote community will welcome further information from FT2 and I hope we make a wise decision on this issue with the information FT2 will give us later. --Aphaia 07:24, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[]

Not sure if the Wikiquote community's discussion will take place there though or if that is just a general community notice about Requests for comments/Poetlister and Cato. Cirt (talk) 05:00, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[]

Removal of checkuser from Wikimol@cs.wikipedia

He has only 17 edits in last year (only two in mainspace) and is not active at cs.wikipedia in any way. Now, he is checkuser only because Czech Wikipedians are not able to elect anybody else. See cs:Wikipedie:CheckUser/Hlasování/2008), where they unsuccessfully voted new checkuser because of Wikimol is not active. Existence of paper checkusers like this one is strongly against of idea of checkuser rights at local projects. --Minalova 23:07, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[]

  • Per Checkuser#Access_to_CheckUser: On any wiki, there must be at least two users with CheckUser status, or none at all. Therefore it seems the CU access should be removed, per policy. Cirt (talk) 23:49, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[]
  • I know the mentioned rules, but: cs:User:Wikimol (the 2nd CU) has edited in last three months several times, every time concerning check user; in his last edit from Sept. 3rd 2008 [13] he mentioned, he is still following the matter and he will do (checking the logs, reading the page with requests etc.), stating to do it in the future as well (I can provide the translation of the whole); by the way, if I search for sul:Minalova so I get nearly nothing. Two voters supported, 24 total users including global stewards, meta and commons admins, and commons delinker. May I suggest requesting temporary adminship instead? There's really no local community as of yet. ~Kylu (u|t) 03:48, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[]
I don't see a point in the temporary adminship, if I have to be the one coming back every couple of weeks or so and requesting extensions. The adminships are not only to lead the community, but for technical reasons as well (the main reason I nominated this user for adminship, since a recent update broke the way things are done, and I, the only admin, was busy at the time to fix it). At this point the community has decided that there is a need for this adminship (however small, there certainly IS a local community), and as far as I know the stewards are there to implement local community decisions (anyone is welcome to scrutinize the local policies and procedures). Thanks for the suggestion though. ― Teak 15:33, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[]
Temporary adminships can be for far longer than a couple of weeks, depending on the situation. 3 months is not at all uncommon. Thats a fair bit of time to get a lot of work done, and perhaps, build a community to support a permanent adminship. I highly recommend you ask for a temp adminship for say, 3 months. ++Lar: t/c 19:53, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[]
Hello Teak, thanks for Your work at hy.wikisource, please let me clarify a missunderstanding: You said: "The adminships are not only to lead the community, but for technical reasons as well" - sorry but the adminship is not to lead anyone, it is technical only, any admin is just a normal user with the same rights and voice but has additionally to fulfill the communities requests for deletion, maintaining, etc. this is not a status of leadership at all but like the status of a janitor. Thanks for Your understanding.
I agree with Lars suggestion for 3 months, I think we can do this in this request (so You don't have to open a new one) if You agree, thanks, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 20:40, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[]
To amplify on what 'birdy's saying... an adminship is not given to "lead" a community by telling them what to do. But an admin, even a temporary one, can cause a community to come into existance where one was not present before. If there is leadership to be done it is leading by example... showing others who maybe stopped by briefly and did one or two edits, that there is a cadre of interested and active workers (even if it's a cadre of just one person at first) and thus encouraging them to get involved... and once they are, showing them the wiki way of cooperation, open-ness, consensus and creation of neat stuff to draw them in and make them feel welcome. that's leadership all right, but it's not the boss people around kind, it's far harder than that. ++Lar: t/c 20:51, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[]
I have no idea why we are talking about this here, but there was no misunderstanding to begin with, though it did seem to develop in the last two comments. The verb "lead" in my first reply was meant in the sense of "showing leadership" (by example, by actively engaging in the development of policies and procedures, helping newcomers, soliciting community opinions on controversies and so on), and not in the sense of "ruling" (I strongly disagree with birdy's definition of a sysop=solely_"janitor", and don't think anyone who doesn't have an established leadership presence in the community should be granted adminship, but that's beside the point here). Kylu suggested that the small size of the local community implies lack of necessity of an admin (no community, hence no need of leadership in the sense stated above). In response to this comment I explained the reason why I nominated this user, and why I'm against temp adminship. Lar says that the temp adminship may be requested for longer periods, though my experience has been that temp adminships are given for particular tasks. When the project was created, I asked for a temp adminship for one month for import from test project + "general sysop chores", and was given sysop rights for only two weeks. Then had to come back and ask again for temp adminship for "general sysop chores", which expired in another month. I know that some temp adminships are for periods of half a year or more, but they are generally for first projects in a language, for which there is a huge amount of sysop work even with no local community. This is not the case with hy.wikisource, which is quite an active project, even with a small community (wikisource doesn't require a large community to thrive). In hy.wikisource we have a very cooperative (although small) community, and there is a need for a sysop who can fix things fairly quickly when they are broken, without having to go through the whole meta-monster and the bureaucracy of requesting a temp adminship. And the community has measured the pros and cons and voted on it. So please implement the community decision by granting the sysop status to the user. ― Teak 08:23, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[]
Kylu's statement is that there isn't a big enough community on that wiki, yet, to support a permanent sysop. I'll be blunt, if I may: Requesting permanent sysop-hood isn't going to happen at this time. Put in a request under temporary, ask for three months, and let them grant it so everyone (including yourself) can go back to what we do best. ~Kylu (u|t) 23:46, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[]
I agree with Kylu. I'd grant you a 3 month temp if you ask for it, it seems reasonable not to make you come back every so often, but at this time a permanent doesn't seem warranted. I do hope you understand++Lar: t/c 03:38, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[]

Kylu, don't let me keep you from going back to what you do best... Lar, who decides whether at this time it "seems warranted" or no?! I went over steward policies several times, and it doesn't look like such a decision belongs with the stewards. If there is a specific policy I'm not aware of, which specifically says that there must be a community of specific size to "support" a specific number of permanent sysops, please let me know. And in case there is such a policy, let's apply it universally to all projects. Otherwise, I've explained my position on the necessity of the admin, and have communicated the community decision. It's now up to the stewards to implement this decision by granting the status, or deny it on specific grounds. If you think that the status should be granted temporarily, please do so with your reasons for converting a community decision on permanent sysop into a temporary status (and I hope you do so by starting a new policy, and not on an ad-hoc basis). ― Teak 06:19, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[]

I'll raise this with the other stewards so I'm not acting unilaterally but time and time again, when the community is very small, when the votes are very few, I've seen other stewards decline to give permanent sysopship, and instead offer a long duration temporary. As of right now, I recuse myself from this matter. Another steward will have to grant or not grant you permanent sysophood, and if they decline to do so, and you eventually take the advice given and ask for a long duration temp, another steward will have to grant it... Do please note that I'm not all by myself here, Spacebirdy, also a steward, has agreed with me and endorsed giving you 3 months temp if you ask for it. ++Lar: t/c 07:38, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[]

Permanent sysop access is not granted. The community is too small to have permanent sysops. (I know that in former times, stewards granted permanent sysopship/bureaucratship even in such small projects, but since this caused problems on some projects, we will not do that any more.) You can easily get a temp sysopship for (not more than) 6 months and then we will see if there will have grown a big enough community to change the status to permanent. If this is not the case, we will easily extend the temp sysopship for another (maximally) 6 months on request, and so on. If you agree to get temp sysopship, please state for how long you want and we will grant it. Thank you for understanding. @Teak, please note that granting you sysopship on that project was a mistake by me and should also have been done temporarily only. --Thogo (talk) 13:20, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[]

Thogo, please do convert my permanent sysop on hy.wikisource to a temporary one (with a period of whatever is a common practice), if you think you've made a mistake. As to this request, I don't deem myself having the right to change the community decision (even if it involves only 2 other users). I'll let the nominated user know about this discussion, and he will hopefully make his own decision about his rights. ― Teak 16:19, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[]
Changed link--Nick1915 - all you want 16:42, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[]
Thank you both. Btw., technically it's no difference between temporary and permanent rights since expiring dates can be extended easily, it's just that we have a possibility to check after a while if everything is alright in the project and to react if not. (The community can do that itself only if it is large enough.) --Thogo (talk) 16:47, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[]

Concerning both these requests, you simply voted for each other. Ok, temporary adminship would be useful for housekeeping purposes. Our only administrator (la:b:User:The Doc) has been inactive on the project for several months now, so it would be useful to have active admins available at the project. Alex1011 is by far the most active contributor; I regularly check recentchanges and I am admin on la.wikipedia since 2006. Please grant the two of us temporary adminship. Thanks! --UV 22:19, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[]

User:Daniel @ Meta

Note: Daniel is an elected admin now.VasilievV 2 04:56, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[]

The 2008 Board Election Committee has agreed, based on experiences from 2007, that all non-Meta administrators would benefit significantly from having temporary administrator access until the end of the election. To quote Phillipe, who was on the Committee last year and again this year, "Last year during the election, there were times when we needed to protect (or edit protected pages) on meta. Since I wasn't an admin, I often needed to wait for someone else to come along...I should have had them. It would have made life easier". The scope of this temporary adminship, should it be granted, would be actions related to the position of Election Committee member, with no other administrator actions taken outside this scope (obviously).

I contacted Anthere, who initially announced the Committee members on behalf of the Board of Trustees in the Election Committee resolution, and the reply I got was "Yeah, makes sense. You should ask here: [RfP link]. I expect that adminship will be granted without any problems :-)". So, well, I'm posting here :) Cheers, Daniel 23:44, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[]

better here: this is not a stewards' issue, please ask to a local 'crat. Thanks--Nick1915 - all you want 23:51, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[]
Good point, I'm a local 'crat and I'll figure out where this needs to get moved to, and move it, I'm promoting based on being a local 'crat, not on being a steward. ++Lar: t/c 23:54, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[]
Done temporary grant, till after election, which is scheduled to end June 14 2008. Note, I will do all the other non admins, and list them here too, all temporary till after election. ++Lar: t/c 23:53, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[]
User:Mark and User:KTC. Sorry about creating headaches with the process concerns :) Daniel 00:08, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[]
No worries. I documented matters here: Meta:Requests_for_adminship#Temporary_Adminships_for_the_rest_of_the_2008_WMF_Board_Election_committee ++Lar: t/c 00:15, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[]
Just a note. Philippe was granted for 3 months, so I assume these are as well (or until they no longer need them). Majorly (talk) 00:42, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[]
Wasn't Philippe 6 months? This suggests so. Ours are, apparently. Daniel 00:50, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[]
Hmm... I too thought it was till Sept 16 2008, if I was reading what M7 said at Meta:Requests_for_adminship#Philippe . Which is way past the election actually. I agree they ought to all be the same, and I agree with Majorly, because 3 months actually makes more sense to me, given the election end date. ++Lar: t/c 00:52, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[]
Basically, they should be removed as soon as the election ends, whenever it may be. M7 said that he expected Philippe to ask for removal. Majorly (talk) 00:59, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[]
Naturally, but the election ends at an unspecified date when the results are announced. it will be just over three months, therefore. Daniel 01:05, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[]
It's quite frequent that the election results, counts, Q&A's, translations and so on will carry on for a while. Since all the involved users are well known and capable of duly taking care of their own sysop status, I opted for a quite long duration. --M/ 14:14, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[]

"I confirm that I believe giving the Election Committee members temporary +sysop is a good idea, as I said in an email to Daniel. Thanks for giving them access. Anthere 06:43, 17 March 2008 (UTC)" (sigh)[]

Theklan@eu wikibooks and Janfri@eu wikibooks

I request temporary sysop access.

  • Language Code: eu
  • List of local sysops: None (eu:wikibooks:Aparteko:ListUsers&group=sysop)
  • List of local bureaucrats: None ((eu:wikibooks:Aparteko:ListUsers&group=bureaucrat)
  • Local Request Link: None[29])
  • Local User Page: b:eu:Lankide:Theklan & b:eu:Lankide:Janfri
  • Preferred duration and reason: There's no local sysop or bureaucrats and some articles must be deleted and main page blocked for preventing vandalism. Both Janfri and Theklan are sysops in eu:wikipedia so we only want to extend this permission as both are now working on expanding this project. We don't have a preferred duration, as there's not a stable community to make elections. When this elections happen we would happily let this other users in their work.

Thank you. Theklan 18:49, 23 June 2008 (UTC)[]

Hello, please can You make a local link nevertheless, I would like to see a local link always also for temp issues, in case someone would like to object. Also Janfri should know about he is going to be made temp-sysop, but I was not able to find any page where he said that or where someone told him. Please just open a local request where You two leave a short note and I would say lets start with a temp-period of 3 months then. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 00:12, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[]
We spoke about it by mail, but now I have opened a discussion with him to make it public ([30]). -Theklan 10:50, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[]
I have nothing to object and I agree with everything Theklan has written. In addition, I have to say that I was notified in advance by mail as Theklan has stated.--Janfri 11:03, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[]
Done, both for 3 months, expires 24-09-2008, please make sure to translate the interface at betawiki: only and to upload images preferably at commons:. Come back shortly before the permission expires or feel free to hold a local voting if the community grows. Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 14:01, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[]

Numulunj pilgae@mdf Moksha Wikipedia

I request temporary sysop access.

Thank you. --Numulunj pilgae 15:41, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[]

The link you provided for local request seems to refer to Kranch. And seeing as (probably) no one here understands Moksha, little help with that page would be nice :) --FiliP × 20:02, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[]
His name is above the voting of Kranch it seems, one person commented, I had suggested a temporary adminship therefore, see in the regular adminship section, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 22:43, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[]
Yes, I saw that. But if those 5 votes don't refer to this user, there's no reason to give him even temporary status. If these votes do in fact refer to Numulunj pilgae, then fine, he'll get the temp status. But the page is still confusing :) --FiliP × 12:50, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[]
Sorry for the confusion on the page. User Kranch was added by another user after all voted for Sura and me. I'd like to edit that but not sure I may edit the election page after elections finished that is why all left as it is. So, may we apply for admin access for Sura and me? Or temporary access? Thank you --Numulunj pilgae 15:25, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[]
Done OK, I saw the page history and the voting does indeed refer to you. I've given you temporary status for three months, that is until September 25, 2008. --FiliP × 15:29, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[]
As for Sura and Kranch... Well, Sura and you had a joined election, while Kranch was added later on. I strongly suggest using separate voting procedures for separate candidates. Since this meta request only referred to you, I didn't promote Sura. --FiliP × 15:32, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[]
Thank you! Need a piece of advice then. May I edit election page now to avoid future confusions? Or better just to place there explanation and comments?--Numulunj pilgae 08:36, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[]
That is up to you, but I think you should explain what happened here and that in the future, you'll have to hold separate elections. --FiliP × 09:29, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[]

Thanks for the clarification Srhat. ::Please can You open a local request too, because at least one other sysop is active there. Also I suggest You to write Dbl2010 an email afterwards, he is not active but easily reached via email normally. Please let us know if he does not respond, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 12:20, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[]
On hold. Thanks Serhat. Dbl2010 seems to be inactive on trbooks, he did not respond to an email of Serhat according to him, since the other sysop is in favor of this, and the interface changes are not meant to be translations (but specifications for wikibooks) I suggest to wait a few days (to give possible other users the chance to express their opinion too) and then grant temp-sysop status, thanks, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 20:37, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[]
