Thanks --Giangian15 12:27, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Only 1 support vote, sorry, but that is not enough to gain permanent adminship, he might be able to ask for a temporary status. If he wants that he should do so in the section below. thanks,--Nick1915 - all you want 12:35, 29 July 2008 (UTC)- please ask to a local 'crat: two of them are active--Nick1915 - all you want 12:39, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- you think that if they were active, i would have submitted a request here? i tried contacting them before i came here but to no avail. Anyway that RFA was there for a whole week. It's not our fault that it collected just one vote, no? so what we're we gonna do?--Giangian15 12:45, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- this one is active, have you tried to send an email to him? if he doesn't answer, please consider to ask a temporary sysopship below--Nick1915 - all you want 12:53, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- Of course i tried, Joe is not so active, he comes online only when he's at work, and does only one or 2 actions and never replies to anything. Besides that admin/bureucrat access was granted to him without the consensus of the community from SRL (and you're making a fuss because chris got only 1 support vote). SRL the other bureacrat/admin, doesn't know how to spk in proper maltese and he wasn't granted access from the community but from the stewards here. That's why he's inactive and never contributes anything.
- please ask to a local 'crat: two of them are active--Nick1915 - all you want 12:39, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Now the only thing i'm asking you, to grant chris the tools cause he's very active and did over 7000 edits. Me and chris are the only two "active" users atm. Thanks --Giangian15 13:08, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- I am sorry, but I agree with Nick, one vote is no enough for a fair voting. Please apply for temp adminship, it is technically the same, so don't worry. We can do it right here in this request, we can offer him 3 months to start, he can leave a short message a few days before expiration here, to prolong it easily or if the community grows make a voting. Thanks for Your understanding, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| ∇ 13:16, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

no, he wasn't .. he was notified the day before yesterday. that's because you can't read maltese ;) --Giangian15 13:25, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- 2 days or one day are to short time for giving him the chance to respond. --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| ∇ 13:31, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

- They had been elected, we don't care if they are not active afterwards, thanks, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| ∇ 11:40, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
- Just to clarify that, activity level and the resulting policy implications, if any, is a local wiki matter, not a steward matter... if a wiki enacts an activity policy that requires more or less automatic removal based on activity levels for various actions, then of course we would care (because we'd go check before turning the bit off...). :) ++Lar: t/c 15:32, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

- Well, you can get temporary sysop rights for 3 months. This voting is just nonsense, since all people who voted there have 0 edits except for the voting page and their user pages and were only registered to vote. Since you are one of two active people on this wiki, you should maybe have sysop rights (as well as Ringer), but permanent rights are not necessary in such a small community of two people. --Thogo (talk) 17:26, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

- I've requested a six month temp adminship for you below. Generally, until there's enough of a community that you can get ten regular contributors to vote in favor of you, it's considered too small for a permanent adminship. Visiting every three months or so isn't too bad, and it gives you an excuse to keep up on inter-project issues that may have bearing on your project. Kylu 03:15, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

It's opt-in, but quite handy for letting smaller communities focus on important things such as article-building. I hope that helps out! :) Kylu 19:46, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Request For CheckUser Status In Azerbaijani Wikipedia
Following users have gained the on-wiki approval of our local community in az Wikipedia:
Please grant them local checkuser status in Azerbaijani WIkipedia.--Mehrdad 17:19, 8 July 2008 (UTC)
- I'm afraid that's not enough votes. You need to have at least 30 votes. --FiliP × 05:16, 9 July 2008 (UTC)
- Altough it might seem logical, I could see no such requirement here. Neither it existed when the vote was started. There is a genuine need for local checkusers to prevent periodic disruptions to the Azerbaijani wikipedia's work and going to meta each time is not effective. Therefore, the community has decided to elect local checkusers. Thank you. --TimBits 07:11, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

- Thanks for the link. When I looked for the info at that page, I was surprised I couldn't find it because I swear I saw it a while ago. - The change was the result of a long discussion on the checkuser-L mailing list. The problem, essentially, is that there is no single system, and no simple way to describe the current systems. For example, enwiki has an Arbcom, which appoints checkusers. dewiki has an arbcom, but checkusers are elected. eswiki (if I recall correctly) has one CU elected by the community before the creation of their arbcom and one CU appointed by the arbcom, with no clear decision (and some controversy) about whether future CUs will be elected or appointed. There was also concern on the list about the recent attempts to establish an arbcom in order to appoint some people as CUs who had failed to be elected (I think it was en wikiquote but I would have to look it up to make sure). I think the requirement of having a minimum number of votes and 75-80% consensus is a good idea, especially if it has been established as a precedent. But that language was being used by some people on enwiki to justify creating an election mechanism that would be independent of Arbcom. There was also some confusion about whether this policy describes the appointment of checkusers for meta-wiki or for all wikis. So that's the problem. Perhaps the confusion could be addressed by saying, "If a wiki currently has a mechanism to appoint or elect checkusers, future checkusers must be selected using the same mechanism. If a wiki does not have checkusers, the 30 vote/80% consensus rule applies." I confess I have not given this much thought recently but does that seem reasonable? For what its worth, during these discussions, the Foundation was silent and did not offer firm direction, or indeed any direction. Thatcher 17:26, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
- Well, changes of the CU policy are not duty of people on mailing lists, but have to be first approved by the global community (which wasn't asked so far) and second approved by the foundation. So this change is not valid. --Thogo (talk) 17:45, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
- This was discussed on the list and I posted my changes there, and you are all on the list, so you've had at least 3 months to object. Do as you like. I've lost most of my interest in wiki-governance anyway. Thatcher 17:54, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

- I agree that 7 votes is unreasonable. But it was also unreasonable for the text of the prior version ("On a wiki with no Arbitration Committee or where the community prefers independent elections) to try and bypass enwiki's arbcom, and Jdforrester's version about "approved arbcoms" does not reflect the situation with eswiki or dewiki. I posted my suggestion to the policy talk page, suggest further discussion there. Thatcher 18:05, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

- Additionally it would be good, if it is changed (and these changes seem to be a proposal which have to be approved still by the foundation), that there is some clause so votings with 7:1 like [8] can not happen, that is simply ridiculous for a cu, who has access to sensitive private data, sorry, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| ∇ 17:48, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Private list is not the place for talking about the policy. I reverted edits and talk may start at the talk page. --Millosh 18:59, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
- In all fairness, we in the Azerbaijani wikipedia have hold the voting, being under the impression that the latest version of the policy was official and the results are valid according to that version. I don't see anything ridiculous in that. It is inconsequential whether the person making those changes had different things in his/her mind or has erred in making the said changes. I don't see how we can be blamed for that. Therefore I'd like someone to clarify it to us- what is the current official, valid policy, so that we can hold a new vote if necessary and make our request accordingly? Thank you.--TimBits 20:06, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
- You have our apologies for the mixup, but at the moment the current version of the checkuser policy is at Checkuser policy#Access to CheckUser. It states 25-30 users minimum and 70-80% approval, as determined by the local community. Thanks for your understanding. Kylu 22:05, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
- That 25-30 members mark is quite important, given the sensitive nature of the access. I'm unsure why it was removed; but it certainly needs to remain in place. That goes for any arbcom elections as well (25-30 in support for each arbcom member) before we should permit a project arbcom the ability to appoint its own checkusers. This demonstrates that the community is mature enough to abide by the foundation's policies. It also demonstrates that the community is big enough where asking the stewards to step when a checkuser is needed can become a drain on the stewards' time. Cary Bass demandez 20:01, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you, if that is the case, then we need to hold the election again. Getting 25 votes shouldn't be a problem, all one needs to do is to advertise it better and and set the duration for a long time, unlike the last time, when we were seeking to get checkusers appointed as soon as possible, thereby had set the minimum time limit. In any case we need checkusers in our wikipedia and the community is mature enough for that. Thanks to all for clarification. --TimBits 21:12, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

As Special:GlobalUsers/Ombudsmen is live now (includes global checkuser, browsearchive and deletedhistory access, see [29]), please remove the previously granted local rights from User:Hei_ber (confirm). Rebecca and Mackensen currently don't have any additional CU status other than on en.wp, so there's nothing to change in their cases afaik (their local CU access is based on the 'former arbitrators' role, cf. en.wikipedia).
Complete list of removals, cf. SULutil:

Why an appointment is needed: Currently our project has no real admin. (The only admin is DerHexer, one of you guys, who is obviously very busy, so has not been particularly active on our project. I believe this has been the case for about a year now. Our user interface is shabby, and Sonne has theorised that the difficulty of making entries may be one reason other users (we have 104 registered) are, or have become, reluctant to contribute. I would like to attend to updating/creating our common.css and .js, as well as the editing tools and buttons available, as soon as possible.
Also routine tasks have gone unattended for some time. E.g., needless to say, candidates for speedy deletion--aren't.
Community Approval: I have checked with sysop DerHexer, who suggested making this request.
There was no substantive response to the entry linked above. The entry was posted only one week ago. However, Sonne and I are the only two users who have created or edited pages since the third of this month (during the entire past month, one registered user made three edits, and contacts of mine, unregistered on our project, left me messages in a couple places.) So I think it's safe to say we have a consensus. ;-) Additionally, in the near future, I may be taking on some rather complex work that would limit time I can devote to the project. So time may be somewhat more of the essence than in the normal case.
Qualifications: Sonne and I are making this request jointly. Neither of us is comfortable taking on the job alone. Sonne is a native speaker of the project's language, while I have been self-teaching for a month now. On the other side, I have a handle on the tech. I'm currently running a bot, and have become familiar with complex templates and parser functions. I have some knowledge of css and js, and have made good contacts on the English Wikt who have pointed me to their code and explained some of the workings to me.
Sonne and I would both prefer to have an admin who has already served on another project. A diligent effort to find one has been made. I put messages on the discussion pages of prior admins I could locate, both on the wikt project and the sister wp project. Then the general appeal linked above was posted. Another user (one of you guys, perhaps?) posted that he had made an appeal at the village pump on our sister wikipedia site.
Sonne is not registered here, so is not seconding this request on this page. We did not think that would be necessary. Please see the bottom of my local talk page for evidence of our agreement.
Finally, if, for any reason, permanent appointment is deemed inappropriate, please consider this a request in the alternative for other appropriate relief, including but not limited to temporary appointment, or any other remedy as you may see fit.
Thank you. Snakesteuben 10:51, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- Please note that translation of the user interface should *not* be done in the wiki itself, but on Beta-Wiki. Create an account there and ask some bureaucrat there for translator status. These translations are then used in all Wikimedia wikis. --Thogo (talk) 10:55, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- Wow. That was fast. You actually read my user page! Understood, good to know, and will do. So, if the wp people had done it that way, the stuff I was going to copy from them would have magically appeared for us, too? Snakesteuben 11:00, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
- If the WP people had done it on Beta Wiki, you would be able to use these translations on all Wikimedia Wikis, by setting your preference to Frisian. But anyway, I guess the wiki is yet too small to get permanent sysops, so I granted you both temp sysopship for 3 months for any kind of .js and .css maintenance and deleting/blocking and all this kind of stuff. Expiring 29 Jul 2008 Just come here some days before that and drop a note that you want to have it extended (if you want that). So this is Done. :) --Thogo (talk) 11:08, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

- For what it is worth, I lend my support here. Jack has shown a lot of interest in the technical setup of id:wp, jv:wp (and also starting to help with en:ws), he has worked very closely with the community on this, and is very unlikely to do anything inappropriate there. I have checked all of the sysops, and there are a few that are active, but not very active, and there are language barriers here as well. I recommend temporary sysop; he should only need half an hour. John Vandenberg 11:42, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

- Local User Page: gv:User:Alison
- Preferred duration and reason: - one week only. I happened to stop by the wiki and noticed that the usual bots are flooding recentchanges with interwiki links to articles, etc. There are also a number of bogus/vandalism-only accounts which need rename. Also, I'd like to establish the Standard Bot Policy over there, so stewards can deal with this in future with minimum issues. MacTire02 - the only sysop - has given assent to my asking for a temp sysop/'crat bit to clean up the wiki[37], fix the bot issues and establish the usual cross-wiki policy, as he's not really sure what to do. I've done this before on gawiki/gawikti/gdwikti so it'll be no issue at all :) I can speak Irish Gaelic and can just about hack reading Manx Gaelic, so can work over there easy enough. Myself and MacTire02 both speak English and Irish so we're okay.

- If You wish we could leave it open here and wait, but if You think there will be no votes, I could offer You a temporary sysop status, because in small communities we do not grant permanent status as the votings are not representative. Technically it is exactly the same, You just come back here shortly before the status expires and let us know everything is fine. - Temp-sysop status would be fine. I really can't see there being any votes unfortunately. I'm just really hoping more people would join our community so we could make a proper go of it. I have been on the community only a few months and it is quite dead. I normally don't nominate myself for things but we do need an active sysop to keep things clean there. Global rollback for Az1568
- Global user: Az1568 (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA)
I'd like to request global rollback since it would allow me to easily revert spam and vandalism (ex: afwiki, wowiki, kgwiki, iewiki, jbowiki, rmowiki, global contrib list) that I may come across while monitoring small/inactive wikis as member of the SWMT. --Az1568 06:31, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Global rollback for Herbythyme
- Global user: Herbythyme (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA)
I won't be offended if this request is rejected :) I'd not be likely to make great use of this but I would use it to deal with cross wiki spam placed aggressively. For the most part I would prefer an informative narrative rather than simply rollback but it would help cleaning in some cases. I guess quite a few people know me and I am fairly active these days across wikis. It would be helpful. Wikimatrix is here.
Thanks --Herby talk thyme 07:24, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

- Comment are there other rollbacks outside his home wiki besides those four linked in the request? I can't find them. IMHO this user is not an active member of SWMT, are userpage creations across projects considered vandal fighting? Does he really need it?
