Hello! I am a former global sysop and global rollbacker. No doubt, 2020 was an anxious year for everyone. My rights were removed on 29 June 2020 for creating an article twice at the English Wikipedia where I am not really a proficient user my stupidity. You may read the detailed discussion over here. I would like to comeback to my anti-vandalism work. I am an active SWMT member, and I everyday monitor wikis through #cvn-swconnect. Various filters and sometimes CAPTCHA across wikis bothers me in my anti-vandalism work. This is why I am here looking for vote of confidence. Thank you for your time and valuable consideration. Kind regards, — Tulsi Bhagat contribs | talk ] 08:13, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

  •   Comment Since the previous removal involved Tulsi's English Wikipedia activity, I notified the English Wikipedia. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 08:33, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
@Tulsi Bhagat:, ordinarily I would have directly supported you, but it's the second time I'm seeing you lose permissions due to your actions. How would you make sure that whatever led to your revocation of GR would not happen again? And why is that you are now admitting that you made a mistake but back then tried to justify your actions? Leaderboard (talk) 08:34, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
Thank you Leaderboard for your questions. I am the kind of person who learns from the mistake and/or own actions. I am a far perfect human being. I am always a learner. I try to make myself better and better. I don't repeat my bad. Sorry, I couldn't recall my situation. Probably I was figuring to myself out from that situation. Kind regards, — Tulsi Bhagat contribs | talk ] 08:52, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
I'm not satisfied with your response. Leaderboard (talk) 09:46, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
  • Oppose This tool requires trust on all Wiki's and such trust has been lost on English Wikipedia. Perhaps they should apply on individual Wiki's where they have not misused this tool. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 08:42, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
  • Strong Oppose The fact that Tulsi can't be honest about the removal of their previous permissions makes it a strong oppose. I'd prefer them to be globally locked and community banned from all WMF sites for their flagrant Terms of Use violations, rather than asking for global permissions only months after they had their permissions revoked by the Stewards. The root cause of their permissions being removed isn't their claimed lack of proficiency, but that they were caught trying to add an article that was solicited via a paid editing site and that they were reviewing articles on the English Wikipedia added by just one account (subsequently blocked for paid editing Terms of Use violations and sockpuppetry). They were subsequently caught offering "Free social media support" that is "Related to Wikimedia projects" (I've still got the screenshot of your advert, Tulsi, should your memory require additional refreshment - if you want me to upload it, just let me know the license you're releasing it under). There's further details about all of these issues at w:User_talk:Tulsi_Bhagat/Archive_2#Paid_editing and the full discussion remains deeply concerning. The loss of trust was massive and will take years, not weeks to overcome here. Nick (talk) 09:26, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
  •   Strong oppose Trust comes by foot, leaves by horse. (Translated from this Dutch expression: Vertrouwen komt te voet, vertrekt te paard. That expression means it's very hard to get trust, and it's easy to lose it.) Nieuwsgierige Gebruiker (CA) 09:48, 7 March 2021 (UTC)

Global rollback for נריה קלר

Not ending before 27 March 2021 15:20 UTC
  •   Oppose. There is no reason for your request, and your edit matrix does not indicate crosswiki experience either. Leaderboard (talk) 15:28, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
I tour all the little sites, and permission will help me. נריה קלר (talk) 15:32, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
Hi @נריה קלר:, you do not need global rollback to "tour" the sites or perform basic antivandalism (the Undo tool is available). GR is normally for users who already have some experience in reverting cross-wiki vandalism. Leaderboard (talk) 15:35, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
I know I do not have to, but it's more convenient. This permission can not be harmful (especially for a contributing user), and I ask that you change the vote. נריה קלר (talk) 15:37, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
@נריה קלר: In practice, undo works well enough for reverting vandalism (as someone who does occasional crosswiki anti-vandalism). The community normally requests some experience in this field before requesting global rollback (which is the reason I haven't applied for it). If you want to take this route, SWMT is a helpful place to start. Leaderboard (talk) 15:41, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
I'm already using it, but much more convenient that I can recover easily, because I before I restore the corruption I click on "difference", and then it is consumed. נריה קלר (talk) 15:47, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
  •   Oppose Not a serious application without giving any rationale. Touring clearly isn't one. Being a sysop I think you will know that when we apply for something, clearly we need to give some reason except like say autopatrol which doesn't have much effect on editing. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 15:37, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
@Camouflaged Mirage, Sorry I did not give a reason, but the reason is to make it more convenient for me to monitor all the little wiki sites. נריה קלר (talk) 15:39, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
@נריה קלר Monitoring sites doesn't require any additional rights. Thanks. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 15:40, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
Although not obligatory, but more convenient. נריה קלר (talk) 15:42, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
@נריה קלר The issue here is that you do not have a track record. Vandalism in projects can take many forms, and we need to see a track record to be comfortable to grant such permission. I will suggest what Leaderboard said above and come back say 3-6 months later, and you will then be a good candidate. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 15:45, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
  •   Oppose Little crosswiki experience or demonstrated need --DannyS712 (talk) 15:37, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
@DannyS712, I monitor all wiki sites, and this permission will help me. Although I did not monitor much, but later I intend to monitor more, and even if I have the permission I will be more comfortable. נריה קלר (talk) 15:41, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
  •   Oppose --Saroj Uprety (talk) 15:45, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
  • Don't get discouraged by this but IMHO it would be great if you do patrol small wiki for few months and request for GR after some experience. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 15:46, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
  • OK. I've heard everything you told me, and I'm taking down the request. A few more months I will turn here again, and I will ask again. thank you for the detailed explanation! נריה קלר (talk) 15:50, 22 March 2021 (UTC)

Global rollback for Elli

Not ending before 5 April 2021 03:15 UTC

Hi, this is a bit of a weird request, so I would understand it being rejected, but I can't find anyway to do what I'd like with a more restrictive userright. I've recently been renaming a significant amount of files on Wikimedia Commons, which automatically tries to replace all uses of the old name with the new one. However, if blocked by say, a CAPTCHA, it instead adds it to a list to be processed by c:User:CommonsDelinker, which is not ideal. Therefore, I'd like something like "global autoconfirmed" to avoid such CAPTCHAs and be able to replace usage globally. Since there is no such right, but "skipcaptcha" is included with global rollback, I'm requesting it here. Thanks for your consideration. (as for trust/experience, I have ~16k contribs at enwiki, ~5k at commons, and ~1k at Wikidata, and am a pending changes reviewer at enwiki, so I do have some experience with dealing with vandalism. I've never vandalized, been blocked, or as far as I can remember, edit warred) Elli (talk) 03:15, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

@Elli perhaps CAPTCHA exemptions might be a better option? Global user group with just skipcaptcha, which seems like its what you're asking for DannyS712 (talk) 03:19, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
@DannyS712: I was unaware that group existed! Yes, I'd be perfectly happy with that. Elli (talk) 03:22, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
@Elli then I suggest you withdraw this request and file a new one below, under "Requests for other global permissions" - there is precedent for your use case DannyS712 (talk) 03:23, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
@DannyS712: Doing that. Thanks. Elli (talk) 03:25, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

Global sysop for Savh

Hi, I'd like to re-apply to the Global Sysop group. I previously was one from July 2011 onwards, nearly ten years ago. I was later elected steward in 2014, and resigned from that position in 2017. The last couple of months I have been quite active again as a part of the SWMT (now using SWViewer), and I think having access to the Global Sysop toolset would be beneficial to intervene in certain situations without the need to call on others for deletions and blocks. As mentioned in my past requests, I'm bilingual Dutch & Spanish, and understand a few other Latin and Germanic languages. Aside from my global activities, I'm a sysop on the Spanish Wikipedia and on the Spanish Wikibooks. Savhñ 22:36, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

I frequently consider editing various wikipedia pages about which I have specific or obscure knowledge/information which would improve the quality of the given articles, or to link otherwise disparate subjects together. However given my desire to avoid surveillance capitalism et al, I am consistently blocked from doing so due to my IP address(es). The frustration involved has even made me reconsider donating to wikimedia foundation during past fundraising drives, though I am otherwise predisposed to do so.

Global IP block exempt for LJF2019

Removal of global IP block exempt for Wqxjgp

The user is almost exclusively active on fawiki and has been blocked there multiple times, including for suspected sock puppetry. Essentially, the user has bypassed the local IPBE process by requesting and receiving the access here. Many proxy IPs that are globally blocked are not locally blocked, and having global IPBE allows users to bypass those. Therefore, global IPBE should be restricted to good faith users, which this user is not. CU data on fawiki shows the user has indeed used VPN and hosting in the last few weeks. Therefore, as a local CU, I would like to request removal of global IPBE for this user. --Huji (talk) 00:51, 29 March 2021 (UTC)

Global rename for Leaderboard

I am an en.wikibooks, MediaWiki sysop and a Meta patroller and want to help users in renaming their accounts. I plan to start with simple and uncontroversial renames in English first (given that this is an advanced and risky permission), before moving on later to the other languages I can read (hi) and speak (ml) (I do not plan to handle other languages for now given their policy differences). Thanks in advance for your consideration, and apologies if I've gotten something wrong.

Note: On the subject of renames, I was blocked in (see my talk page there) as a new user at the end of 2013 as my username was considered promotional. While the block was correct back then, it happened due to my immaturity at that time and do not think that it should be an issue anymore.

P.S: Both en.wikibooks and redirect their rename pages to Meta.

  •   Oppose IMO global renamer should be one who appreciates constructive criticism and nice when communicating with other users but I don't like the way you interact with other users especially this instance where you called an established user's request "junk". Also here when you were told that your deletion was wrong, you tried to make your own policy. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 03:39, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
@1997kB:, thanks for your comments. I think I should respond to the two examples you provided:
For the first one, I admit the use of the word "junk" was not good. I was trying to say something on the lines of "I would have opposed the request because it is inappropriate to request GS for a single LTA", and unfortunately "junk" was not an ideal equivalent, for which I apologise.
For the second one, I did not intend to create my own deletion policy. I was just explaining in good faith why I thought the deletion was appropriate, and as you would have noticed, I undeleted the page in the course of our discussion and did not delete it back. Plus, as it turns out, it was deleted later (with different content). We do have a lot of users on MediaWiki that misunderstand the purpose of a user page.
Again, thanks for your comments, especially the first one you raised, as I could have handled that better. Leaderboard (talk) 08:54, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
  •   Neutral I have read your unblock requests and am 50/50 about this. The sysops on English Wikipedia have said that they'll block you again if Leaderboard Web Browser starts up again. However you have made positive contributions on all wikis for the last two years, and have made at least one edit on 30 different Wikis. 08:58, 6 March 2021 (UTC)
  • My usual standard is that a sysop in a medium size / large size wiki which is relatively active and not under the cloud should be given the access. As of the medium size wiki, it's met by enwikibooks. Active they are, and not under a cloud there they are too. For the mediawiki issues it's unfortunate that there is such occurrence, but it's in 2019 which 2 years ago is a little quite long but well the placing of their own policies is a little worrying, as GR usually needs to respect policy, not re-create their own. As of the labelling as junk, it's also unfortunate but they had apologized above. I am not particularly interested in the enwp issue as it's seems settled but it unfortunately have to do with username. I am really torn apart with this request. On the balance we have a trusted user wanting to help in a bona fide manner, and I will think they would had taken into consideration the feedback they received here and if successful, handle renames very cautiously. The way they handled the oppose shown some degree of maturity of communication too. Hence, I will   Support the access.Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 13:14, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

  •   Support Tell me if I'm right. This task deviates a little from the problems cited by the opponents: a request is made, the request is checked, then the renaming is done or not. A problem can arise when interacting with applicants or local communities, but I remain confident about it (it's not as if he is endlessly negative on all these interventions…). The main problem is the renaming itself, but several errors can be found quickly - especially by local wikis - and the right removed quickly. Cordially. —Eihel (talk) 21:55, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

@Arccosecant: With due respect to you, I will have to disagree about your "hat collecting" comment, for the below reasons:
    • The request you have linked to is nearly two years old
    • I do not request a flag unless I think I could help the community, and it's true for every request I make. I am aware that I requested relatively more flags during the 2018-19 period, and have been more careful since then.
If you think a request that was made two years back can be attributed as "hat collecting", I would appreciate if you could tell me for how long I need to wait before requesting any flag so that I do not get hit with "hat collecting" accusations, because I really hate being accused of it. Leaderboard (talk) 08:58, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
@Leaderboard: Can you offer up a refutation of said hat collecting claims? They appear quite scathing, so I'd like to know why they're wrong as opposed to simply having been a while ago. — csc-1 16:15, 18 March 2021 (UTC)
@Arccosecant: I think I had addressed them in the above comment. It is important to give context to the timeframe of those allegations, because they would hold substantially more weight if these comments were made, say, a month back, than two years. This also applies to the "behaviour" concerns that 1997Kb pointed out (out of which I have already apologised for one); I would have much preferred to know about it soon after making that comment rather than when applying for GR. People (including myself) make mistakes from time to time, and I try to improve from them.
Were these claims true two years back? I personally don't think so, because I applied for that specific right because I saw some backlogs in MediaWiki's userrights page (a lot of bureaucrats in are inactive) and thought I, as an active administrator back then, could process them (similar to my failed CheckUser application on en.wikibooks in December 2018). Unfortunately, others had a different opinion on what constituted hat collecting, and I had to respect their views as well. Plus, there was a problem with my userpage: I formerly used to provide details on the flag applications I made for transparency reasons, which many users unexpectedly construed it to be hat-collecting. Hence, as a result of the feedback I got during that application, I removed it. I also did not make any flag applications anywhere till January 2021 (where I unsuccessfully applied for limited Meta.Wiki RfA, though that has nothing to do with hat-collecting).
If I should be answering something else, or if you want me to comment on any specific allegation or comment in that request, please let me know. Thanks in advance. Leaderboard (talk) 16:34, 18 March 2021 (UTC)

@AmandaNP:, I am not aware of a rule saying that I needed to get a certain number of support votes. Are you referring to the "80% support" in the policy? Plus, this appears to be in (direct) contraction to the header of this page which clearly says that it's not a vote (Please note that global renamer discussions are not votes and This is not a vote). Thanks in advance. Leaderboard (talk) 14:37, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
The text at the top of this section is templated in every section on this page, and therefore I will take the GRN policy page over what that says. And yes, I'm referring to the 80% support line. A generous interpetation has you at 67% support. -- Amanda (aka DQ) 14:43, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
@AmandaNP: fair enough, but then it's odd to meet one criterion but not the other for the same role... Should that be changed? P.S: I think it should be 73%, not 67% (I count 8 supports and 3 oppose at best). Leaderboard (talk) 14:50, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
It's a community decision to figure out what text should be there, I am only one closer/steward. I'm also not going to argue out a vote count, especially since either way it's below 80%. -- Amanda (aka DQ) 14:56, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

I would like to try 2 Factor Auth in a bot setting, thanks. I have generated a separate account for this, so the account is brand new. My operational bot account is SchlurcherBot, with 50'000'000 edits on Wikimedia Commons. --Schlurcher (talk) 08:53, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

2FA Tester for EstrellaBot

I would like to try 2 Factor Auth for my bot-account. My reason for wanting it can be read at Help talk:Two-factor authentication but basically I'm applying for local adminship for the bot and I'm sure both myself and the community would feel safer knowing the account has 2FA enabled. A botflagged account with admin rights simply cannot get compromised, it would be catastrophic. Although I do use great passwords and would never use the account on any unsafe connections I would like to go the extra mile to ensure that doesn't happen. And I would like to try out the 2FA before I get the adminflag, in case I do indeed get the OK, so that I know what I'm doing with the 2FA and especially with the BotPasswords & AWB part of it. I've never used a 2FA application before but I have read Help:Two-factor authentication thoroughly and I also tried BotPasswords on a test account which worked fine. Abuse filter helper for 1997kB

The following request is closed Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Not ending before 9 March 2021 05:31 UTC

Hello everyone, I am asking this permission mainly to inspect private global filter log entries with little ease. I mostly patrol Indic wiki projects and to view such abuse logs I have to come to metawiki (where I have access to them being a sysop). This is really time consuming and complicated especially since I do a lot such activity on mobile. Therefore having this will save my time and effort. I also have abuse filter helper on enwiki and know little bit about filters too. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 05:31, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

  •   Support - FitIndia Talk Admin on Commons 06:51, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
  • @1997kB: Can you explain your situation further? My understanding is that AFH is best for users who have a need to view local and private filters. If you're a meta-wiki sysop, I don't see the point of having AFH, because when you click on a private filter, it should directly take you to meta. But then I might be missing something. Leaderboard (talk) 07:44, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
@Leaderboard: Compare [6] with [7]. Suppose you are on MediaWiki and see that someone hit a private global filter, then you can't see details, so in this case you have to come on meta and look through log entries that which filter was triggered and then look into the details. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 08:04, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
If that's the case, fair enough; I have AFH and MediaWiki sysop and hence can't reproduce your claim, but am willing to   Support. Leaderboard (talk) 08:22, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

Hello grin: It looks like you need interface editor permissions to perform some work on hu.wiktionary only, right? If so, any local bureaucrat on hu.wiktionary can grant you via wikt:hu:Special:UserRights (following local appointments policy, etc.) a local interface-editor flag that will let you edit restricted JS/CSS/JSON pages and would be more appropriate. Standard notice I always write: Wikimedia requires that users having access to either global or local interface-editor permissions must enable and keep enabled two-factor authentication while having access to those permissions. Apologies if you were already aware of the requirement or you already have 2FA on your account. Best regards. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 12:05, 12 March 2021 (UTC)
