Global rollback for Hamish

I've been monitoring global edits via SWViewer for a few months, I think I deserve this permission to help me do better. I am the sysop in both zhwiki and, this makes me have a good understanding about the tool so I will use it properly. Regards, --Hamish 11:59, 13 May 2020 (UTC)

  •   Support clear use case. --Minorax (talk) 12:01, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
  •   Neutral I am bit confused actually, Cross wiki matrix shows good numbers but, most of their edits on various projects are file renames on commons (correct me if I am wrong!). They have made approximately 1500 edits in cross wiki work so they are familiar with overall work but, reverts on the project where they are not familiar with the language are lacking. Global rollbacker needs to identify vandalism beyond language barriers. So, though they have a good standing in their home projects and good intentions and need for the rights too. I am not much convince to support. Maybe some more time is needed? I might change my vote if someone points out that my observations are wrong. thanks and regards. -- QueerEcofeminist "cite! even if you fight"!!! [they/them/their] 15:15, 13 May 2020 (UTC)

Just hope they can take it slow at areas they don't understand (i.e. languages they don't know or etc) and skip those they are not that sure in. I will typically expect slightly more crosswiki experiences from actual reverting but their overall knowledge of crosswiki work seems adequate via SRG and IRC requests and etc. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 07:40, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

Quibbling over a mistaken word when you still haven't bothered to read the requirements for GR either is not a good look, Arthurfan828. Praxidicae (talk) 21:06, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
Also even if you weren't CU blocked with nearly a dozen socks, I'd still strongly oppose since you meet exactly 0 of the requirements, have no local rollback and have only ever edited (at least under this account) a whopping 10 projects. Praxidicae (talk) 21:09, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

Global rollback for Streetdeck

Hi everyone! I'm Streetdeck. I have been monitoring xwiki work by SWViewer for eight months. GR can make me do better and more easy to fight vandlism and long-term-abuse. I'm also a rollbacker in 4 wikiprojects. I think it's the time to requests for global rollback. And I have read the guidelines of global rollback. •   Support Slightly weak one, while I see the index is a little high (0.76, I usually prefer 0.72) and the reverts are not that much, 76 projects with 1 revert or more, and 15 or so with 5 reverts or more is a little low. I will also note some of the reverts are done in edit warring with LTAs which isn't appropriate. There are a few projects that they can ask local rollback rights too. Having said that, I am confident that they will learn on the job and are trusted in several projects. I spot checked several projects and find their reverts accurate too. I will give a cautious support but will caution them to take this tool absolutely slowly as there can be some more subtle changes that seems vandalism but not vandalism. I also know them personally and find them a good Wikimedian in general, this is what lean me to support rather than neutral. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 11:18, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

Global rollback for Naleksuh

The following request is closed Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Not ending before 29 May 2020 21:36 UTC

Hello, I am requesting Global Rollback as I currently reverting vandalism and LTAs across a string of multiple different wikis, and am currently a strong target for LTAs as the crafter of certain scripts and owner of LTA Wiki (private). See for example, this most recent attack on WikiSpecies, where I was being targetted and nothing to do but undo, until a steward later intervened. I would like to request global rollback to avoid requesting under every wiki and / or being a strong target in wikis I have never edited before. I do note the above of frowning on edit warring with LTAs in petty situations like talk pages, it's something I've done before but have stopped. I do believe in reverting without mercy in mainspace pages or any other high-traffic page (such as w:Project:Vandalism and such). Please consider this request carefully, and let me know if you have any questions. Naleksuh (talk) 21:36, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

  •   Oppose let me start off by saying that you for your counter-vandalism work. However, you registered your account in march of this year, and outside of the wikis where you have rollback, I see the following undos:
    • 1 on urwiki
    • a number of wikispecies, all on the same day for one vandal
    • three here on meta
    • 13 on enwiki
Local rollback can be obtained on both enwiki and meta. In short, I'm not seeing a need for global rollback rights at this time. I suggest reapplying in the future after spending more time on cross-wiki counter vandalism. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 23:03, 24 May 2020 (UTC)
  • Too little experience using revert xwiki for rollback at the moment. Please get more experience reverting across language barriers. Most successful candidates can demonstrate both a width of experience (across multiple projects, usually at least 20+) and depth (many reverts overall). – Ajraddatz (talk) 23:21, 24 May 2020 (UTC)
@Ajraddatz: This is worded like an oppose, but your edit summary is "c" which stands for Comment. Can you clarify your view here? Naleksuh (talk) 23:41, 24 May 2020 (UTC)
I think my comment is very clear. These are consensus-building exercises, not straight votes, and I prefer to raise concerns without an oppose "vote" because I appreciate that you are a volunteer and offering to help out here. That said, I think you should get more experience before getting for these rights. Regards, – Ajraddatz (talk) 00:34, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
Ah, thanks for clarifying. While I'm aware consensus is not the same as voting (if it was, then not putting   Support or   Oppose would void what you said entirely), however, your feedback has been appreciated. I am currently working into ways to expand into many different projects, both by editing them and by stuff I create covering any project. Naleksuh (talk) 01:11, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
  •   Oppose Not enough experience for a global permission. As was stated before, you have only been around for two and a half months. Also, edit warring on[1] was warned for it[2]. Although, you have stated that you have stopped edit warring and the referenced action has not been repeated. As for reverting LTAs and other blatant vandals on wikis where you do not have rollback, you could always use Twinkle's rollback feature. It's not as fast as regular rollback, but it is faster then undo. In short, WP:NOTQUITEYET. Don't let this discourage you from making a request in the future though. I have seen your antivandalism work, and while I am impressed, especially by your quick responses to LTA attacks, I just think you need more experience reverting vandalism across multiple wikis. 01:50, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
  •   Oppose. I appreciate your work on simple and all, but I'm not seeing a satisfactory enough level of activity or experience for a global role quite yet. Hiàn (talk) 01:54, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
  •   Neutral Normally I would drive by strong support for global rollbacker request, but in this case, I'm seeing some convincing arguments by the opposes. If you really want to become a global rollbacker, just use Global Twinkle. 101 global rollbackers with it. Can I Log In (talk) 05:44, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
    • @Can I Log In: GR have more access than the Global TW and please don't drive by support for GR, this can be problematic at times although being a sunshine supporter isn't really bad.  . Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 08:01, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
      • It's only one technical difference. Using Huggle on enwiki requiring generic rollback. That's it. GR and Global TW both can do rollback. What am I missing? Can I Log In (talk) 16:25, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
        • @Can I Log In: Not entirely true, GRs have supressredirect, markbotedits and other rights. Minor yes but the threshold of trust needs to be higher than generic TW Global as such rights if used incorrectly, although can be easily reverted, can cause disruption. I won't go through how each can be abused per BEANS. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 16:30, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
          • Well when you look deep, there's
            • View detailed abuse log entries (abusefilter-log-detail)
            • Not be affected by IP-based rate limits (autoconfirmed)
            • Have one's own edits automatically marked as patrolled (autopatrol)
            • Auto-review on rollback (autoreviewrestore)
            • Edit pages protected as "Allow only autoconfirmed users" (editsemiprotected)
            • Mark rolled-back edits as bot edits (markbotedits)
            • Move pages (move)
            • Move pages with stable versions (movestable)
            • Not be affected by rate limits (noratelimit)
            • Quickly rollback the edits of the last user who edited a particular page (rollback)
            • Perform CAPTCHA-triggering actions without having to go through the CAPTCHA (skipcaptcha)
            • Not create redirects from source pages when moving pages (suppressredirect)
          • So you pretty much become a global rollbacker AND (auto)confirmed user. And in addition, 5 non-rollback and (auto)confirmed user rights. The more you know. Can I Log In (talk) 16:45, 25 May 2020 (UTC)

  • Oppose On simple they have had a propensity to revert war with editors. While removing vandalism is necessary, doing so 5+ times in a row seconds apart is not necessarily helpful, just step away and get an admin to help block the account. Revert warring in that manor just encourages them to continue. But really as most of the others have said the main issue is lack of x-wiki experience. -Djsasso (talk) 12:05, 25 May 2020 (UTC)

Global sysop for Hasley

The following request is closed Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Not ending before 12 May 2020 14:46 UTC

Hello everyone! I am Hasley, an active SWMT member in cross-wiki anti-spam/vandalism works. I am a global rollbacker and have sysop-experience on three projects.

Global sysop toolkit would be quite useful for me. I have:

  • tagged more than 1,000 pages for speedy deletion using SWViewer up to January. I would like to help with xwiki deletions and SRM/GSR backlog;
  • reverted and reported via SRG/#wikimedia-stewards hundreds of LTAs from many GS-projects. Sometimes massive vandals/spambot attacks also appear. I think being able to block them would help tremendously.

My mother tongue is Spanish, I can read an, ast, ca, cbk, co, ext, fr, gl, ia, it, lad [Latin script], lmo, nap, oc, pap, pms, pt, rm and vec. I have carefully read the global policy. Two-factor authentication is enabled. Please let me know if you have any questions. Kind regards, —Sgd. Hasley 14:46, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

  •   Neutral. I don't want to oppose but I'm completely agreeing with anon here. It looks like Hasley wants to get as much rights as possible on different projects. It's not necessarily bad, because it shows that the user is trusted on many different projects, but as the anon pointed out, he only has ~1000 edits on wikiversity and got sysop rights there (and that doesn't really show trust, more like there is a lack of sysops there). I'm sorry if I'm mistaken, but it just looks like the candidate wants to gather as much rights as possible and not help the projects with the tools he already has. I'm afraid that steward rights are next. It's also pretty bad in my eyes because gathering a lot of rights can quickly burn you out and can lead to loosing interest in this activity altogether. If your only motivation in dealing with cross-wiki vandalism is gathering more and more rights - it's not going to end well. It looks like the request for GS will be successfull, so I wish you good luck nevertheless. 11:29, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

Global sysop for A

I would like to apply for Global Sysop right to help Vietnamese Wikimedia projects that are currently suffering from massive vandalism, ([3], [4]) while most projects, with the exception of Wikipedia, are understaffed. I currently have the rollback rights for Vietnamese Wikipedia and Commons, IP block exempt for Vietnamese Wikivoyage. As for the sysop experience, I was temporarily sysop for Vietnamese Wikivoyage back in 2013 when I still used my former account TRMC (talk contribs count logs page moves block log CA email). Apart from Vietnamese, I can speak English, German, French and Chinese so I may help projects in other languages if necessary.--A (talk) 05:14, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

There are only three projects in question, and you have very few edits on them. Why not apply for local administrator userrights? Vermont (talk) 05:39, 17 May 2020 (UTC)
Our Vietnamese community has had to do a lot lately when it comes to sockpuppets and vandalism. Most recently, a sockpuppeteers with almost 50 sockpuppets caused major problems in the Vietnamese Wikipedia. What is more dangerous is that vandalism from vi.wikipedia has shifted to other, smaller projects since they don't have the personal to protect themselves from those attacks. Since not only one project is affected, I think that GS right would a more effective counteraction against vandalism. I haven't made many edits to other Vietnamese projects since I changed my username, but I think with my experience at Commons and Wikipedia, I could do my best to help the GS team.--A (talk) 06:20, 17 May 2020 (UTC)
Why not start with global rollback instead? Leaderboard (talk) 07:32, 17 May 2020 (UTC)
Rollback is a great tool and I've had a lot of experience with it, but it doesn't help much if those users are still able to revert all of my reverts as I can't block them. That why GS flag will help me a lot in preventing cross wikis vandalism.--A (talk) 07:50, 17 May 2020 (UTC)
  •   Oppose You have 7000 edits in viwiki and at Commons, in other wikis have you no much edits. The use in 3 Vi projects is not what Global Sysops do. Global Sysop is there for 800 projects, so use in 3 projects is not sufficient.--𝐖𝐢𝐤𝐢𝐁𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫 👤💬 07:38, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

User:Reylanno has 12,741 edits on Russian Wikipedia and they are an editor (patroller, if I'm not mistaken) and redirect suppressing mover there. Recently, they had problems with two range blocks (see User talk:Reylanno for more info). User:Green Giant solved the problem last time by limiting the global block to anons, but now they have this problem with another range block. I think the global IPBE flag should be granted so that they won't be experiencing such problems again. They also can't edit this page because of the local block, so I'm requesting instead. Thank you. •   Oppose No experience in the area, plus temporary admin rights. Additionally history of this page raises some doubts, account came to wikivoyage for rename and create a local rename page while Vietnamese wiki already have username change venue. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 11:32, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
@1997kB: If in doubt me, you can check Phạm Gia Triết's account and my account? – Le Duc Anh (💬|📝) 12:10, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
@1997kB: Base on what you said, your supposition is not so unfounded. However, I can confirm that the User PTrietVN.HCMC, who requested to be renamed, has nothing to do with JohnsonLee01. I still don't know why PTrietVN.HCMC chose Wikivoyage instead of Wikipedia. As far as I know, efforts are currently being made to draw more attention to other smaller projects like Wikivoyage and I think that this is a good sign, not only for vi.Wikivoyage but for the whole Vietnamese community.--故人 talk 12:33, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
@A: The reason I highlighted this is because user requesting renamer right provided that request as an example that there is need. Even if I ignore that, which I did, user applied for renamer a day after the first request on project, too fast.. isn't it? Also there's already a renamer handling those requests, and I'd also love to have another native Vietnamese renamer but as I said this is just too fast. IMHO they should spend time on Vietnamese Wikipedia venue to know how process works and try later. Also normally because of less requests small wiki's like tends to defer requests to Global queue, because these wiki's normally have temporary admins and once they gets inactive, nobody will be there to manage such pages. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 13:35, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
  •   strong oppose I'm sorry but a 40 day old account simply doesn't have the experience and established track record for me to support such a hefty global permission or any global permission. I also want to add that I'm genuinely concerned at how quickly you've amassed major rights, including interface admin on a project you've been registered for only 37 days and only substantially editing four literally four days. Praxidicae (talk) 13:14, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

Add abusefilter-helper for Supertoff

The following request is closed Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

I would like to understand the actions of private global filters and be able to help users who report false positives about them on frwiki. I am a sysop and an abusefilter editor on frwiki.

Thanks, Supertoff (talk) 13:56, 9 May 2020 (UTC)

  •   Question: Hi Supertoff, I could have a question for you: Could you describe the next script?
action = "edit" &
!("bot" in user_groups
| "sysop" in user_groups
| user_name in page_title) &
page_namespace = 2
Nieuwsgierige Gebruiker (talk) 14:07, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
  • I suggested Supertoff to do this request and I support it, because he is one of the most active users on the false positive reports page. frwiki is one of the biggest wikis where global filters are enabled and we get more and more reports related to global filters these days. Orlodrim (talk) 14:12, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
Hi Nieuwsgierige Gebruiker. A test to see if I understand filters ? Ok (I already made some of french filters) : This script is to detect edit on "user's page" when done by user except bot, sysop and page owner. Right ? Supertoff (talk) 15:31, 9 May 2020 (UTC)

  •   Support as this is a special use-case (frwiki is very large and impacted by these), requester has enough tenure to trust they won't go around inappropriately disclosing filter information from other projects. — xaosflux Talk 13:49, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
