Global rollback for Masumrezarock100

The following request is closed. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Not ending before 2 February 2020 16:52 UTC

Hi, for those who are not familiar with me, I am Masumrezarock100 I have been a SWMT member for a few months now and I actively patrol crosswiki with SWViewer, TwinkleGlobal and Fakerollback. I am asking for this permission to counter vandalism more efficiently. Global rollback unlike global sysop rights (which aid experienced SWMT members counter vandalism on small wikis), is truly global meaning it extends to all wikis, including big ones. I wanted to gain more experience, which is why I started patrolling mid-sized wikis as well as some big ones (eg. dewiki, frwiki, itwiki etc.). To be honest, I didn't have much self-confidence in myself and thought I needed more experience. But after multiple existing GR and GS encouraged me, I am applying. I am aware of global rights policy (enwiki version) and will only use my access to assist in counter vandalism. Thanks for your consideration. Masum Reza📞 16:56, 28 January 2020 (UTC)

  •   Strong support I am an admin on Sco.wiki where we frequently receive a specific type of vandalism unique to that wiki (Scots to English vandals who like to try and "correct spelling errors"). I granted Masumrezarock100 +rollback on the project, and there has not been a single day I have regretted it. They are a very careful user who always has ensured the long term integrity of the project. I have am fully confident in Masumrezarock100's anti-vandalism skills especially coming from a smaller project where they have been a great asset. –MJLTalk 17:07, 28 January 2020 (UTC)
  •   Support Per the essay, one of the most thought out rationale ever for a GR application. They have been very active in crosswiki work with considerable amount of good reverts. Have experience with rollback tools, know when to ask for help, meet my expectations as a GR.--Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 17:08, 28 January 2020 (UTC)
  •   Support. Sure. Very helpful, active user. No reason for opposing. —Sgd. Hasley 17:17, 28 January 2020 (UTC)
  •   Support On a trust level, rollbacker on multiple projects and admin on mediawiki. On an activity level, he is one of the most active members of the SWMT and easily accessible on IRC. There is a steep learning curve to crosswiki vandalism but Masum has demonstrated that what he hasn't learned, he is willing to learn. Only thing stopping me from a strong support is that Masum can come across too eager sometimes, essay above being an example. :P ~riley (talk) 17:21, 28 January 2020 (UTC)
  •   Support Pleasant, helpful and very active user. – Sk4mp talk 17:33, 28 January 2020 (UTC)
  •   Question: : In the last 3 months, you have been warned or questioned on use of rollback/undo. Most recently in you December 2019, November 2019 and again in November 2019, all of these warnings are less than 2 months old. There is also this warning from November 2019 where you rolledback an IPs good edits because " I just joined SMWT today and I have zero experience in small-wiki patrolling." and this from December 2019, which seems to indicate a trend of well meaning but careless and over eager behavior. How and what do you plan to do to be more diligent when using rollback, should you be granted global rollback? Praxidicae (talk) 17:33, 28 January 2020 (UTC)
Also to add, while I generally would not care about rollback on most local levels, global rollback often happens in communities without very active editors. Careless and mistaken rollbacks of good edits like those that I pointed out above can be highly problematic on low participation communities. Praxidicae (talk) 17:36, 28 January 2020 (UTC)
Yes, as you said, I have made those mistakes and I take full responsibility for them.
  1. Regarding the betawikiversity incident, I acknowledge that I reverted an IP's good edits. It was a good faith revert, I thought it was vandalism. As I said back then, I joined SWMT that day and knew literally nothing of crosswiki patrolling and vandalism in other languages as I never had any experience in patrolling RC outside of English Wikipedia. I never had any SWMT mentor. Fortunately the admin who warned me was a nice person and I took their advice and did not repeat my mistakes.
  2. Regarding [1], the IP vandal in question was a LTA. I was too inexperienced back then, I didn't know how to deal with LTAs. I recall that the IP was copy-pasting content from somewhere to the existing pages and their associated talk pages. Most talk pages didn't exist before which means the IP created those talk pages. I admit it was my fault for not checking the edits properly and missing the "Talk" prefix from the page title. I believe I have learned from that incident and did not repeat it again.
  3. As for [2], I can only say it was my inability to assess the edit.
  4. With regards to [3] and [4], as I said above, I did not have enough experience dealing with LTAs back then, I knew nothing of their behavior. I didn't realize that I was adding more numbers to revisions to revdel while making myself a target. It would have been helpful for me and other patrollers if there were some kind of guide for new crosswiki patrollers. If I missed any guide like that, please pardon me. Hopefully Meta:Admin handbook will be implemented soon (currently a proposed guideline), I have found it very helpful for new patrollers as well as for experienced ones. Although Meta itself is not a content project, it is a home of LTAs, everyday I get to see new type of LTAs. I would not expect one to be familiar with all of them.
I can not erase my past but I can learn from it. I believe I learned from the mistakes I made and will continue to improve myself. I have been more careful lately on what to revert or not, asking others if I am unsure. As you might have known, I am active on IRC during my SWMT activity, trying to learn from other experienced patrollers. If I see a possible vandalism in other languages but have doubts, I reach out to other people who know the language and ask for their advice and help. Masum Reza📞 18:40, 28 January 2020 (UTC)
  •   Oppose Thank you for your response. We all make mistakes, that's certainly true. However at this time I think you lack the experience and maturity for any actual global permissions, particularly rollback. It was less than 60 days ago that you said I just joined SMWT today and I have zero experience in small-wiki patrolling. but continued making the same mistakes until just a few weeks ago. And though I left out several other examples of issues with your reverting/rollback, they are all far too recent to demonstrate the level of caution and as I said earlier, maturity necessary for this permission. I would like to see you demonstrate a thoughtfulness when dealing in areas you are inexperienced in, rather than just jumping in head first. Come back in a few months without any major issues. Praxidicae (talk) 18:51, 28 January 2020 (UTC)
  •   Oppose, unfortunately. Active, experienced in reverting cross-project vandalism, but I do not believe they meet the required level of trust/maturity and the necessity for global rollbackers to know when to stop (as in, not making an action) and ask for help or advice. Thank you for volunteering, Vermont (talk) 02:28, 29 January 2020 (UTC)
  •   Oppose per Vermont, sorry. Minorax (talk) 04:00, 29 January 2020 (UTC)
  • Yeah! I do understand the above concerns and that's fair enough. I see, he is quite active and somehow i trust him. •   Support, Sure, As I can see that they have rollbacker rights on 11 wikis already. We all make mistakes and realization of those mistakes erases the harm done by those mistakes. We can definetly expect that they will use these rights wisely. QueerEcofeminist "cite! even if you fight"!!! [they/them/their] 01:51, 30 January 2020 (UTC)
  •   Neutral I don't sure. Did you requested GR because problem about Thai wikipedia's abuse filter? (1 2) however, I am ready to support when you have more experience in next time. --Geonuch (talk) 06:09, 30 January 2020 (UTC)
@Geonuch: No, it is not just thwiki. Abuse filter sometimes warns and even disallows me from reverting on mid sized wikis (small wikis don't usually have abuse filters). An example would be es.wikinews where I could not blank a spam page. I have countless other examples, not just two, but I can not provide more evidence at this moment as I do not keep track of wikis where abuse filters blocks me. But I do remember that I have shared that experience with other SWMT members. I am myself not interested in the rollback right in GR toolset as it can be replicated easily using global.js. The effects of just having autopatrol right is far greater than it really is. (hint: some filters that prevent other users from editing someone else's userpage often have autopatrol exemption). I believe I have already explained my situation at User:Masumrezarock100/GR application essay, how I will use this right and other rights included in the GR toolset. •   Support sure. Active SWMT member. Mistakes can always happen. However, the user should not make these mistakes permanently. Even if it does this all the time, it will be blocked on one of the local wikis. I think the user is experienced enough to draw conclusions from his mistakes. :)--Turkmen talk 11:20, 30 January 2020 (UTC)
  •   Comment The nominated user engages in revert wars with vandals and LTAs despite requests to not do so, and has these actions crosswiki. GR needs to be able to respect each local community's cultures and not believe that they know what is best or that it should be that person's PoV. In well-established communities one has to let local communities manage their stuff, their way, and sometimes a GR just has to keep out of the way, right out of the way (most things are hardly ever that urgent). This user has not been good in restraint in that area. So my advice is be more respectful and restrained in that area; it is not the role of a GR to be involved with vandals and LTAs in street battles. When a person without rights is targeted crosswiki by LTAs that person is doing it wrong and is feeding the trolls. (Addendum: I have noted the actions of the user directly with the user both here onwiki, and in IRC channel trying to request mitigation of behaviour.)  — billinghurst sDrewth 21:10, 30 January 2020 (UTC)
  •   Oppose for now. Usually I don't oppose GR applications, but I am convinced what Praxidicae, Vermont and billinghurst pointed out. Also I'd like to add that GR is not a way to get rollback on big/mid sized wikis, as the user mentioned in their application. Those wiki's have their own policy and guidelines for rollbackers and one should follow that. IMHO one should patrol a wiki when they know the language or it's clear case vandalism. I'll be very happy to support this in future when there's no red flags. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 04:02, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
  •   Neutral For now. With you I see a user who is eager to help, has an excellent edit matrix, and has done well on the wiki that you are a sysop of. However I also see you as one who is a bit immature and young (in terms of experience and maturity), and I think the concerns raised by other users are valid. I would encourage you to continue your work and try again in some time, but good work otherwise. Leaderboard (talk) 04:13, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
  •   Oppose Sorry, not now --𐐎ℹ𝕜ⅈ𝕭𝒂𝕪ⅇ𝕣 👤💬 08:38, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
  •   Support Good matrix that end not really well, I keep saying this line "careful on other language wiki" or paraphrasing in similar sentence. But hey, we have benefit of the doubt, so again with cliche words "Why not?", does GR can do big damage? Yes obviously, with de facto delete suppress redirect, but it's not like we can't fix it. Just remember, this user can learn, and I am sure this user will learn how to do things correctly in the future, I just don't want to kick new user who came to SWMT and make them discouraged from helping SWMT, all help is valuable. Just be a bit more careful in the future and learn from much more experienced SWMT members about what to do and what not to do. If you have question and doubts you can always ask them.--AldnonymousBicara? 09:17, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

  • Overall I'd lean on the side of supporting this application. While there have been some concern with the candidate's reverts, all the ones that I see from the last month are fine, and most of the issues are from when they first started with the SWMT. That said, the concerns are legitimate, and I would advise the candidate to be open to learning further how cross-wiki countervandalism is done, and to continue to be courteous when receiving constructive criticism. – Ajraddatz (talk) 19:18, 2 February 2020 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Rocki01

I have a global block for reasons I do not understand. I use wikiversity for my classes at the University of North Carolina. My students comb through the Federal Writer's Project and create wiki sites for people largely forgotten by the public record. Global IP block exempt for theparchmentpaper21

Hello. I have attempted to be an active editor. I made an edit under Grafton98, I believe that is the username, which was sourced, to the Heavy Metal music Wikipedia page, which they kept up even after they blocked that account, because I had followed all the rules I needed to in instituting that addition. They blocked me for being the "sockpuppet" account for Dcasey98, an account I had created and edit-warred on more than a year ago at least, and an account that I forgot the password for a long time ago. Since then, an anonymous IP address on that page with no prior edit history, deleted the sourced addition, and I'm not pleased about it, and I wonder how they can get away with that. I am very frustrated that the only reasoning being given for my IP address, user agent, and every subsequent account I make being targeted with block after block, is that they are sockpuppets of an account I made more than a year ago, and haven't been an active editor on. These blocks have nothing to do with my conduct as an editor. I am appealing that the global IP block be removed, as well as the block on either this, or my previous account, Grafton98. Thanks. --theparchmentpaper21 (talk) 03:57, 14 February 2020 (UTC)

Global rename for فيصل

Not ending before 5 February 2020 11:05 UTC

Hello, I'm an editor and sysop in ar.wiki (my home wiki), I was a global rename in May 2018, but I was inactive for almost 2 months then I decided to remove my global rename, and I will be back when I will be active, and now I'm active (as I graduated from the university). Anyway, we are on ar.wiki suffer from user names that violates our local username policy, in this time we have only 3 GR, and one of them is not active, and I think we need more GR to deal with the renaming accounts. so having the ability to perform these renames would enhance my ability to preform this work and help in it. I read Global rename policy, and Global renamers (I will focus essentially on requests on Arabic Wikipedia) so since I'm available on a daily basis, and there doesn't seem to be a reason that would prevent me from participating daily for the time being. Global rename for Justlettersandnumbers

Not ending before 16 February 2020 18:54 UTC

I've been an admin on en.wp for about eighteen months. I sometimes block an account for a username that's against our local policy; when the blocked user makes a reasonable request for a rename, I'd like to be able to perform it rather than wait for a colleague to do so. I have no experience of account renaming, and – if this approved – no intention of using the permission on any other Wikimedia project in the foreseeable future. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:54, 2 February 2020 (UTC)

  •   Question: Should your application be successful, would you be interested in assisting at en:WP:CHUS or at similar block cases from other administrators? --Kostas20142 (talk) 00:12, 3 February 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for asking, Kostas20142! Yes, I should have made clear that once I get the hang of things, I would indeed expect to deal with similar cases where other admins have blocked, and possibly also become active at WP:CHUS. •   Support Notwithstanding the question above, after so many enwp sysop GR requests it had compelled me to support any sysop in good standing from enwp for this right. I say once again that this should be bundled in sysop toolkit for enwp sysop (and maybe arwp too) to save us time here. Rants aside, clearly there is a need and one more doesn't hurt. Requests for other global permissions

remove global OTRS member for Rhododendrites

Thanks, --Krd 14:28, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

Done. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 14:49, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
@Krd and MarcoAurelio: Eh? Inactivity, I presume? How strange to not receive any sort of notice/information/warning and to see a request to remove rights with no explanation...? Doesn't seem like a great process, there. I initially requested the rights because I'm relatively often interacting with people donating media to Commons and it would be helpful to be able to check on tickets. I also figured I'd have time to help out with other tickets from time to time. When I got access, I was quickly taken aback by how unintuitive the interface is and have not had the time to learn a new complicated system just to volunteer more time. (I've also not had any of those commons uploads that I needed to check on). So removing my rights isn't terribly consequential, but without abuse I don't know what good it would do to remove them given someone like me is even less likely to be able to volunteer with additional hurdles put in place... meh. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 18:13, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

continue global interface admin billinghurst

I have had global edit interface rights for the past year, and have been using it (lightly) in numbers of places through the year, fixes and implementation of gadgets in occasional requests. I would see that I would continue to undertake a similar use of rights in 2020 as I have this year.  — billinghurst sDrewth 21:25, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

Global interface editor for Sophivorus

Not ending before 14 February 2020 22:41 UTC

Hi! I'd like to request a renewal of my global-interface-editor permission. The main reason is because I maintain the ProveIt gadget on 40+ wikis. I haven't done many changes in the last few months but I have done several changes earlier in 2019 and I plan to do more in 2020. Furthremore, I'm working on other scripts that I hope to be able to spread to other wikis and promote to gadgets if the communities agree. Thanks! Sophivorus (talk) 22:41, 9 February 2020 (UTC)
