Requests for global rollback permissions

Global rollback for Kirito

The following request is closed.
Not ending before 9 September 2018 00:17 UTC

I want to introduce myself to be a global rollback. I have several years in wikimedia projects, I am an active crosswiki, I am looking for vandalism and spam in #cvn-sw and others channels, too I follow recent changes of enoughs wikis. I have a lot of experience in the fight against vandalism, I am rollbacker in several wikis. Trusting in my experience as a rollbacker and that I have gradually expanded my editions in wikis, I think I can be very helpful in the user group. Irwin talk2me 00:17, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

  •   Oppose Edited 11 wikis so far, while global rollback gives access to rollback on all Wikimedia projects, I think it's best to request local rollback if you intend to work on those wikis particularly, otherwise my opinion is to join SWMT and come back later after some activity. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 16:14, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

However, the user has been contributing a total of 8 wikis and 95% of this is in main wiki. Unfortunately, I couldn't see enough cross-activity. Hello, My home wiki is bh.wikipedia where I am one of the two admins (and the only active at present). Formerly, I have served hi.wikipedia too, as admin, and declined to continue because I was a little bit busy at that time. As recently I have been more active again and hope I can utilize my experience on hiwiki and bhwiki to serve various projects which are in Indic languages, other small wikies and projects with no local admins.

Languages – bho-N, hi-4, en-2, hif-2, sa-2, mai-1, ne-1, ur-1

Since, I can manage much time on wiki activities – rejoining SWMT too. Hope, I can serve with these responsibilities. --SM7--talk-- 20:33, 16 September 2018 (UTC)

Requests for global IP block exemption

Global IP block exempt for Rockchalk717

I currently only edit on my cellphone. I've been editing from my cellphone for about a year now without any issues. This morning my IP address was placed on a global block. It was impacted by the block for IP range 2607:FB90:0:0:0:0:0:0/32, so unfortunately I cannot edit anymore because of this block. My account personally has never committed vandalism, additionally I have never committed vandalism under any IP address I used before I created an account. So I would like an exemption from this global block. Thanks, --Rockchalk717 (talk) 20:15, 28 August 2018 (UTC)

The block apparently is not an issue anymore however this is not the first time I've run into an issue like this and I would like to keep ny request open.--Rockchalk717 (talk) 19:40, 29 August 2018 (UTC)
The block affected for a moment also logged in users. It was soon switched to affect only anonymous users. I think this can be closed as not done. Stryn (talk) 09:37, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Droigheann

Hi, I use NordVPN and I find that virtually all their IPs are blocked (I don't have a "dedicated IP address" so I get a different one each time I switch on my laptop). I think I'm basically an unproblematic user, so I'd like to ask for a global exception for my account. I'm a "wikisloth" and usually only do minor things like correcting typos or reverting vandalisms when I come across them, but having to log out of the VPN for a minor edit of this sort and then log in again is sort of disincentivising to do such an edit at all. (That said, if you decide you have no time to waste by checking out whether a wikisloth is really unproblematic, I won't blame you and just carry on the way I do now). Thanks, --Droigheann (talk) 23:35, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for EniPort

I would like to ask a Global Exception for all wikis for my account. I am a frequent traveller, I spend a lot of time in hotels and lounges where it can be difficult to establish a stable connection on the different WiFi connections. The VPN that I use (Le VPN) is banned on Wikipedia. I have also just discovered that my mobile service provider's (Three UK) certain IP range (e.g.92.40.248.0/23) are also blocked.

I have been an editor of Wikipedia for over 7 years; I am an OTRS member, bureaucrat and member of Arbitration Committee in the Hungarian Project. I use Wikipedia responsibly, am aware of the privacy expectations of Wikimedia wikis, and have a decent understanding of account security: I use a secure operating system, only install legal applications and use strong unique passwords.

Global IP block exempt for Jeroen N

Hi, I would like to request a global IP block exempt for the same reason as Droigheann (see above): I also use NordVPN, for privacy and security reasons, and often find myself unable to edit most wikis. I have a local exemption on the Dutch Wikipedia (my home wiki), but I occassionally want to do a minor edit on other wikis, mostly the English Wikipedia. Because I have to turn off VPN to do this, I often end up not making the edit. (I have tried letting Wikipedia/Wikimedia bypass VPN, but I cannot for the life of me get this to work.) Global rename for 331dot

The following request is closed.
Not ending before 22 September 2018 21:40 UTC
Hello. I would like to request the global rename permission. Since I was granted admin powers on the English Wikipedia a little over 5 months ago, I have spent much time involved in reviewing unblock requests, many of which involve requests to change the username. It was suggested to me that it would be helpful for me to be able to rename and unblock without sending a user to someone else or waiting for someone with rename to come by. Thanks for your consideration. 331dot (talk) 21:40, 8 September 2018 (UTC)
  •   Support I know there is a bit of discontent among some meta users with en.wiki admins requesting it for this reason, but it is a legitimate need, and 331dot is one of our most active admins in unblocks and in blocking for usernames. I got this originally to help with unblocking: I’m less active there now than I was 6 months ago (my admin interests drift depending on what’s going on in life) but it was very helpful, and I eventually moved to helping out with renames in the global queue, because they tend to be pretty straightforward and I try to help out when I can. I can’t think of an admin on en who could make better use of this than 331dot, and I was actually about to encourage them to apply for it. Glad they beat me   TonyBallioni (talk) 22:21, 8 September 2018 (UTC)
  •   Support Fully trustworthy, has quickly become a regular at reviewing unblock requests at en.wiki, and the ability to rename at the same time really has helped keep the global rename queues down and simplify things for username-blocked editors since it's been available to admins. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 06:00, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
  •   Support Very active at UAA + unblock requests, where the right can help. ‐‐1997kB (talk) 13:17, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
  •   Support Trusted editor –Ammarpad (talk) 15:42, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
  • Can't a link to Special:GlobalRenameRequest or SRUC to be added on the unblock template or a local help page? it's very inefficient every enwiki admin have to request this permission to do their work, there are lots of users who could rename the user faster and it'd let any enwiki admin handle the unblock request (as other wikis do). User:Cyberbot I/Requests for unblock report could be modified to say if an account was renamed after being blocked or not. Matiia (talk) 03:03, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
    • That would increase the time it takes to handle requests for unblock, increase inefficiencies, and make it more difficult for new users who we want to be unblocked to actually contribute to the project. Your assessment here is 100% off-base, and you should probably not comment on the processes for a project that you aren't familiar with. TonyBallioni (talk) 05:09, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
      • The only thing off-base here is your comment; please don't be so dismissive when someone has identified a potential problem and offered a solution. The best option would probably for enwiki to ask that people rename their accounts rather than immediately blocking, but save that I don't mind giving this access to trusted enwiki sysops myself. – Ajraddatz (talk) 05:17, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
      • No Wikimedia project is perfect, and plenty of them do something goofy. Including English Wikipedia. --Rschen7754 05:20, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
        • My point is that the proposed solution would have the opposite impact of what is intended, and is based off of assumptions that I don't think are true, and that a user who hasn't ever dealt with them shouldn't be trying to dictate to another project how they handle their issues, especially not in a discussion about an individual rather than a policy, which is what this is supposed to be. TonyBallioni (talk) 05:25, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
          • Getting an outside opinion can be very valuable, in my experience. Especially from someone who is very knowledgeable about how processes work across multiple projects like Matiia. But it's a fair point that this discussion should probably be done somewhere else - this is a bit of a meta tradition which isn't ideal. – Ajraddatz (talk) 05:31, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
    • I'll just add that that would still be a two-step process, and just getting unblocked can be a confusing enough business for new users. The two-step process is only there because admins without global rename (previously non-crats) can't rename, but user interface should not be driven by technical considerations (ex s/w developer speaking) - a single "unblock please, I'd like the name xxxx" is far simpler for the blocked editor. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 06:05, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
    • How enwiki deals with users blocked for their usernames is not within the scope of this page. While I do agree that enwiki does a pretty good job of scaring off newcomers by blocking users based on their usernames immediately as soon as they edit (without warning them; yes, as an admin, even I am majorly annoyed by that), we must remember that such a discussion, while useful, does not belong on this page. We should focus on whether or not 331dot is trustworthy enough for this tool; it is not fair to drag them down based on disagreeable enwiki practices. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 21:00, 12 September 2018 (UTC)

Global editinterface for Holder

The following request is closed.

I'm global sysop since about three years. Sometimes I could help small projects with editing something in their *.js and *.css pages, sometimes I was especially asked for it. Now, with the introduction of interface administrators it seem that global sysops can't edit such pages any more. So I ask for the rights for global editinterface for supporting small Wikimedia projects. I won't use this right on huge projects. Thanks, --Holder (talk) 16:52, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

  • Could you link to some examples? --Rschen7754 00:15, 8 September 2018 (UTC)
An example: [1]. A discussion years ago, where I couldn't help directly: bar:Wikipedia:Stammtisch/Archiv/2010-4#Hauptsaitenywerschrift, a currently question: pfl:Wikipedia:Schdammdisch#OpenStreetMap (the reason why I'm asking for global editinterface right).
Hm, seems to be difficult to find good examples :-). Is there a tool to look for edits per name space in global contributions? --Holder (talk) 04:31, 8 September 2018 (UTC)
I think that's sufficient enough.   Support --Rschen7754 05:02, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

  • You seem to be admin on pflwiki, I assume it would make more sense to get that user right locally. Furthermore, I would suggest to re-add the ability to edit JS/CSS to GS rather than making GS get the truly global editinterface permission. GS are not many in numbers which makes the security concerns in comparison to the steward group appear negligible. --Vogone (talk) 16:10, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

I just added the "new" rights to the GS group, so this request becomes unnecessary. --MF-W 21:30, 12 September 2018 (UTC)

Thank you very much, that's indeed the best solution for me. --Holder (talk) 13:23, 13 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi Matiia, yes, I've read the page already. It's how I found this page, too! I already use 2FA for some applications, so I'm familiar with the process of enabling 2FA. Tetizeraz (talk) 16:40, 16 September 2018 (UTC)
