Global rollback for Максим Підліснюк

Not ending before 12 January 2016 23:45 UTC

I am an active member of SWMT and additional right only would help me. --Максим Підліснюк (talk) 23:45, 7 January 2016 (UTC)[]

  • Hello and thanks for applying! I would like to support your request, but you don't have much experience reverting across language barriers - you certainly have edits on a few wikis, but most of that is from global renaming. I would like to see experience in dealing with a wide variety of small-wiki vandalism first, per the policy on these rights. Ajraddatz (talk) 07:20, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[]
Sorry for my language problems I am a long time member SWOT, but active periods, not constantly, so the list of my edits rollbacks vandalism overlapping global renaming --Максим Підліснюк (talk) 11:41, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[]
Dear Максим, unfortunately constant activity is what the policy requires before global rollback access can be granted. Regards, --Vogone (talk) 14:58, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[]

I find this REALLY dissapointing. --Atcovi (Talk - Contribs) 22:00, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[]
It looks like in this case the rollback tool would rather help the user to not do a mistake, as absence of the "rollback" link would be a signal to double check the situation. Just a comment, though. --Base (talk) 22:04, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[]
License CC-BY-SA 3.0 is withdrawn. In addition, standard tools do not allow you to quickly discern the author or vandal --Максим Підліснюк (talk) 22:08, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[]
Nothing in the global rollback toolkit will tell you that either. Ajraddatz (talk) 22:10, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[]
imo it just goes to show that the user is not well thoughtful about whatever edit he is reverting, since it was the author of the page that blanked the page (think he wanted the page deleted). --Atcovi (Talk - Contribs) 22:12, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[]

Requests for global IP block exemption

Global IP block exempt for Юрій Булка

I would like have the option to edit over Tor. My main motivation is the following. I visit and make edits on Wikimedia projects on near-daily basis. As a consequence, Wikimedia's servers contain quite a detailed log of IP addresses associated with my real-world identity (my account name is my real name). I would like to have the option to edit from my account while remaining location-anonymous to Wikimedia's servers. I want to emphasize that this is not about making any anonymous edits, but only about having an option to not log my IP on the server, while still editing under my real name. --Yury Bulka (talk) 22:34, 2 January 2016 (UTC)[]

Requests for global rename permissions

Global rename for Cyberpower678

Not ending before 12 January 2016 02:23 UTC
Hello. I am a user on the English Wikipedia and can speak both German and English. I primarily do bot work on enwiki, but also volunteer at ACC. For those not familiar with ACC, it is a place for new users to request accounts. ACC volunteers are privy to sensitive information, requiring users to be identified to the foundation. Working there requires me to be quite adept with username policy there, and sometimes, we are asked to change usernames. It would be useful as an ACCer that having someone with the ability to rename would be quite helpful. —cyberpower ChatHello! 02:23, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[]

Global rename for MusikAnimal

Not ending before 12 January 2016 04:32 UTC
See en:Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)#Allow admins to rename users?, which arose due to the not-so-friendly procedure us admins employ when dealing with good-faith username violations. I am an admin on enwiki and run into this scenario quite a bit. We may try to send them to en:Wikipedia:Changing username, Special:GlobalRenameRequest, or perform a soft-block as necessary. Especially in the latter case, being able to do the rename myself would make the process much easier for the newcomer, and avoid all the scary templates, walls of text, and exposing of bureaucracy involved with the project -- when all they wanted to do was make some simple contributions but were unaware their username was an issue. They could simply tell me what they wanted to change it to and I'd do it right there and then, barring any concerns with the new username, and won't need to block the account at all. If granted this meta right, I'd primarily utilize it for the aforementioned use case, but being a backlog hater I'm sure I'd make my way here and at en:WP:CHUS to process requests. I realize username policy may vary wiki to wiki, but I suspect I could get away with using common sense. If they opt to go with a foreign language username (albeit discouraged for an English language project), I would be sure that the translation doesn't imply something inappropriate. Many thanks — MusikAnimal talk 04:32, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[]

Their admin work on enwiki is simply prolific, and I'm happy to see them take on more responsibility. By the way, MusikAnimal, you can always pass off rename requests made in an unfamiliar language to another global renamer if you don't feel confident in processing the request, and you're not required to know all local username policies. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 16:52, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[]

Global abusefilter-helper for MusikAnimal

This will make my second global rights request in a week's time, but the timing is purely coincidence :) Right now I've been working on a bot task that monitors edit filters and reports changes to a watchable page. Per request I now have this running on the Portuguese Wikipedia, and likely will be adding it to the French Wikipedia and possibly others. For this purpose I don't actually need to see pattern (regex) of private filters, as the bot doesn't track that, but it does track all other changes that I'm currently unable to verify is being done correctly. I am an edit filter manager on enwiki which is what spawned this effort. Additionally, I'm currently helping with a case of cross-wiki abuse, communicating with a Commons edit filter manager via the enwiki edit filter mailing list. Being able to see details/logs over on Commons just means I can further assist with this matter. Regards — MusikAnimal talk 05:37, 2 January 2016 (UTC)[]

As for asking many rights at once, IMO it is OK so as long as a) one does clearly illustrate an use case and suitability for each and b) one has enough time avaliable for everything.Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 08:57, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[]
  • Is there a specific timeframe during which you will need these permissions? Ajraddatz (talk) 09:26, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[]
For the bot task, yes, but not sure how long that would be. I'm sort of asking around if other wikis are interested, in the hopes it will help them as much as it's helping us on enwiki. The i18n work is quite fun, but I digress. In regards to working with Techman, this is not the first cross-wiki abuse situation I have ran into, and surely not the last. Having the read-only rights will certainly assist with these situations moving forward — MusikAnimal talk 19:53, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[]

Access to Abuse filter helpers global group for Hégésippe Cormier

Hi. The global abuse filters were activated on for a few weeks, after a first community poll (launched by Elfix).

Then, a second community poll (also launched by Elfix) had the following result: the local abusefilter status 'owners' would have the right to ask for an access to Abuse filter helpers global group, with the possible right to read all the global bfilters.

So, as an abusefilter on, I ask to be included in the abuse filter helpers global group. Thanks. Hégésippe | ±Θ± 12:26, 14 January 2016 (UTC)[]

Done The abuse filter helper right has been set on this account. Elfix 14:13, 14 January 2016 (UTC)[]
Thanks Elfix. Hégésippe | ±Θ± 15:34, 14 January 2016 (UTC)[]
That makes no sense. Why must a local RFC allow people to request rights here? --MF-W 15:38, 14 January 2016 (UTC)[]
Please check the mailing-list. Elfix 17:07, 14 January 2016 (UTC)[]
There is nothing there which explains this question. --MF-W 17:24, 14 January 2016 (UTC)[]
Edit conflict. Isn't a global group a bit overkill for (requested) meta-only access? --Vogone (talk) 15:39, 14 January 2016 (UTC)[]
Vogone, if there is a way to let AF managers on wikis in the GAF wikiset with read access to the global filters, this would be better, but I don't think there is any other way right now. Elfix 17:07, 14 January 2016 (UTC)[]
I don't think it would be much of a big deal to get such a local metawiki group created, provided the metawiki users agree. Especially, since frwiki might not be the only wiki demanding read-only access to global abuse filters. --Vogone (talk) 17:16, 14 January 2016 (UTC)[]
  • I have some concerns here: The "voting" about a global right schould be on meta. Shouldn't it? The requestpage on frwiki has been created by Elfix and Elfix has immediataly granted there right in this request here. This is imho a conflict of interest and the right has been granted out of process. --Steinsplitter (talk) 15:56, 14 January 2016 (UTC)[]
I think the rationale is the same as there, among other possible locations. Elfix 17:24, 14 January 2016 (UTC)[]
  • I would also like to direct your attention to the rules in this section. It says "The request will be approved if consensus to do so exists after a short period of consideration. A steward will review the request." The request was placed at 12:26 UTC and you marked it as done at 14:13 UTC, less than two hours later. That's a VERY short period of time I'd say, certainly given that you are closely involved with the community and request itself. It is always better to be on the safe side and wait or let others do the request, as there can always be comments, such as in this case. This is regardless of any explanation on the mailing list, as stewards should work transparently and the community should always have a chance to weigh in. • As a general principle, if communities allow to be included into GAF wikis then we should allow their insiders to join the global group. --Vituzzu (talk) 21:24, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[]
@Vituzzu: Well, but the scope of this group is slightly different ("helpers") and the group provides way more access than needed. What effect does e.g. an itwiki filter have on frwiki? None. If we agree on providing these users access to GAF filters additionally, we should be adding a new local group on meta for this purpose instead, in my opinion. --Vogone (talk) 01:14, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[]
Assuming we're dealing with wise and responsible people we don't need separate groups imho. --Vituzzu (talk) 17:52, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[]
After such a local meta group is created we will use it. But until this happens we have no other option except to add users to a global group. Ruslik (talk) 18:59, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[]
