Global sysop for Restu20

Not ending before 16 November 2015 08:22 UTC

Hi everyone! I'm a quite active member of the SWMT, so the global sysop tools would be very useful to my work in small wikis. Regards. Restu20 08:22, 2 November 2015 (UTC)

  • Support - I've looked over Restu20's global contributions, and I see a pattern of useful global activity over a long period of time. All of the contributions I checked looked good, and his sysop experience on itwiki is an added bonus. Thanks for volunteering :-) Ajraddatz (talk) 08:36, 2 November 2015 (UTC)

Global sysop for Alan

Not ending before 19 November 2015 10:33 UTC

Hi all!

Having overcome the serious personal problems that I have lived in recent months, I think am able to say and confirm that I return to being active. Most of you already know me, usually I working as sysop in Commons, in the fight against cross-wiki vandalism and hunting spambots, I'm GR and until July was also GS, I resigned this permission and Global Renamer due to the problems mentioned at the beginning, not I knew how many time was going to be out and I never wanted to collecting flags. I promised to return and here I am, thankfully :-).

I put myself again available to the community and scrutiny again to see if they trust me as GS.

Thank you. Alan (talk) 10:33, 5 November 2015 (UTC)

Global rename for Supdiop

Not ending before 23 November 2015 21:47 UTC

I am an active editor on English Wikipedia. I have local rollback and pending changes reviewer rights. I have read and understood the global rename policy. I don't have sysop right on any of the wikimedia projects but I am sure I will make a good use of this tool. Thank you - Supdiop (talk) 21:47, 9 November 2015 (UTC)

  •   Oppose - Seems to have found out about global renamers today [1]. Account of 8 months, very little interwiki activity, no bureaucrat or sysop experience, no rename experience. -- Taketa (talk) 22:50, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
FYI, I know about global renamers from many months. Thank you - Supdiop (talk) 23:44, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
  •   Oppose Only two contributions on enwp username changing page as far as I can see. One was his own request and the other one is pointed above by Taketa. Moreover, it seems to be an attempt of hat collecting. ~ Nahid Talk 22:58, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
I want to participate in renaming process. I have that page in my watchlist. I always keep an eye on requests and see how they are handled. I know when to accept and when to decline a request. Thank you. - Supdiop (talk) 23:41, 9 November 2015 (UTC)
  •   Oppose Sorry, simply watching the username change page is not enough, because anybody can lie and claim they frequently monitor a page. If you would like to be a global renamer, you must actually be active in the username change process. I got my start clerking the w:en:WP:CHUS and w:en:WP:CHUU pages, and it took more than a year of slowly acquiring experience before someone suggested I nominate myself. (And to be very honest, when I started clerking, I had no idea that someday I would be the one actually performing the renames) --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 03:08, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
Also per NahidSultan, hat collecting is very evident here. Wikimedia is not WikiHats Inc. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 03:10, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
How can I be active at that page without having this right? I am asking this right to assist the renaming process. - Supdiop (talk) 07:56, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
I just explained in my oppose statement how I was involved in the rename process without having the global renamer user right. I suggest you re-read my oppose statement carefully. --I am k6ka Talk to me! See what I have done 12:23, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

Global interface editor for Ochilov

Hi! Wikimedian since 2014, helping with building truly international community in Wikimedia. TA in 5 wikis, sysop in two wikis. Need this right to import translations in small international wikis in constructed languages and just small wikis. Fare with rules and how-to-import and how to edit MediaWiki namespace, previously done it in wm2016. --Ochilov (talk) 18:24, 25 November 2015 (UTC)

  •   SupportKotika (talk) 18:17, 26 November 2015 (UTC)
  •   Oppose doing translations is outside of global interface editor's scope. Apart from that: a good knowledge about mediawiki and x-wiki experience is required. --Steinsplitter (talk) 11:06, 26 November 2015 (UTC)
    • @Steinsplitter:, but I have a good knowledge about mediawiki as well as I have x-wiki experience. Translations are not completely outside of interface editor's scope, because one have to speak languages of the wikis where he/she will be working at, to verify the interface translations as appropriate. I know that it is just importing interface translations from other wikis and translatewiki.net (I am translator there as well), but language knowledge is really helpful because you can see some mistakes. --Ochilov (talk) 11:18, 26 November 2015 (UTC)
Should not interface translations be done in translatewiki? Ruslik (talk) 12:35, 26 November 2015 (UTC)
@Ruslik0:, it is true but, firstly they are not imported to many wikis (uzwiki, for example, secondly i am going to check them for languages which I know. So, my main task will be importing translations of interface in small or not active wikis and international wikis (Ido, etc.). --Ochilov (talk) 14:10, 26 November 2015 (UTC)
What exactly is not imported? It is a trivial matter to have interface translations imported from TWN even if you are setting your own wiki outside of Wikimedia so it sounds strange. Perhaps you are speaking about some messages which are not available on TWN as custom sidebar items (what you (and me for other languages) were translating on wm2016), gadgets' descriptions (if in those small wikis they have gadgets at all), etc., but then can you measure how big is the task? What exactly projects, what exactly messages (at least several examples from each so that the size of the task could be grasped)? Also could you estimate how much time you will need for finishing the task? I am sorry for so many questions but the rationale looks too vague for me even though I know that I can trust your edits in general. --Base (talk) 19:46, 26 November 2015 (UTC)
Base, for example, sidebar translations in uzwiki are not imported at all. --Ochilov (talk) 01:31, 27 November 2015 (UTC)

  •   Oppose per Steinsplitter. If you want to run under a different rationale, be my guest. But the stated rationale is not acceptable.--Jasper Deng (talk) 22:35, 26 November 2015 (UTC)
Jasper Deng, why importing interface translations in small wikis is not acceptable rationale? --Ochilov (talk) 01:33, 27 November 2015 (UTC)

  • "Since users in this group can seriously disrupt Wikimedia wikis if used incorrectly, the interface editor permission is only assigned to users who have a strong track record in maintaining code and scripts." - okay, I think I am not so familiar with code and scipts maintaining. I think I am just going to make a .doc file with interface translations fro some wikis and ask steward or Global sysop to put them there. If it can be done, count it as a withdraw. --Ochilov (talk) 10:08, 27 November 2015 (UTC)
  • Oppose. This is outside the scope of this right. If you want to translate something, please, do this on the translatewiki. In rare cases when this is not possible apply for local sysop permission. Ruslik (talk) 15:59, 27 November 2015 (UTC)
    • Ruslik0, translations are already done! I just want them to be imported to small wikis. I am going to withdraw if there is global admin or steward, whom I can send Microsoft Excel file with what to import and where. --Ochilov (talk) 16:47, 27 November 2015 (UTC)
      • As far I know, translations are regularly getting updated from Translatwiki.net. Assuming you translated there, I would suggest waiting for a bit. Therefore I'm inclined to oppose this request. --Wiki13 talk 22:24, 27 November 2015 (UTC)

  • Oppose The request does not demonstrate a need for this right. Also in the replies to other comments this was not credibly shown; on the contrary it seems like the requester doesn't know the real situation regarding what he wants to do at all. --MF-W 01:37, 28 November 2015 (UTC)
  •   Oppose Rationale for wanting the tools is invalid. Jianhui67 talkcontribs 01:45, 28 November 2015 (UTC)
  •   Request withdrawn per Wiki13, I will wait when my translations in translatewiki.net will be updated. --Ochilov (talk) 07:24, 28 November 2015 (UTC)
