Requests for global rollback permissions

Global rollback for Atcovi

Hey all! I'm Atcovi, and today I'd like to request for the right of global rollback. For anyone who knows about my checkered past, I feel like I have grown out of it. I feel like I'm out of my troubled past here on Wikimedia, and I have realized my mistakes. I know how to use rollback, since I've used it at Wikibooks, where I'm a sysop and editor at. I'm also a rollbacker on Simple Wiktionary. I also think I've showed a heavy use of rollback as well, being currently active in SWMT work. It's also pretty annoying having to clash with someone, or when someone else has beat me to a revert (we all know that feeling). I also think that this right isn't necessarily a big deal, just one press of a button. I know what vandalism/spam/unconstructive edits are, and can easily identify them. Thank you. --Atcovi (talk) 22:54, 26 March 2015 (UTC)

  • Strong oppose Goldenburg111 alias Draubb alias Aaqib A. and who remembers the other names he used certainly has not improved his behaviour. Whenever I see him on the SWMT or stewards channel, he makes less than clueful comments unfortunately. Also a very weird sentence in the rationale about the feeling that someone reverted faster than oneself - this still happens to people who have rollback rights, and it's anyway not a feeling to deplore (oh no, other people are active too?!) --MF-W 15:11, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
  • (Edit conflict.) First of all, I fully agree Atcovi has improved a lot and now certainly can be called a serious and productive editor. Yet, I am not sure Atcovi's crossactivity, and thus also his use of rollback, suffices in any way. I know we have thrown away all activity requirements for global right applicants recently, but the question is if we really want this. I would be happy to support though, if Atcovi re-applied after a longer period of continuous and good SWMT activity. Vogone (talk) 15:13, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
  •   Support, I still think that giving as second chance to every user who made mistake long time ago is a good practice for m:AGF, look at Atcovi after he became Wikibooks Sysop he's been very active blocking spammer, his crosswiki activity this few month also very good for me ( His theil index is 0.62), again, about concern like sockpuppeting it was 2 years ago, fairly a long time for me, he repenting and become a reformed user, he's also honest and ask for apology about that matters from long time ago, i'd like to see further activity from this user as Global Rollbacker.--AldNonymousBicara? 04:05, 31 March 2015 (UTC)

    Croswikiness.--AldNonymousBicara? 14:26, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
And in which way is this connected to his (heavy) use of undo across multiple projects? Looking at his CA, it rather seems to me as if the high number of homewikis is the reason for the low index. Vogone (talk) 14:50, 31 March 2015 (UTC)

Global rollback for Mdann52

The following request is closed. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Hey all! I've done various cross-wiki anti-vandalism work in the past, including semi-activeness on the SWMT (I'm not an official member, although I try and help out when I can). I'm also a member of OTRS, which has emails sent in for various projects reporting vandalism and the like, so I get some cross-wiki involvement in that reguard too. If I get granted this right, I probably will become more active cross-wiki, and hope the SWMT will be able to take up more of my time once I have the freedom after my next batch of exams. Also, I feel the other rights that are bundled in with this (mainly suppressredirect) would be useful in my work in a few places. Thanks in advance, Mdann52 (talk) 11:57, 4 April 2015 (UTC)

  •   Neutral I don't see heavy use of reverts globally and your activity is rather concentrated in English Wikipedia and Commons. Perhaps try to stay active in SWMT and I will definitely support when I see improvements in your activity. Nevertheless, you're a trusted and productive member of the community. Create a user page here as well. Jianhui67 talkcontribs 12:04, 4 April 2015 (UTC)
  •   Oppose I didn't find any reverts from you in other than in few of big wikis. You should do more cross-wiki vandalism patroller and then apply again. --Stryn (talk) 12:13, 4 April 2015 (UTC)

Global rollback for !dea4u

Hi, I would like to apply as a global rollbacker to assist fellow wikimedians. I notice lot of vandalism works going on different wikis & hence wish to preserve the wiki culture. Thanks for your consideration.( !dea4u  08:14, 17 April 2015 (UTC))

    • Thank you all for sharing heavenly insight, Oh; i forgot Wikipedia is owned by guys from rich & developed country named America. Who always wants things to be under their control & suppress others. Lot of Discrimination. When earlier, users told me i ignored them about this, But now it's me. How will you guys let a guy from poor developing country to flourish or establish here in Wiki. It was my bad experience, I wasted my precious time here. Bad Luck. Kudos to you guys. You Won. ( !dea4u  04:14, 18 April 2015 (UTC))
      • You'll be interested to know that only one of the people who has voted here is from America; the rest are from all around the world. You are not being discriminated against for being from a developing country, people are raising concerns with a lack of cross-wiki experience. If you look through the archives of this page, you will find all sorts of requests being declined for that reason - from requestees that were born in developed countries and not. You haven't wasted your time here; if you become involved with the SWMT and become active globally, there will be no reason why you cannot be a global rollbacker. But please don't throw around accusations of discrimination when that is clearly not happening here. Regards, Ajraddatz (talk) 04:21, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
@!dea4u: Stop that drunk comment, I am from Indonesia, South East Asia, a developing country, I am superbly offended when you are saying I am "one of those" who like discriminate people, rather than counter criticizing us, why don't you give us the prove of your crosswiki contributions?--AldNonymousBicara? 04:39, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
Indeed. I agree with Ajraddatz and Aldnonymous. We are not here to discriminate people. We are here to give opinions. We have nothing against you as an editor as we are just pointing out why you are not qualified to be a global rollbacker now due to your insufficient crosswiki experience. I suggest you retract your comments. Jianhui67 talkcontribs 04:48, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
@!dea4u: You do not need the right to revert vandalism, and nobody is discouraging you from doing so. Have you read the criteria for the granting of global rollbacker? This is a reactive granting of a right where a user demonstrates crosswiki activity in responding to spam and vandalism. The right is not a pro-active granting of the right to someone who wishes or proposes to undertake the activity. The comments above reflect the opinion of your request based upon the policy approved by the community for the granting of the right. The communities where you are active separately grant the right that you are seeking.  — billinghurst sDrewth 07:32, 18 April 2015 (UTC) (another not from America)
  •   Support! Don't let this request get you down, you can still revert vandalism without this tool, it's only a button! In the meantime, you can use Twinkle. Keep an eye on #cvn-swconnect, and don't give up on anti-vandalism just because of this. There's always a need for vandal fighters! Message me if you have any questions :) Caliburn (talk) 18:15, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
  •   Oppose No cross-wiki experience. --Uğurkenttalk 20:12, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
  • I urge everyone to stop opposing, it is obvious that this request will not succeed at this time. In former times it was usual to give advice how to be active in SWMT without GR rights on requests like this, instead of opposing and insulting the requester who is obviously new to global rights requests. --MF-W 23:56, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
I agree with MF-W quite strongly here. While the comments above by the candidate regarding alleged country-discrimination are not good (probably a heated reaction, AGF), this request is obvious at this stage that will not pass and continue opposing when the user has already been told why they is not going to have it is not helping. When voting templates were not allowed here (this is still not a vote) people left comments on the suitability of the candidate or lack of it, something that people seems to forget nowadays, probably me included, just leaving a meaningless template as if that were enough. That practice was much more user friendly. Caliburn's approach is probably what candidates need instead. People is of course free to continue commenting here while this request remains open, but I feel there's no more need to "punish" the candidate this way. They just offered to help, we should not scare them off, specially when we need more help. Thanks. -- M\A 15:19, 19 April 2015 (UTC)
    though also [1] --MF-W 12:38, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
Indeed, I did change my response, to be kinder and more welcoming, and per Marco. :) Caliburn (talk) 15:29, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
  •   Not done No consensus at this time to extend global rollbacker toolset to !dea4u; it is suggested that !dea4u acquire additional cross-wiki experience which would enhance his/her ability to be a successful cross-wiki volunteer who can effectively use the toolset. Thank you for volunteering! -- Avi (talk) 16:31, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

Global rename for Jimmy Xu

Hi, I have been referred here by our bureaucrat Kegns to give a hand with requests posted locally on zhwiki, as well as helping out Chinese speaking users here. I'm not a b'crat anywhere but I believe I'm sufficiently familiar with the relevant policies. Thanks for your consideration. Jimmy Xu (talk) 07:30, 22 March 2015 (UTC)

Global rename for 1989

I would like to participate in user renaming because I would like to help with requests when users may not be available. I am not a sysop or a bureaucrat in any other wiki, but I am a trusted user with 100,000+ edits on multi-language project named Commons, and I do understand the global rename policy. If my request does not pass, I'll make sure to take the advice from opposers so I can have a better image. Thank You. 1989 (talk) 19:32, 4 April 2015 (UTC)

  •   Question: Hi there, can I ask you, do you patrol Rename request on any wikis previously? If yes, on what language? AFAIK you only speak en-n, es-1, and yue-1, but we have so (too many) many en renamer currently.--AldNonymousBicara? 01:11, 5 April 2015 (UTC)
No I don't. On Commons, it doesn't have a user renaming process like it used to as far as I know of. 1989 (talk) 01:25, 5 April 2015 (UTC)
Sorry, but I don't think that I am comfortable with this. I would like to see global renamers have at least sysop access somewhere or be very involved in the rename process (clerks on username change request pages, etc). Ajraddatz (talk) 15:56, 5 April 2015 (UTC)
All your flags on commons (Image-reviewer, filemover, patroller, rollbacker) seem more "content-oriented" than "user-oriented". If there isn't any specific issue, I wonder why you don't ask for a sysop flag there and after 6-18 months, if you are still interested in the "job", you come back here with more experience. Also, your language skills are poor: "Cantonese" knowledge is interesting, but yue-1 is not enough. (about that, on commons only user O has yue-1 and it is almost inactive as a sysop, that's another tiny reason why I would suggest to ask for sysop flag there). --Alexmar983 (talk) 17:55, 5 April 2015 (UTC)
Trijnstel nominated me as an admin about a month ago. It didn't go so well, so I had to end up withdrawing. 1989 (talk) 18:36, 5 April 2015 (UTC)
Ok, I personally think that if a user is not considered "trustworthy" or "ready" to be a sysop from its own "home wiki", at least some "strong" cross-wiki activity should be required if (s)he needs a global flag. G.R. flag was recently given to very "local" sysops but as far as I know there was no doubt at the "local" level of their long-term "experience" in "user-related" competences. In any case: all the best for the future.--Alexmar983 (talk) 19:06, 5 April 2015 (UTC)

Global rename for Jmvkrecords

Hi all wikimedians. After a message from Alexmar983, and consider it, I ask the community to evaluate if I can be a global renamer. This is my second request. My motivation is the same I exposed on the last request. Even if I am a bureaucrat since May 2014, due tu my limited experience renaming users (5 in a couple of months), I consider appropriate to give 2 weeks more for discussion, Jmvkrecords (Intra Talk) 20:42, 24 March 2015 (UTC).

Answer: Hi Vogone. Sorry if my English is so poor, but thank you for asking me. I remember some users were opposed to my candidacy, because I have a short experience renaming accounts. For example, someone said “initial batches of global renamers ought to be highly experienced ones”. I think today is different. Now, there are some experienced users who can provide support to us, the new batch of renamers, dealing with possible issues. Moreover, now I have much more experience as a local sysop and as a local bureaucrat than I did my last request; and I think now is clear that some languages are underrepresented, and I can be helpful answering request in Spanish, French and Portuguese. Best regards, Jmvkrecords (Intra Talk) 01:33, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

Global rename for Keegan

I'm volunteering to assist as a global renamer, I do not hold 'crat flags on any public wiki, only on otrs-wiki. As a volunteer, I'm an administrator, Oversighter, and CheckUser on the English Wikipedia. Globally, I'm an OTRS admin. I've been an English Wikipedia admin for nine years, OS and OTRS admin for six years, CU for for four years.

In my capacity as a community liaison for the Wikimedia Foundation I've become intimately familiar with Global renaming, local renaming policies, and communication with users requesting new names. I would gladly like to help now, and in perpetuity, to help with renaming user accounts. I will not process any request that is related to a direct request or query to me either onwiki, by email, or any other medium, for any reason. Keegan (talk) 10:03, 31 March 2015 (UTC)

Global rename for Steinsplitter

Hello. I would like to apply for global renamer flag to assist the community.

I would like to help german and italian speaking users here and at local request pages. I noticed that there is a little amount global renames from dewiki and commons. I am a admin on commons (with +80000 admin actions) but not a bureaucrat anywhere. I have read and understood all relevant rename policies. Global abusefilter-helper for Xaosflux

Requested so as to access abuse filter data across all projects, working on efficiency tuning primarily on enwiki and preparing to work on a reviewing a bot request to offload abuse filter cycles to post-edit reviews. I have been +sysop on enwiki for 9 years, and was a prior meta +sysop (inactivity on meta). I have no desire to edit filters on other projects directly, thus asking for this read-only group only. Thanks, --xaosflux Talk 01:39, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

Global abusefilter-helper for PhantomTech

I've been working on false positives at en wiki for a bit, I'm also working on a bot that can have some of the filters, particularly LTA related ones, offloaded onto it. Being able to see the private filters would help me deal with the related false positive reports, it would also allow me to have my bot start detecting any of the LTA cases that have private log-only filters setup. Being a global right, I wouldn't mind helping people with issues they were having on other projects if they asked. I should point out that I requested edit filter manager on en here. A lot of the concern raised there seemed to be about me editing filters, and most of the editors who participated in the discussion seemed to be fine with me having a read-only right. Thanks, --PhantomTech (talk) 01:46, 3 April 2015 (UTC)

  • Normally global rights are not granted to circumvent local procedures. Even though it might be a few enwiki users trust you with read-only access, it yet might be favourable if a local solution could be found. Vogone (talk) 03:34, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
(from enwiki) We have begun discussion for an enwiki local abusefilter-helper group, limited responders so far. xaosflux Talk 04:49, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
  • I agree with Vogone, local rights should be requested instead. I find it rather silly that the community wouldn't trust you with access to the filters even if you won't modify them. Ajraddatz (talk) 05:43, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
  •   Oppose This is not abusefilter-helper are for.--AldNonymousBicara? 07:00, 3 April 2015 (UTC)
  •   Oppose per above I'm afraid. This doesn't seem to be a legitimate use for the global right. -FASTILY 09:14, 5 April 2015 (UTC)

Global abusefilter-helper for MoiraMoira

The following request is closed. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

When being active with cross wiki vandals as a global sysop trying to find patterns, modus operandi and names/prhases used I encounter limitations not being able to see filtered edits. I have to ask stewards to view a filter for me via IRC and that is not handy when investigating. So I would be helped with the tool to be able to do my work fighting cross wiki vandals as a global sysop better. Thank you. MoiraMoira (talk) 14:57, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
