Requests for global rollback permissions

Global rollback for Uğurkent

Hello, I'm editor in tr.wiki and tr.wikiquote. I'm trying to prevent copyright and vandalism in 12 local wiki. Thousands article of local wiki, Commons ve others project I'm marking for deletion. Some Turkish wikis who I am almost the only active users, this authority will be much easier my job. I'm a content editor easy to get back vandalism of wikis, many things are changing inactive wikis. Copyright examiners in local wiki also am continuing. --Uğurkenttalk 16:24, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose. You only edited 12 wikis in total so far. --MF-W 17:31, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
Just trying to be active wikis in English and Turkish. As well as German. More than local wiki have to do changes? How much local wiki? --Uğurkenttalk 18:01, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
You can see how many local wikis we have on Special:SiteMatrix. --MF-W 14:26, 30 September 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose per MF-W. Please read GR (specifically "demonstrably active in cross-wiki countervandalism or anti-spam activities [..] and make heavy use of revert on many wikis" part) and GR doesn't let you mark pages for deletion. --Glaisher (talk) 15:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Global sysop for Jackmcbarn

Not ending before 21 October 2014 23:24 UTC

I regularly run into spammers and vandals on c: and mw:, and when checking their global contribs, I often find further damage caused by them on small wikis, and this would be helpful for me to clean some of it up myself. I'm currently a sysop on mw:. Jackmcbarn (talk) 23:24, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

  •   Support Alright. --Eurodyne (talk)
  •   Weak oppose - Jackmcbarn only has +sysop on one project, Mediawiki, where he has only had the tool since August of this year and a total of ~300 contributions. Additionally, I do not see much evidence of cross-wiki anti-vandalism work, which (at least for me) is a prerequisite to GS. Tiptoety talk 00:20, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose. Has only edited 22 wikis so far and is only a sysop on mw.org. In fact, I only see 5 fulfilled deletion requests on wikis where he has <100 edits (thereof 3 on Meta, which is no GS wiki). --MF-W 00:22, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
  •   Oppose In this particular case GR would probably be a better fit. --Rschen7754 01:02, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Request withdrawn The bar of cross-wiki activity is apparently higher than I expected. If I ever become more active on small wikis, I'll reconsider this. Jackmcbarn (talk) 02:52, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for volunteering either way :) - If you are looking to get involved, monitoring IRC channels such as #cvn-sw can be a good way to identify and remove vandalism. Ajraddatz (talk) 02:55, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Global sysop for Kaganer

Not ending before 9 October 2014 07:21 UTC

Hello, I'm admin in mw: and udm:, also i'm translation admin in d:, commons:, and Meta. Also i'm participant of project for support small wikis in regional (indigenous) languages of Russia (in Russian Wikipedia). These rights require me to helping these small wikis in solving technical problems. --Kaganer (talk) 07:21, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

  •   Support longtime trusted person. -- Vlsergey (talk) 11:56, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
@Kaganer: Please state exactly why you need the GS tools. --Glaisher (talk) 17:29, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
Improving Sidebar and other MediaWiki messages (by requests from local users), revert vandal edits (and protect some pages with recurring vandalism), works in protected templates, creating and configuring common.js, common.css and gadgets, etc. In some small wiki very little local administrators and they are often inactive. A lot of small things could be done directly, without trying to reach "sleeping" admins. Also I am constantly helping local administrators (something more than 6 years), and very annoying to many times to explain something, instead show just done right. In such projects, each active participant - is worth its weight in gold. If there is an opportunity to make their work more convenient - I believe you need to use it. Example of these small work (by request) - sah:Кыттааччы:Kaganer/MediaWiki:Sp-contributions-footer (need to move in MediaWiki namespace). --Kaganer (talk) 19:51, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
I just moved that page. --MF-W 20:05, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
Very thanks, but this one example only. And this not worked (not displayed in the Special:Contributions) without another actions... --Kaganer (talk) 12:56, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
Sure, I just wanted to solve it; now that you already mentioned it. The box is shown on Special:Contributions, however only if you use Udmurt as your interface language. That is bugzilla:1495/bugzilla:48956. --MF-W 14:33, 30 September 2014 (UTC)
I already guessed :( Please also move sah:Кыттааччы:Kaganer/MediaWiki:Anontools and sah:Кыттааччы:Kaganer/MediaWiki:Sp-contributions-footer-anon.--Kaganer (talk) 09:54, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
  •   Oppose "in solving technical problem" is outside the scope of GS tools.--Jasper Deng (talk) 19:14, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
  • Support. This is useful work which helps small projects in a very similar way to just deleting vandalism and spam. Many GSes even do such things, even if they maybe requested it only for blocking vandals. --MF-W 20:05, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose. Whilst I appreciate your willingness to help, I have a feeling your needs could be covered by the global editinterface right. As for countervandalism, per your reply to Glaisher, I would like to see more experience and activity in that area before granting GS. Savhñ 21:17, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but 'countervandalism' for me - is not "extraordinary" actions. This part of normal daily work, which (as I accidentally thought) I somehow have been doing for over 10 years. This is a quick rollback, fixing incorect renaming, semi-protection often vandalized pages, etc. (what I do, for example, in MediaWiki.org - as local admin). I try not to ask for more rights than I need for real work, and than I can use. Well, if it seems that enough 'global editinterface' rights - I'll be satisfied. I really thought I could at the same time helping small wikis in other things, but if there is a concern that I suddenly begin to abuse them, or to intervene in local conflicts, or the main content of the projects - then, of course, I will not pursue this.

Global sysop for Pmlineditor

Not ending before 13 October 2014 18:27 UTC

I've been an active SWMT member for about five years (with several periods of inactivity in the past two years admittedly) and am a global rollbacker since 2009 and was a global sysop (removed due to inactivity) for about three years. Now that I am more or less back and have been active, I am requesting to get the global sysop right again. I'll primarily focus on handling crosswiki spam / vandalism and obviously won't do anything controversial. I'm an admin on simplewiki, meta, enwikiquote, simplewiktionary if that is relevant. Global sysop for Alan

I would like to nominate Alan for the role of GlobalSysop. He is currently a crat and admin at esVoy, admin at Commons, and global rollbacker. He has been doing some excellent quality anti-spam, and spambot work through minor wikis. •   Oppose Usually I would just watch, in silence, friends awarding each other hats here at Meta, which happens everyday, without bothering to comment, but today a very serious concern for new editors, and new articles, impels me to take up my pen again. Not so long ago, I explained why Alan shouldn't be given global rollback rights, to no avail. This time, partly because I know my comment would be ignored (by the people above who just blindly !vote "support", without taking the time to check any of Alan's reversions, or global edits, as happened last time), and partly because I don't want to waste several more hours compiling his (I expect many) wrong reversions, I'm just going to focus on the greatest danger of all: wrongful and uncalled for deletions—which will happen if (Heaven forbid) Alan is "elected" global sysop. Alan himself should know he is not ready to become a global sysop, because he often tags pages for speedy deletion, only to revert himself later. I could post his many errors, wrong taggings for speedy deletions, and self-reversions, here, but I'll spare him the embarrassment (unless otherwise requested). What I will do, is post the sort of pages that he wrongly and routinely tags for speedy deletions, and which he would delete as a global sysop, without even realizing his mistake. His speedy deletion tags, in these pages, were declined by third parties (otherwise I wouldn't have access to them). The good news is that they were declined—had Alan been a global sysop, they would just be wrongly deleted, making it much harder to undo, or even notice the damage. Here, he tags a page for speedy deletion, for "copyvio", providing a link to a PDF with the lyrics of the anthem as justification.—Alan seems to think, that if he can find the same text, or same words, elsewhere on the Internet, it is thus a "copyvio", and should be deleted (many of his reversions are also based on this wrong principle). Deletion rightly declined. Here, he tagged a page for speedy deletion, claiming it was "spam". Now, I personally don't understand a word of that language—the problem is, I'm almost sure Alan doesn't understand it either. It will be noticed by anyone who bothers looking at Alan's global edits, that when in doubt, he often just types "spam", even on pages without any spam, as the purported reason for their deletion. Deletion declined. On Wikiversity, two of his speedy deletions tags, [1], [2], were declined. Here, Alan tagged a whole page for deletion, just because of a little vandalism in one of its sections, which was easily reverted. (I'm guessing this was a mistake, because of the different page creation system, but I can imagine Alan as a global sysop actually deleting that page.) Here, this time at my home project (Wikiquote), we would again see a page deleted for alleged "spam", that actually contained no spam whatever. To be fair, in this case the page did have one link, which was... the source for the quotes. This would be funny, if we weren't in actual danger of giving this confused editor global sysop (and deleting) tools. Billinghurst says, in his nomination, above: "Giving him the rights to clean up, rather than mark for deletion would be useful for his work." That is exactly why I oppose this request. ~ DanielTom (talk) 22:15, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
Comment Alan is a human ( I am pretty sure ;) ) and he makes mistakes. Overall I think he is a trusted user that wouldn't abuse his power as a gs. --Eurodyne (talk) 22:18, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
The question is, are his mistakes too serious and too many? I don't know, because I can't see the pages he correctly tagged for deletion (and don't even know how many they are). In any case, if Alan really does become a global sysop, I just hope he will keep tagging pages for deletion, instead of deleting them himself (I noticed many global sysops do this; they tag pages, but don't delete them)... That's all I have to say. ~ DanielTom (talk) 22:42, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
See Global_sysops#Scope. --Eurodyne (talk) 22:45, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
Just a clarification: "Alan tagged a whole page for deletion, just because of a little vandalism in one of its sections" is not true, because this is just how those translation pages works. Alan marked only this translation unit for deletion which included those test edits. And all edits made to those units appears at Developer FAQ/mr, regards --Stryn (talk) 10:37, 5 October 2014 (UTC)
  • @DanielTom: The problem with the plwikibooks tagging was that there was a previous good revision, not that the version he tagged was valid. If my methods are correct, he has 2088 deleted edits on 604 GS wikis (!!!). I might have counted wrong. PiRSquared17 (talk) 02:27, 10 October 2014 (UTC)

I travel frequently between the U.S. and China. As you may know, China has a strict Internet censorship program, which frequently disrupts my editing. While I am able find proxies that work, most of their IPs are blocked globally. I spend the most time on enwiki, where I am a rollbacker and reviewer, but I also edit other wikis. I believe that I have established a strong track record, and becoming IP block exempt would be very helpful for editing while behind restrictive firewalls. Hi, I'm an admin and bureaucrat on the Swedish Wikipedia with seven years of experience as bureaucrat. Since I earlier handled the vast majority of local name change requests, a global rename permission would be very convenient. / Ternarius (talk) 13:55, 28 September 2014 (UTC)

Global rename for SpeedyGonsales

Not ending before 20 October 2014 17:15 UTC

I'm sysop & bureacrat on hr.wikipedia from 2004/2005 (with pause in 2009), with rename log from 2006 onwards. As no other bureacrat from hr wikipedia asked for global rename rights (actually there are two active bureacrats on hr.wikipedia and I'm currently more active), here is my request, thanks! SpeedyGonsales (talk) 17:15, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

  •   Oppose Because of the controversy surrounding this user (i.e. Requests for comment/2013 issues on Croatian Wikipedia) leading to their loss of CheckUser, I feel that this discussion should last 2 weeks, if it is granted at all. --Rschen7754 02:26, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
  •   Comment knowing the issues at hrWP, this nomination may not be seen as neutral, noting I have extended the expiry date.  — billinghurst sDrewth 03:59, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
  • Too much drama related to this user, valid concerns were raised in the RfC, so I will have to oppose this request. Pmlineditor (t · c · l) 11:54, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
  •   Oppose - we need stable, trusted and uncontroversial renamers, not people who are enveloped with drama and controversies. Natuur12 (talk) 12:02, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
  •   Support Presumed guilty for what, controversies and drama? Lack of objectivity or witch-hunt again? Loss of CU has been misunderstood, and has nothing with Speedy.--MaGa (talk) 20:01, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
    • It is directly relevant, because the de-flagging discussion which came in at around 50% support demonstrated that he did not have enough community support to retain a CU. Our standards for this right are low, but someone with this little community support on their homewiki to remain an admin, much less a crat/CU should not be a global renamer. I also remembered SG's reinstation of a title blacklist rule [3] that bans any user with 4 consecutive numbers in their username (obviously including myself) from creating an account on that wiki (also see hr:MediaWiki razgovor:Titleblacklist Someone who is enforcing a username restriction like that should not be a global renamer. --Rschen7754 04:58, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
  •   Oppose Per Rschen. --Eurodyne (talk) 22:27, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
  •   Oppose per natuur. Jianhui67 talkcontribs 10:37, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
  • Strong oppose per above and communication issues when trying to reach him for renames on hrwiki in the past. Savhñ 22:15, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
  •   Oppose Per all of the above and the fact that SpeedyGonsales a week before (t)his request wrote quite oppositely: "Sorry, but I'm quite busy lately..." [4] He doesn't deserve this. He is create nonsense rule about usernames on Croatian Wikipedia. What a stupid nonsense rule about usernames he is a created, user names must not contain national symbols. You do not speak the truth [5] (actually there are two active bureacrats on hr.wikipedia and I'm currently more active) For others see also [6], [7], [8]--Kolega2357 (talk) 21:09, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
  •   Oppose Strong oppose. I'm a Croatian wikipedia user three years, and I have seen too much very active users leave the project because of Speedy's behaviour bordering harassment (I can readily list five or six of them). Croatian wikipedia has a continue leak of active users and I'm sure one of main reasons is Speedy Gonsales and his way of administer the project. He is too problematic even as a local administrator, surely is not appropriate for global rename.--Dean72 (talk) 11:36, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
  •   Oppose because of users like him, people are giving up on Croatian wikipedia. --Potjernik (talk) 14:35, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

Global rename for OrbiliusMagister, AKA εΔω

Not ending before 16 October 2014 23:56 UTC

I Have been appointed sysop & bureacrat on it.wikisource since 2006. Here's my rename log from 2008 until today. I won't boast huge experience, but in this last six years I helped some user through different wikis for multiple renames or usurpations, I handled changes from or to real names and scrutinized different policies in different projects. I am used to contacting stewards when in doubt. Last but not least, I noticed a need for Italian speaking renamers, and so I hope to be useful! - εΔω 23:56, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

  •   Neutral Only about 30 renames. We also have about four stewards who can speak Italian at a a native level and can help with the renaming process. Eurodyne (talk) 22:49, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

  •   Support also i agree with Vogone please change to 3 days--DangSunM (talk) 20:09, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
Done. I just implemented this change. I was initially in search for a clear consensus and so I chose the longer term even if it wasn't necessary... but if Vogone says three days are enough, Well I just obey: he's a steward, after all. :D. - εΔω 20:24, 16 October 2014 (UTC)
Just fyi, Vogone is a global renamer and global sysop, not a steward. Snowolf How can I help? 20:26, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

Global rename for Sotiale

Not ending before 18 October 2014 16:13 UTC

Sadly, I'm b'crat on kowiki mainly dealing with renaming. I need the tool for helping some kowiki users. Rename requests on kowiki are a little but the users need renaming have a difficult time finding answer because of language problem. It's the reason why I request the tool. There was no one can rename on kowiki. You can see my log here. Thanks and have a good time. --Sotiale (talk) 16:13, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
