Requests for global rollback permissions

Global rollback for Morphypnos

Good day,

I am Morphypnos and would like to request for Global Rollback. Here I sometimes translate ; on wikis, I am administrator of a small wiki, fr.wikiquote, local rollback, on fr.wiktionary, and reviewer on fr.wikinews and, to me, each office is a rewarding experience against the vandalism. I need global rollback tools in order to more efficiently revert vandalism, nosense and spam edits. Moreover, I am an active member of SWMT and often on #cvn-sw.

Thank you. Mɔʁfipnɔs (talk) 15:48, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

Is it possible to get them attached to your SUL maybe? GR won't be assigned to those unattached accounts, but nevertheless I think it's save to get this solved. Trijnsteltalk 19:22, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
I effectively haven't attached their accounts. I think that it's possible to attach them but I don't want it. However, if I change my opinion being GR, will I can attach them?--Mɔʁfipnɔs (talk) 21:30, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
Please visit Special:Mergeaccount to see if that's possible (you need to know their password or the mail address must be the same, afaik). --MF-W 21:32, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
It appears that these accounts aren't mine.--Mɔʁfipnɔs (talk) 22:00, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
They were, it is indeed a bug. These accounts were created automatically, as you can see for instance here, and as can be deduced from the fact that they were created after unifying his account. Since logging in locally probably doesn't work, you should request usurping of these accounts to a local bureaucrat, if available. Savhñ 17:44, 4 March 2014 (UTC)

Global rollback for Techman224

It's been a while since I applied for global rollback, but I think it's about time. I'm currently active in #cvn-swconnect, reverting using undo or using a previous version and marking pages for deletion. I been doing this for a number of years now, and I think I'm more than ready the handle rollback globally. I'm an administrator on Wikidata and Commons, and a rollbacker on the English Wikipedia. Thanks. Techman224Talk 04:06, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

  •   Regretful oppose - for much of the same reasons others were opposing your steward election: lack of sufficient cross-wiki experience. Keep up the SWMT work for at least another seven months or so and you probably will escape all these problems.--Jasper Deng (talk) 04:08, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

  • Oppose. Per policy, you need to be "demonstrably active in cross-wiki countervandalism or anti-spam activities […] and make heavy use of revert on many wikis" before applying for this global permission and from what I have seen in your luxo your activity in the SWMT has been very volatile (activity in 2009, then nothing for years, activity at the beginning of 2012, then again nothing and now low activity since December). For example this year, you have only performed 21 reverts outside of wikis where you already have a local rollback permission assigned, which doesn't demonstrate a "heavy use of revert on many wikis" as required by the policy, in my opinion. Vogone talk 19:46, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
  • &  with regret, as this is clearly a capable vandalfighter we're talking about. However the policy requires "make heavy use of revert on many wikis" which I do not believe is currently fulfilled by Techman. I looked thru luxo and found a lot of reverts, but few that weren't either this month or before spring 2013. I examined Techman's contributions on all wikis where he's been active this year, and found significant revert activity, but localized to a couple of days in february and january, and I do not think that it raises to the level of "heavy reverts". I think a user who desires the global rollbacker flag should show significant levels of activity for more than a few days in the past year. I would happily welcome a request later down the line after the user is consistently active in global countervandalism. Snowolf How can I help? 19:55, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

I also I'm busy in real life. I don't expect to be the most active person, but I do help out. My activity for the last two months would be pretty accurate, so long as there isn't a massive spam attack which would skew my activity levels. P.S. I didn't get your ping notification. • Thanks for the answer Techman224, i didn't pinged you, because echo will not work in main namespace, IIRC. Global rollback for Alan

Hey all. I have been using a script to do countervandalism work since some time ago as a member of SWMT and I think that the global rollback tool would be useful for my job at figthing vandalism and spam across global wikis. I mostly work on Spanish projects, as well as Simple, Catalan, Asturian, Galician, Euskera, among others. I can be accessed on #cvn-swconnect, where I am known by the name AlanL (or AlanCVN). I am a native speaker of spanish, but am also contactable in English and Euskera. Thanks, Alan (talk) 15:05, 6 March 2014 (UTC)

  • Comment: Almost all of Alan's edits on literally hundreds of wikis are to his own user pages. This is fortunate, because when he actually starts editing articles, things go terribly wrong. In the first place, the revert tool (or script) should be saved for clear vandalism. Alan doesn't understand this. Examples where he should have used undo, instead of rollback. Here he reverted a good-faith edit, instead of using undo, which was rude. Here, he reverted another good-faith, I'd say harmless, edit, that made 2 words go into the next line, instead of using undo. Rollback shouldn't be used in these cases. In the second place, there are countless cases, and I do mean countless, where Alan reverts IPs that are simply adding harmless paragraphs (breaks after a section), which make no difference either way, but which serve to increase his edit count. Now we come to what seems to me very worrisome, that is Alan reverting true and accurate information added to articles. One gets the impression, that Alan thinks that any edit by IPs must be automatically bad, and should be reverted. A few examples. Here, an IP corrects a birthplace, but Alan reverts it. This damages articles. Here, an IP corrects a stadium capacity, but Alan reverts it. Same story. Here, an IP adds the correct name of an educator, but Alan reverts it, even though he has no idea, and didn't check, who that person is. Here, an IP corrects a date of birth, but Alan reverts it. Once again, Alan is very quick to revert (1 min), and doesn't bother to get his facts straight. These are all very recent edits. (More like these certainly exist, but no human being has the patience to go over his edits to hundreds of foreign wikis even as far as I did—only a few days back—as the above comments demonstrate.) These edits alone show that Alan doesn't understand what Rollback is for, that he reverts good-faith edits, and that he shockingly and carelessly also reverts positive contributions. A more appropriate discussion, would be whether stewards should prevent him from using the revert script, rather than whether he should be given global rollback rights. ~ DanielTom (talk) 16:29, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
Removing the excessive embellishment on your comment allows a single statement to be made: Alan makes occasional errors in his xwiki reverts. That seems to be true, looking over the examples given. I still think that overall Alan's work is very good, but he should definitely watch out for cases like the above in the future. Ajraddatz (Talk) 16:47, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
"Occasional"??? "Excessive embellishment"? Sorry for actually giving a valid rationale for my comment, based on diffs, from the last couple of months. I have already noticed, in the past, that stewards rarely (if ever) do basic research or analyse their cases fully, because they are human beings, with limited time. In any case, clearly rights here are granted by friendship, and connections, and not for concerns about new editors and articles. And that's all I have to say on the matter. ~ DanielTom (talk) 17:18, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
Oh yes, that's what I look for when voting on requests like this. "Hmm, do I like this person that I've never actually spoken with... yes! Let's add him to the cabal!". Come on. I do actually appreciate the examples that you bring up, though I would definitely received your comment better if it wasn't full of snide remarks and irrelevancies (example: using a script to make userpages xwiki is not a crime nor related to this request). As to the actual, relevant content of your comment, I have already addressed that - my own research into the xwiki reverts of the candidate show that those sorts of mistakes are very uncommon, since I didn't come across any in my search, and since I've never seen them revert anything incorrectly in the cvn-sw channel. Ajraddatz (Talk) 17:25, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
I agree with Ajraddatz. Though I would like to advice Alan to not undo those kind of edits or make sure they're checked very thoroughly. Trijnsteltalk 16:59, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
Obviously I have made some x-wiki mistakes. I also happens in my daily life. The thing is try to learn from them every day and yet, I'm sure never will doing the 100% perfect. We are humans and learn every day. --Alan (talk) 17:02, 6 March 2014 (UTC)
This is true, but the fact that these are so recent concerns me. If these were several months (or years) old and there were no more recent mistakes, I would not be nearly as concerned. Please be more careful. I would have no problem supporting you in the future, and believe you will do a good job if you become GR, as long as you are careful. Global rollback for Aldnonymous

Hello everyone. I've been thinking a lot about cross-wiki vandalism, spam, and nonsense/test edits. This tools would make me easier on reverting them, I've been rollbacker at en.wikipedia, and rarely using them, and only using them occasionally on blatant vandalism, but cross-wiki vandalism is different, it's only allows me to revert blatant vandalism and such. Usually I gave explanation about my reversion on many wikis, from en, id, ms, commons, etc. But the situation is different on cross-wiki, lot of editors is either spambot, or pure vandalism only account, therefore I would like to request this rights for my account to make it easier for me to revert them. Once again, Great and many thanks for everyone here.--AldNonUcallin?☎ 21:20, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

Requests for global sysop permissions

Global sysop for Glaisher

Hello all. I'd like to request GS access to delete test/nonsense/spam pages and block persistent vandals and spammers. I'm currently one of the most active users in SWMT. I have requested blocks for persistent vandals on IRC and requested deletions through SRM. Instead of bothering others, I'd like to be able to do these myself on GS wikis. I can communicate in dv-N and en-2.5. I can be contacted by email and on IRC easily as I idle in the stewards and GS channel and many other wikimedia-related channels. Requests for global editinterface permissions

Global editinterface for Petrb

I received a message that this permission expire soon and I need to re-request it, so that is what I do now. I am a volunteer developer who is working on number of projects and edit-interface is useful to me in order to fix issues on a number of protected pages, not including only mediawiki space, but also configuration of various tools like huggle or bots which I am developer or operator of. Thanks, --Petrb (talk) 08:44, 9 March 2014 (UTC)

Global editinterface for Krinkle

Hereby requesting to retain this right for the following year. As a member of the interface editors group I help maintain gadgets and scripts. Changes to ensure compatibility with changes made to the software, or to apply best practices for security or user experience reasons (e.g. protocol relative urls), and other non-controversial maintenance. --–Krinkletalk 13:32, 10 March 2014 (UTC)

Requests for global IP block exemption

Global IP block exempt for Taekiro

I use a private VPN to connect to the Internet and the IP address of my personal server is a part of a /17 IP range globally blocked addresses. I ask for a unblocking of my IP address but according to the Steward who answer me by email, it is not possible to unblock one address of a range. That Steward advise me to ask for an IP block exemption but since I use multiple wikis, I would like to have a global exemption, thanks, --Taekiro (talk) 10:32, 6 March 2014 (UTC)

Special:CentralAuth/Taekiro 64 edits, on three wikis, and one of them was above. That does not count as xwiki. Try your one wiki, and see how you go.  — billinghurst sDrewth 14:07, 7 March 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the response. The problem is that I can't even post my local exemption request on Wikipedia and Wiktionary since my ip is blocked. Is there a way to ask such permission without editing pages ? --Taekiro (talk) 16:20, 11 March 2014 (UTC)
You can email me the information of the block and I will contact a local admin on your behalf. Ajraddatz (Talk) 16:25, 11 March 2014 (UTC)
Done - I've granted Taekiro the global IPBE flag. He doesn't seem to be a sockpuppet or single-purpose account, and he is being blocked by a steward action, not a local one. It therefore makes little sense to require him to ask local permission to bypass the global block, especially when he can't even do that himself. Ajraddatz (Talk) 01:07, 12 March 2014 (UTC)

When I try to edit the Chinese Wikipedia, I jump out the following tips, but it's not true, I did not break from Wikipedia

I'm sorry! Your IP address has been used in a wide area banned! Because of this segment users on dynamic IP addresses to destroy Wikipedia, you are currently using a range of IP addresses which have been temporarily blocked. If you have nothing to do with vandalism, please register an account. If you are unable to register the account, or the account has been registered but still be banned, please send an email to unblock-zh - at - lists.wikimedia.org feedback to administrators. You can also own discussion page add Template:Top ban appeal (including both sides of the braces) and write down your questions.

I can not do anything, not even create an account, please help me. Song whistle 04:55, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Hello, sorry for the slow response. Please email us at stewards wikimedia.org with information on the IP or range you are using. Ajraddatz (Talk) 05:15, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
Did you asking for the ip i use now? I can't tell you my IP before. my now IP is send. my name is songwhistle[at]outlook. please help! Song whistle 07:00, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
Confirm that user is being caught by a block. IRC message sent to ajr for information.  — billinghurst sDrewth 07:29, 16 March 2014 (UTC)
I just saw my email is an ERROR to send because the outlook. I like to write the IP here. It is a VPN so I am not concern I will be in dangerous. The IP was got from geoiplookup.wikimedia.org, it was this: Geo = {"city":"(null)","country":"A1","lat":"0.000000","lon":"0.000000","IP":"65.49.2.191"}. Song whistle 07:58, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Fantasticfears

I'm a Chinese wikipedian. I bought proxy service to access wiki project in case of getting blocked from PRC government. I began editing from 2008. I'm not the bad guy to violate proxy usage. :)--Fantasticfears (talk) 15:07, 20 March 2014 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Warddr and WarddrBOT

The ip of my dedicated server at OVH I use for cross-wiki bot edits, and as a proxy if I am using an unsafe Internet connection, is part of a global block (all servers of OVH are blocked). Since it's not possible to unblock one ip of this range it would be interesting for me if you could add me and my bot to the global IP block exemption list. thanks! (I requested the ip unblock here). --Warddr questions? 17:54, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

Granted both. Ajraddatz (Talk) 17:59, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Aldnonymous

Hello, my government and my ISP actively blocking websites, I usually reviewing images and tagging speedy copyvios on commons but also on other wikis, since this censoring is happening I can't act or actively tagging files Cross wiki anymore, so I change proxxy all the time to evade filtering, but this cause another problem because many IPs are blocked due to many reasons, I request G-IPBE for this account to resolve this problem. Addendum Revi/Hym411 can confirm this for steward who want to know details from another perspective. Thanks for Stewards who read this request.----AldNonUcallin?☎ 03:04, 24 March 2014 (UTC)
