Hello. On German Wikipedia I'm an admin since 09/05, oversighter since 06/09, and former arbcom member. I would like to have the global rollback right to take care of German trolls vandalizing in other projects (like this guy). Thanks in advance. Stefan64 00:41, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Although I'd prefer to see more crosswiki contributions first, I'd support that request because I know him quite well from dewiki and trust him with the tools. —DerHexer (Talk) 18:31, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
  • Oppose - Sorry! Even thought that you are trustworthy, this tool is for the crosswiki vandalfighters and members of the SWMT. You don't really have a lot of crosswiki contribution to have a real use for the tools. Please become active in the SWMT and come back to request this tool in a few months. For some wikis you may want to request just a local rollback flag. Barras talk 18:15, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
  • oppose per above--Nick1915 - all you want 09:15, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

Global rollback for Ktr101

The following request is closed. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Hi. I am looking for the global rollback tool so that I will be able to fight more vandalism when I see it. I already utilize the tool over at the English Wikipedia and Commons, and the use of this tool would be a great thing for me. Thanks. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 03:54, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

  • Oppose - Sorry, but per the request above. I don't actually see need for you having this tool. Please become active in the SWMT and come back in a few months to request this right. Barras talk 18:18, 27 April 2010 (UTC)
  • Oppose per above--Nick1915 - all you want 09:15, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

I'm going to withdraw for now as this is obviously not going anywhere. Thanks for the suggestions. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 14:50, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Global rollback for Leyo

The following request is closed. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

I would like to ask for global rollback. In addition to Commons and de-WP (both as admin) I am also active in many other projects. Global rollback would make life easier sometimes. :-) --Leyo 10:07, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

  • Oppose - Sorry, thought that you're trusted I don't actually see the need for you having the global rollback permission. Most of your global contributions belong to the picture work, namely changing pictures to svg. This kind of work doesn't require such a tool. This one incident doesn't imply an urgent need for the tool. Just request local rollback flag where needed or ask someone from the current team to help you out. If you become more firstly more active with the undo button, then come back in some months to re-request this flag. Sorry, but not now. Best wishes Barras talk 12:02, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
I didn't say that there is “an urgent need”. :-) --Leyo 16:36, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
  • Thank you for your interest in becoming a global rollbacker, but I don't think you're a suitable person for this tool. I've gone though your contributions in various wikis (excl. Commons and dewiki) and it seems as if you were only focused on image replacements. Global rollback, however, is primarily intended for cross-wiki vandal fighters. Please join us in SWMT and show us you really need this tool. Thank you for your understanding and have a nice day. --Mercy 07:17, 11 May 2010 (UTC)
  • I'll   Support this request. Leyo possesses two of the three traits I look for in global rollback candidates: trustworthiness (as evidenced by sysop rights at two major problems) and cross-wiki activity. While it's true they don't have a lot of experience reverting vandals at small wikis, I think overall if they're able to help out, whynot. –Juliancolton | Talk 21:11, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
  •   Support although I'm not very neutral in this special case. —DerHexer (Talk) 21:15, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
  •   Support Why not? -FASTILY (TALK) 05:22, 14 May 2010 (UTC)
Done. It's clear that there's no overwhelming support for your request, but I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt. Taking a quick look at your contributions it does indeed seem you don't have a need for this tool, but perhaps you'll offer a helping hand with SWMT work every now and then. --Erwin 17:13, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Global rollback for Diego Grez

The following request is closed. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Hello. I am Diego Grez, formerly MisterWiki. I have been working on cvn the last few months patrolling and reverting vandalism, although mostly reporting vandals to stewards when there are no admins around. I want to make myself useful, and many users know that I keep working and working on wiki. I won't misuse it, blatant cross-wiki vandalism needs to be combated quickly. Thanks in advance. --Diego Grez return fire 21:45, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

  • Oppose - A no-go for me is a still existing block on a major wiki, namely eswiki. Your unblock on enwiki isn't long time ago, and it is/was with editing restriction. At least not now. Barras talk 21:56, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
Nevermind the Spanish Wikipedia block. It's just one in +700 wikis. Additionally and hopefully, my restrictions on will be lifted soon. --Diego Grez return fire 21:57, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
...and edited in only around 100 out of +700. Furthermore, the block. No. Barras talk 22:13, 8 May 2010 (UTC)
  • Oppose - You lost rollback on Simple English Wikipedia over misuse. I'm afraid I can't trust you with it globally. Griffinofwales 22:03, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

  •   Support User has been quite active and has been helpful in cv activities. I believe in a second chance to a human being. We all make mistakes and speaking about blocks in history, I should say that I was blocked somewhere recently for delivering a foundation message too. :-). I did not understand the block though. --Jyothis 00:53, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
  •   Oppose Very sorry about this, but in my opinion, the misuse of rollback in simple wiki is too recent. Your work has been great so far, but I think you need more time. While I know you will try to be careful, I would like to see you get a little more experience before this. Your intentions are good and I think you would get this tool soon. Just give it more time. :) Pmlineditor  09:26, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

  •   Neutral, I think you will be a great asset for the foundations projects in time, and I wish you to get the rights, but giving rights to someone with blocks or editing restrictions on any wiki is overriding local community, and I have a problem with that. Laaknor 08:01, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
  • Echoing Jyothis. You've come a long way since the initial enwiki thing, and in six or eight months from now, barring any addition blocks or major issues, I think you should have no problem getting GR. In the meantime, keep up the good work. –Juliancolton | Talk 21:08, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi. Most of my cross-wiki vandalism fighting dates to last year, however, this is do to an extended wikibreak I took at the beginning of the year. I have reverted vandalism cross-wiki on several projects including: bar, ca, el, enwb, eu, gl, and several others. I am a sysop on the Simple English Wikipedia, and the multilingual Wikisource, and a rollbacker at enWP and commons, where I have been active fighting vandalism in the past. Thanks for your consideration. Maximillion Pegasus 16:37, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

Requests for global sysop permissions

Global sysop for Miya

The following request is closed. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Hi, I'd like to ask for global sysop rights. I'm sysop in jawp and Commons, and a member of OTRS. In ja sister projects such as wikisource there are few sysops in daytime, so when I find a cross-wiki vancal who uses Japanese language, I have to ask stewards for help. Of course stewards are very kind and helpful, though, most of them don't understand Japanese. I believe a global sysopship would allow me to block cross-wiki vandals (mainly coming from ja projects) efficiently by myself instead of asking stewards for help. Thank you.--miya 22:51, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

  •   Comment First off, I noticed that you have a number of unattached accounts. Secondly, while you have some cross-wiki experience I see little that indicates and sort of anti-vandalism work. Would you mind providing me with some examples of your cross-wiki anti-vandalism work? Tiptoety talk 07:27, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
    • Thank you for your comment. Yes, I have 6 unattached accounts. Should I merge them first? Then I shall withdraw this request. As to the second, my main cross-wiki activity is to request for help on IRC (#wikimedia-stewards) when I find vandals in RC of ja sister projects which language most stewards don't understand. If I could block vandals in such cases by myself, it would be more efficient. Isn't it enough? If there were a status which allow sysopship across sister projects of a certain language, I would have applied for it.--miya 17:24, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
      • Miya is a well-known and highly trusted editor in ja. I like the idea of "a status of sysopship across projects of a certain language". It's certainly a natural request. (In fact, it would be nice to have a status which automatically granted sysop status across {projects of that language with fewer than 5 sysops} -- for small languages one could simple grant that right to all sysops on any project.) SJ+ 16:12, 9 May 2010 (UTC)
  • Oppose - Sorry, but I don't see the necessary crosswiki activity for such a tool. By your statement it looks to me, that you don't want to use the mop across all wikis where it is needed. If you need the sysop tool just on ja.wikis, so apply for the mop locally and get a regular adminship. Sorry, I don't actually see any need for you having this tool. Barras talk 12:08, 7 May 2010 (UTC)
  • Support I confess here is COI; I'm sysop on jaWN and jaWQ but not active 24/7. Other helpful and trusted hands are welcome, even in a limited scope. --Aphaia 01:06, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
  •   Support - Miya is a trustworthy cross-wiki contributor; I have full confidence in their ability to use the global sysop right responsibly. Languages are good, as well. –Juliancolton | Talk 21:06, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

  •   Oppose If it's only for Japanese projects you should ask local sysop flags. --Hercule 08:18, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
  •   Support It isn't bad that you will fight mostly japanese vandals. I think it would be better to have one global flag than gather flags on dozen different wikis. I believe that you will not missuse this strictly technical tool.--Dima io 13:26, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
  •   Oppose Specialized, "limited-range-global sysopship" has been deemed out of scope and has thus been rejected before. Seb az86556 16:58, 18 May 2010 (UTC)
  • She will work mainly with Jap vandals, but not only with them --Dima io 22:39, 19 May 2010 (UTC)
  • There needs to be some general discussion then. It can't just be arbitrary by telling some people, "ok, go ahead and limit yourself," and tell others, "rejected, get local flags." Seb az86556 18:35, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
  •   Support - Per what Juliancolton and Dima io said. Maximillion Pegasus 02:26, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
  •   Oppose - I am with Seb az86556. Global sysop is to be used globally, not just on a select few languages. I would suggest going for local flags instead. Tiptoety talk 17:02, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
  •   Oppose Per Tiptoety. –BruTe talk 17:51, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
  •   Support per Julian and Dima io, but with some reservations re the unattached accounts.   — Jeff G. ツ 04:12, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
  •   Oppose Per Marine-Blue. Yassie 11:41, 24 May 2010 (UTC)
  • Comment - With no disrespect intended, I find some of the above objections slightly frustrating. Miya never said that she (?) would use the sysop tools exclusively on ja projects, but rather that local admins at said projects are sometimes absent, and a global sysop to look over Japanese wikis would be useful. In no way did sue rule out branching out to other projects and using GS rights there. And even if she does intend to only employ the extra tools at the handful of ja wikis, how is that an issue? –Juliancolton | Talk 01:05, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
It's possibly an issue, due to Seb az86556's rationale. -- Mentifisto 18:07, 27 May 2010 (UTC)
    • Agreed, we here see disagreement, and it is not personal but rather general regarding what the flag is intended, so it could be an issue. But I don't think it's the best venue to discuss further. RfC or talk:Global sysop may be preferable? --Aphaia 05:49, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
      • Exactly. Nothing personal -- I suggest putting this request on hold and solving/clarifying this in one of the suggested venues. Since this is not the first request of this nature, I'm simply guessing it won't be the last. (And with 8 support and 7 oppose, this seems warranted to avoid having to repeat this show in the future) Seb az86556 11:07, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
  •   Not done At this time, there does not seem to be a consensus to extend the glonal sysop maintenance toolkit to Miya. Thank you for volunteering your services. -- Avi 08:17, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Requests for global editinterface permissions

Global editinterface for Horacewai2

The following request is closed. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

Help with translate out of translatewiki. For update the translate and make changes for interface after the consideration made by discussion. Active on zh.wikipedia, zh.wikinews and zh-yue.wikipedia. Thanks--HW 02:47, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Question: I'm not sure I quite understand what you're asking for. If you mean at/on translatewiki, you need to ask there; or maybe I misunderstand "out of" translatewiki... Seb az86556 04:50, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Comment As Seb az86556 noted, it should be done on translatewiki, and there is no such user group on Wikimedia. If you would like to sync Wikimedia wiki settings to the latest on translatewiki, it doesn't fall onto MediaWiki usergroup; you need an access to shell as sysadmin. --Aphaia 11:17, 29 May 2010 (UTC)

Ooz... sometimes the discussion on VP will need to update the local interface and Mediawiki default translate in the same time. The translate updating is mean this case may happen in some small wiki with no active sysop (zh-yue.wikipedia may be one of the example). --HW 00:45, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Oh. yeah, I hear you now. Seb az86556 03:07, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
I guess there are three options for you: 1) re-submit the request to #Requests for global sysop permissions which is wider than but surely covers the requested function by definition, 2) begin a discussion for creating the requested global user group or 3) withdraw and apply for each small wikis' adminship whose interface you're concerned with in particular. Good luck. --Aphaia 05:36, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
Er what, of course global editinterface exists on WMF. See this. -- Prince Kassad 08:34, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
The group exists, but there doesn't exists any policies for the group, i.e. no limitations for what it can be used for, who can get it, etc. It's only given out temporary for a limited time, and for extremly good reasons. Laaknor 08:36, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
From System_administrators, it seems it was done so that sysadmins could change messages on all wikis at once. I don't think that should be given by stewards in normal circumstances. And certainly not to help with translation. Platonides 08:44, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
System administrators can give themselves the right, without giving themselves a new group (changing permissions of the group system administrators), and they are not related to the global group editinterface. Laaknor 08:52, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
At last, I what to get the "protect" permissions which is the right include in this user-group. Also please give some comment on the global rollback request on the above.-HW (Talk / On home wiki - Talk) 10:43, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
