Global rollback for Rrmsjp

The following request is closed.

I have the rollbacker flag on Eswiki, Enwiki and Simplewiki. Also I am Sysop at Eswikti. I have experience reverting vandalism, and I think I can be useful on all English and Spanish projects, and also in Lad projects. I leave this at your consideration, if you think I can be useful with this flag. Thanks. --Rrm·Sjp Eswiki Dewiki SimpleWiki 01:30, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

For now we will not grant global rollback. We do appreciate your anti-vandalism work, but global rollback is intended specifically for users actively fighting vandalism on a large number of projects. This means that doing SWMT work for a few months is pretty much a prerequisite for being granted global rollback. If you're interested in helping out please do so. If you have any questions you can always ask a SWMT member of a steward. --Erwin 18:45, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

Global rollback for Jackie

Latest about 2 months I have been watching small wiki and as possible, revert spam links, vandalism and incorrect edits or mark pages for speedy deletion. For more effectively cross-wiki work I need this flag. Some examples such my latest edits: 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. My current flags are represented on the user page. Thanks — Jack 13:04, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

  • question: your edits look like an interwikibot, and apart from the few diffs you mentioned in your request, i have not seen other small wiki work. what did i miss, could you provide more evidence of your "2 months smw" please? thanks and very best, oscar 01:13, 13 March 2010 (UTC)
Yes, mostly my cross-wiki contribution is manually interwiki, but antispam/antivandalism edits I make since ~ January 2010. Automatic interwiki's bot I run only before accept bot flag on ru-wiki, a few times on ~5 projects because don't have global bot flag now. Some days ago I make SUL for my additional account for future bot and divide cross-wiki contribiton (interwiki / other). Sorry, I do not remember exactly the first edit within SWMT project activity, but think, now a few tens such edits include on deleted pages. By my logs I joined to the #cvn-sw channel since 9 jan 2010, but date of first edit during monitor I don't know, may be same or approximate. — Jack 09:02, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

    •   Not done There are, unfortunately, only a few respondents here, and of those heavily involved in small-wiki work, it does not appear that there is a consensus to allow Jackie to have the global rollback maintenance tool at this time. My suggestion to Jackie would be to accept the constructive criticism and to spend a month or two more actively in small wiki work, after which the next request should sail through smoothly. Good luck and thank you for volunteering! -- Avi 14:23, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

Requests for global sysop permissions

Global sysop for Tiptoety

The following request is closed.
  • Hello, I am Tiptoety. Currently our Stewards are overworked, and often I come to find that there are none online when they are most needed. I would like to help to resolve this issue by throwing in my hat for global sysop. I currently serve as an administrator at the English Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and Meta (as well as a couple of simple projects). I also serve as a CheckUser at Commons. Being that I currently have global rollback, I am a participant in the small wiki monitoring team and have performed a number of vandalism reverts on a multitude of projects. I understand that global sysop is simply a tool, and does not give the holder of said permission the right to enact community consensus, override the decisions of local community members and/or sysops, or involve him/herself in editorial disputes. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 04:51, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

  •   Oppose Moved as a support with the candidate's clarification Global sysop is not a tool to bypass the local consensus of a project. You requested in an RFA to a project in which after some oppose votes, you commented "I will just wait for the global sysop flag to be enacted upon withdrawing." because the local project would not permit you to become a sysop there. I think you may intend to use your flag on that project, and other projects where local communities do not want you to, or trust you to do so. Contrary to your statement above. Sorry, NonvocalScream 13:08, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
NonvocalScream, Global Sysops do not have the ability to use their permissions on Commons, see Pathoschild's automated list or Global sysops/wiki set. Sukida 13:59, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
Er... you mean Simple Wikt? Yes, I know. The candidate apparently did not know that at the time he made his comment. I'm using it an an indicator. I intended to support Tip, he does good work. I check the candidates I intend to vote.comment on thoroughly. This means I'm checking contributions to all areas. If I see something that makes me uncomfortable, I will do what I believe is right. Thanks, NonvocalScream 14:04, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
Ha, well, simple, commons, they're all these "wiki" things right? :) Sukida 15:35, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
Just to point out: they are in fact now included, the numbers included temporary admins that will be desysoped when GS is activated and have already requested to opt in (and been placed into the wikiset by... Shanel I believe). The wiki set at Global sysops/list is not the official one. Sadly we can't view the actual wikiset it appears... which is silly but another issue for another day. Yay! from king of tools Pathoschild: this is the official version(pulls from actual server). James (T C) 16:11, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
I linked to that above. Sukida 16:49, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
Ahh yes your right you did :) I didn't check because I assumed it was the manual list (since I was thinking about simple wiktionary which isn't on the manual list but is included in the wikis with the automatic one. Sorry about that ;) James (T C) 17:01, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
I don't believe that use of global sysop tools by Tiptoety there would be called "bypassing local consensus", since local consensus was that Tiptoety is not enough active on the project to get local adminship, but nobody said that is not trustworthy to fight vandalism there. vvvt 14:15, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
First, simpleWikt is part of the GS wikis. Second, as a local admin and as one of those who opposed, I have no problem if he uses his tools to fight vandalism. Of course, the community (and other users) may think otherwise. Pmlineditor  15:07, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
As I do, as I've stated above, yes. NonvocalScream 17:48, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
Maybe Tiptoety would be willing to promise (under pain of gruesome death removal from the global sysop group) to not use his permissions on that project unless elected as an administrator locally first? Would that alleviate some of the issues? Sukida 17:52, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
CommentIf enyone agree, this should be used for all not just for him, and i can´t see a needness for that. In other case he is trusted even if he is not a sysop there, he done a good work until now, so i can´t understand your objections. Perhaps he can promise tu reduce his GS activity there, but in case of emergency, he should have a permission to act in my opinion. Why should enybody remove his GS flag just because of one project if he works fine on other 700 (as GR or per wikiset)? --WizardOfOz talk 18:22, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

← Oh dear. I guess I could see how my comment could easily be construed as a pompous reply to failing an RfA. That was not my intention at all. ;-) Instead it was more of a "I was offering to help perform non-controversial tasks such as deleting attack pages, and blocking vandals. But with the possible implementation of global sysops coming up this RfA may be a bit pointless." I will agree though that being a local administrator is far different than that of a global sysop. Like I stated in my nomination statement, global sysops are simply a group of trusted users who have a few special technical abilities to stop imminent threats to smaller projects. I do not plan on using the tools for anything other than that. Hope that clears things up. Cheers, Tiptoety talk 22:24, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

Global sysop for Jamesofur

The following request is closed.
  • Hello, I am Jamesofur (James Alexander). I know that the creation of this group was slightly controversial but I honestly feel that it will be a big help for the small wikis. As Tiptoety said above and we have said many times the Stewards are over worked. No where is this more true then with xwiki vandalism, abuse and spam. I hold Global Rollback permissions as well as Checkuser on Simple Wiki and sysop both on Simple and here on Meta. I am constantly on IRC and available for emergences even when working on other projects. I think that with the small number of stewards that were selected this year (and the large amount of stewards that have left us over the past year) the xwiki work will be even more stressed and I would like to help out with that as much as I possibly can. Even more so then Global Rollback (which is not a tool without its share of problems on small wikis) Global Sysops need to be very careful to make sure they do not interfere with the local community, in the end the local community wins REGARDLESS of what I think in the matter personally and I intend to live by that through out my time there and to totally remove myself from any kind of content dispute. As always please please feel free to ask questions if you have one, I will be happy to answer.James (T C) 05:08, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

Global sysop for Seb az86556

The following request is closed.

Yes -- what am *I* doing here? Given my opposition to the whole idea during the vote, it should be crystal clear that I am aware of the dangers, implications, and possibility for abuse that these tools include. That's exactly what makes me a perfect candidate for this job - I know how I would feel if some outsider messed with nv.wiki, and I will be wary to consider this each and every time. In addition, I intend to use these exclusively on Native American wikis which I patrol on a daily basis. Furthermore, I will voluntarily surrender these tools upon the first complaint received. That's for the record. Seb az86556 05:24, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

  • Indeed weird. I see your point. I think its better to get admin flag on those wikis you monitor. On the other hand I think local admin at a wiki means much more than being a global one, operating in the same wiki, especially in a small wiki. Global admin is for trivial maintenance (such trivial that you don't even need to understand the language). I tend to   Support per you being aware of "dangers, implications, and possibility for abuse" and "will voluntarily surrender these tools upon the first complaint received". --Egmontaℨ 13:22, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
  • I tend to agree with Egmontaz. Wouldn't it be better to get admin on the wikis where you plan to carry out administrative tasks? I think that'll be better than getting GS which means getting admin on over 50 wikis. If you are going to edit only on 2-3 wikis, why do you need this flag? Cheers, Pmlineditor  13:26, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
    • Question is: Wouldn't that look even weirder? Seriously - I pop up on Admin-requests and say Cheyenne, Inupak, Inuktitut, Cherokee, Aymara, Guarani -- that's 6, and yes, all of'em, please (I already have the flag for Navajo, by the way...). Ah well, just trying to help... Seb az86556 13:46, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

  •   Support In general you don't go with what I think the main requirements (Global Rollback for experience etc) should be but you have proven yourself and for what you request... I'm ok with. I trust you and think you could do a lot of good for those wikis and while yes you could ask for it on all of them there are enough that I think this is a valid request (1,2,3 for example is not at all). I do kind of hope this doesn't bite me in the behind and cause people to point at precedence but /me shrugs you have to do what you think is right regardless of what others think. Global sysop for Innv

The following request is closed.

Hi friends! I'm active user in many WMF wikis, active member of SWMT, worker in small slavic-wikis (info), global rollbacker. My main work - fighting with cross-wiki spam and vandalism. I have big sysop expirence in different projects (currently I'm admin on Meta, Ru-wikisource, StrategyWiki, etc).

Global sysop need for me because:

  • I plan cleanup small wikis (remove test pages, vandalism, spam, etc);
  • I will block the vandals and other abusers in small wiki;
  • I can make help for local communities of small wikis with abusefilter and mediawiki edits (optionally, if needed).

Else I want to help the stewards in their hard work (associated with the GS rights).

Thank you for your consideration. Regards, —Innv {ru-ws} 05:27, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

  •   Oppose. Firstly, because of negative experience in Ukrainian Wiktionary. This wiki has two active sysops, however, Innv requested temporary sysop rights and deleted a number of broken redirects without any discussion, most of these redirects could be easily fixed instead of deletion. Yes, it looks like 'uncontroversial', but still informing local community about such problem would be more helpful. Secondly, I do not trust him (or her), as this user (who claims to be female) had been blocked as a sockpuppet of a male user. Although it's an old story, I find it a bit strange, and I would not trust such user — NickK 20:15, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

Global sysop for Pmlineditor

The following request is closed.

Hi, I am Pmlineditor. I am an active member of SWMT and I often revert crosswiki vandalism and tag pages for deletion. I have been a global rollbacker for nearly 5 months now and I'm an admin on Meta, Simple Wikipedia, Simple Wiktionary and a probationary custodian on English Wikiversity. I think I can help out with GS as I am quite active in SW patrol; often tagging vandalism pages for deletion and asking stewards to block users. As a global sysop, I can do these tasks myself provided there is no other local admin around. I will always try not to offend/disturb the local community and will never handle deletions/blocking where community decision is necessary and will not override local discussions or perform any controversial and unacceptable tasks. It is often seen that there are too few stewards to handle massive cw vandalism and I think that I can help with this. My timezone is UTC+5:30, which is probably different from most others. Additionally, I am bn-N, hi-3, hif-2 which should also help. Thank you for your consideration. Cheers, Pmlineditor  06:43, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

Global sysop for Prince Kassad

The following request is closed.

Hello. I am Prince Kassad and I help to keep the wiki clean, tagging pages for deletion on small wikis to let other sysops know this page needs to be deleted. However, there are those wikis which are very dormant: they get little to no activity, their sysops, if any, left the project years ago and they're real breeding grounds for vandalism. We're way understaffed at the moment to deal with this problem, and I believe I could help in cleaning up the vandalism. Global sysop is, of course, not a sign of power, it is not at all meant to override or subdue the local community; its sole purpose is helping in deleting obvious vandalism pages (gibberish, attack pages, etc.) and blocking IPs and users who destroy good content with their vandalism. I am a sysop on enwiktionary so I already know my way around with the sysop tools, and I've asked for temporary sysop several times before to clean up the large backlog of pages for deletion. -- Prince Kassad 06:56, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I'm putnik, my home wiki is Russian Wikipedia where I'm a sysop and checkuser. I'm active on Commons where I'm sysop, and semi active on Russian Wikinews where I am sysop too. I well know wikicode, HTML, CSS and Javascript. I plan to help some wikis with tools and remove spam/test pages. — putnik 12:42, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

Comment Generally, we're going to be looking for people already active in SWMT, who do the bulk-revert work and could be stretched just a little farther by simply doing more of what they're already doing. I don't think we should waste your talents on such rote work. Kylu 17:24, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
  •   Neutral - You seem to be doing excellent work, and considering your multiple positions of trust on Commons and ruwiki, I think you're sufficiently trustworthy. However as Kylu said, global sysop is just as much about need and activity as it is trust. While you have plenty of contributions across many projects, I don't see a lot of reverting and spam fighting. A neutral for now; I'll revisit soon though. If Google Translate is correct, I assume this means "Who are you?". Well, that is really off topic; you can get all the info in my userpage. Maybe I am a nobody. On the other hand, it's not me, but the community (I think) who would like to have diffs. •   Not done We realize that there appears to be improper off-wiki canvassing, possibly from both sides of an internal RuWiki political fracas. As such, we have taken this into consideration; especially as these discussions are not a vote but discussions. However, the issues regarding behavior and trust that were raised sufficiently resonated among respondents, especially those not actively involved in RuWiki politics, to indicate that there is no consensus among those supplying an opinion here to allow putnik access to the global sysop toolbox at this time. It should be reiterated, however, that targeted off-wiki communications to specifically affect on-wiki processes (e.g. above and beyond friendly notices) are forbidden, and evidence indicating violation of wikimedia policies may result in actions being taken in the future to protect the projects and ensure their integrity. -- Avi 15:46, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
Well, I only see two NO votes from users not involved in ru.wiki politics: those of Udmulu and Pmlineditor. The majority of others have been indefinitely blocked from ru.wiki for disruptive behavior. This seems to be a result of off-wiki canvassing--Yaroslav Blanter 18:21, 22 March 2010 (UTC

Global sysop for Hercule

The following request is closed.

Hello,

I'm Hercule,

My home wiki is the french Wikipedia, but I'm active on small wikis, where I do frequent patrols. I've been temporary sysop on corsican Wikibooks (rights log) and aceh Wikipedia (rights log). I'm also bureaucrat and sysop on wu Wikipedia. So I have experience on small wiki administration. I had requested the global roolback flag few times ago, but it was refused because most of my patrols consist in tagging pages for deletion, not to revert crosswiki vandalism. So I think that global sysop is the flag that suite to my SWMT activity.

I will also soon become sysop on french Wikipedia. I'm also sysop on french Wikipedia.

Regards

  •   Neutral It worries me that in your recent request for global rollback you said that David.crotchet vandalized your pages. Well the mistake of his and some kind of bot malfunction was obvious but calling a trusted user (sysop in en.v & fr.v)(or any user indeed) a vandal without first assuming a mistake (when of course you can assume a mistake, wich was the case with David.crotchet) is something that I don't want from a sysop. I don't say I don't support your case because as you said you are a trusted sysop in a wiki where you don't understand the language which is a great qualification for this job, and you obviously have sysop experience. But I'd like an explanation of this behavior first, and a assurance that you won't classify users as vandals so easily. Regards. --Egmontaℨ 08:05, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
I founded many of my ser pages completly destructed by a bot, whereas I never asked him to update my interwikis. The fact that a user decide to touch many of my user page without my authorization is not acceptable for me (It is a personnal decision to just post a link to my home wiki on non Wikipedia projets). The fact that the mistake was not corrected before I asked it is a second bad point. For this reason I said it is vandalism when I discovered it. But I don't consider that the user that make this is a vandal, and I never asked any sanctions for that (and will not request any^^). --Hercule 17:28, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

This meta-project for the coordination and support for small wikis, are attracted to ru-wiki (the wiki in the languages of the peoples of Russia), based on ruwiki-user's knowlege and experience. What is wrong? Support of user:amdf - not the result of advertising, but the result of his initiative and his reputation as a partisipant of the project. Global sysop for NuclearWarfare

The following request is closed.
Hi all, I am NuclearWarfare. I had said earlier that I wasn't planning on running for global sysop (even though I was the one that authored the proposal[2]). However, I am planning on getting involved with SWMT again, and I figure that the global sysop flag would be helpful. In addition to being a sysop on enwiki, commonswiki, and metawiki, I have been a global rollbacker since last June, and I have made just about fifteen hundred antivandalism edits since becoming active with SWMT.

I do wish to acknowledge that about a year ago, when I was relatively new to SWMT, I made some serious mistakes with the use of a temporary admin flag that I received for uncontroversial maintenance. The maintenance turned out to be not so uncontroversial, and I really should not have done it in the first place. This incident is the one that Mike.lifeguard alludes to in his comment at my request for global rollback (linked above). As such, I promise to only use these tools to combat blatant vandalism, or when specifically requested to by local administrators.

Please feel free ask me any questions you have; I will be glad to answer them. Cheers, NW (Talk) 05:28, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

Global editinterface for Beau

I would like to request global editinterface rights for one day. I want to update gadgets for Polish projects, where I don't have sysop rights (pl.wikibooks, pl.wikiquote, pl.wikinews). Beau (talk) 08:44, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

These projects have a lot of admins, is not possible you make a request for the local admins (for admins update the gadgets for you)? ---- @lestaty discuţie 09:00, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
I can ask them, but it is more time consuming for me to explain what I want to be done, and for other sysops. I have chosen the faster way. This is not my first request - log. Beau (talk) 09:18, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
Done Please ask for remove the flag... Regards ---- @lestaty discuţie 09:23, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
Thanks! You can remove me from the group. Beau (talk) 16:47, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
And removed. Thanks for your work. — Dferg (talk) 16:50, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
