Global bot status requests

Global bot status for JhsBot

Not ending before 10 October 2022 01:11 UTC

In the past few weeks I have developed a module+template that adds interwiki links from Wikidata to pages in the Wikimedia Incubator using arbitrary access, as well as a gadget that adds that template to pages. This is done because test wikis in the Wikimedia Incubator can't be connected to Wikidata in the same way that real wikis can. When a new wiki is created, it can some times take days or even weeks for sitelinks from Wikidata to be enabled. When that happens, I will run this bot manually, and it will only be run once per new wiki to add sitelinks to the pages that exist at the date of creation.

The script does two things in tandem: (1) It adds the sitelink to Wikidata, and (2) it removes the template from the page on the wiki. Therefore I have also filled an identical request for bot status on Wikidata.

Due to the nature of the task, it is not really possible to make the customary 50 test edits, at least not until the next time a new wiki is created. However, I have tested the script in sandbox items on Wikidata and subpages of my userpages on kcgwiki, but those have been requested for deletion since the tests are done. As new wikis are not global bot wikis by default, this would mean a 2 week delay before using the bot. --Rschen7754 01:59, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
@Rschen7754: Hmmm, that's a good point. Why aren't they global by default? They really should be. Are there any alternative approaches? Maybe temporary local status in each case? This would be a one-time run per wiki, and would likely take less than an hour each time (depending on the number of pages, of course). Jon Harald Søby (talk) 06:56, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
I have opened Requests for comment/Make all new wikis global bot wikis. --Rschen7754 03:53, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
I have done the same thing on new wikis in the past and I simply did it without a bot flag since it is a one time run. A bot flag does not hurt, but is also not really necesarry for this imo. --Zabe (talk) 23:21, 11 October 2022 (UTC)

Given that global bot status would not have the desired effect at the moment until the RFC started by Rschen7754 (thank you!) is resolved, I'd like to withdraw this application for the time being, and will start a new one when/if the RFC is resolved. Jon Harald Søby (talk) 10:37, 12 October 2022 (UTC)

Marked as   Request withdrawn then. --Martin Urbanec (talk) 12:12, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi. Isn't there an active bureaucrat there? --Sotiale (talk) 01:16, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
Local bureaucrat @Andrew Dalby is active. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 17:47, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
Thanks, I will ask him. Harej (talk) 17:54, 7 October 2022 (UTC)

Made request/test edits under local policy almost two years ago, no objection, and it also looks like the wiki has no active bureaucrats. Harej (talk) 03:31, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

AmgharBot@arywiki

Hello. I'm requesting bot status for my bot AmgharBot, which should also have sysop capabilities to carry out its operations. I'm already using two bots, PGVBot (for automated character and word replacement) and DarijaBot (for generic complex tasks). This bot was created exclusively to carry out tasks that require administrator rights, such as changing page protection, bulk delete of pages already marked for deletion, writing in protected pages, and blocking clearly disruptive IP users for a short time, while notifying human administrators. I prefer to have a separate adminbot to avoid potential interference and damage, and for safer and closer monitoring. If the sysop request should be done separately, please let me know. Ideophagous (talk) 17:39, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi @Ideophagous, thanks for your request. I think we can handle sysop request here as well, since it's an admin bot. However, I can only grant the bot temporary adminship (with expiry matching adminship on your own account), as it's usual for adminbots to be permitted only for bot operators who are also admins.
Can you please log in as the bot at ary.wikipedia first? I'm unable to grant any rights unless an account logged in to the wiki in the past. Thanks!

Hello @Martin Urbanec:. It's done! -- Ideophagous (talk) 16:24, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
Done @Ideophagous: Thanks! Rights granted (sysop expires on 2023-09-15, same as your main account). --Martin Urbanec (talk) 11:12, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

Removal of bot status

Tacsipacsi@wikibooks

No local bot policy, No local policy which allows bot status for human editor account permanently. So global policy should be followed? No active local crat, So requesting removal here. Admin with bot status for permanently is of too much of risk, given there are no other sysops or crats active on the project. QueerEcofeminist🌈 12:51, 29 September 2022 (UTC)

@Tacsipacsi:, courtesy ping. thanks QueerEcofeminist🌈 12:53, 29 September 2022 (UTC)
I should’ve somehow overlooked this rule. By the way, the right is not permanent, it’s for a specific task; I did plan to ask for removal of this right once I’m done the task. Unfortunately I haven’t got around finishing it for years… If I create a separate bot account, can a steward transfer the bot right there? —Tacsipacsi (talk) 17:24, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
It was given permanently. And years for a single task isn't too much of time? Seriously? For others you can't spare 21 hours and for your own sake years are small time? QueerEcofeminist🌈 17:54, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
Since I couldn’t estimate in advance how long the task would take, the only possible technical solution was an indefinite right. And yes, I agree (“Unfortunately…”) that years for a single one-time task is way too much time, I was just always thinking that I’ll get to finish it soon. Which finally happened today, thanks to you. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 22:03, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
Please, create a bot account. Ruslik (talk) 19:58, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
@Ruslik0: In the meantime, I realized that the work left was much less that I feared of, so I just went ahead and finished it. Please remove my bot right without transferring it anywhere; I’ll create a bot account the next time I need it. Sorry for the confusion and thanks in advance! —Tacsipacsi (talk) 22:03, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
