Definitions and caveats edit

The "platform" is Wikimedia Commons.
A "work" is a file, i.e. a page in the File: namespace that isn't a subpage.
When counting Creative Commons files, we're using categories that start with CC-. This is a good approximation of what we want to measure, but it's inexact. There are some false positives, most of which we explicitly exclude, like aircraft registration numbers. As for false negatives, files using Custom CC license tags are only counted if they appear in a category that follows the naming conventions of the main CC license categories.
