Semantic MediaWiki/Implementation/User Experience

Semantic MediaWiki looks and acts much the same as any MediaWiki.

Infobox

edit

The main change visible to users browsing pages on a MediaWiki with the extension installed is the infobox on the page that summarizes all the facts that SMW extracts from the page.

The facts are in the form of Relations to other articles such as "is located in California", and Attributes such as "population: 1,305,737".

Relations and Attributes

edit

Each relation and attribute in the infobox displays a link to a special semantic search page that displays all pages with the same relation ("is located in California") or attribute value ("population=1305737").

Geographic coordinate attributes display additional links to useful map sources.

The infobox displays attributes with units converted to their primary format, with other units displayed in parentheses. For example, "area: 963.6 km² (372.048 miles²)".

Unit tooltips

edit

The other change to article display is that attribute values with units display a tooltip (on browsers with JavaScript and CSS support) showing some unit conversions.
