How it works, and applications of this schema

edit

This schema is used to calculate the 7-day retention rate for the Wikipedia Android app

From #wikimedia-mobile:

[16:59] <HaeB> dbrant: [...] how does this work? is it correct to assume that the app generates that event every 24h, or whenever it is opened and more than 24h have passed since the last event?
[17:00] <dbrant> HaeB: that's exactly right -- the app sends an event when it's launched, if more than 24h have elapsed.

At this point, the sample rate is 1:100. Sample rate is 1:1

Caveat: Some of the events are generated by Googlebot, see phab:T117631.

iOS version

edit

We plan to add this to iOS in the next version. We will use 100% sample rate for the first version, since we are opt in and have a small user base.

iOS implementation task, for reference: phab:T126693. Regards, Tbayer (WMF) (talk) 21:58, 30 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Bugs and incidents

edit
  • In v6.0.1 and v6.0.2 of the iOS app, event logging gets stuck after initial events posted (see phab:T205551). Some of these events are queued and sent all at once after the bug was fixed in v6.1.1. Please use the client timestamp when querying data of this period (September and October 2018). See phab:T209422 for an example.
