San Diego Wikimedians User Group/2022 Annual Report
2022 annual report for San Diego Wikimedians User Group.
This page will provide a report of activates which the user group engaged in from 4 August 2021 until 3 August 2022.
While there are numerous individuals who have been active on various Wikimedia projects who live within the user group's geographic scope, the number of those individuals who have been active within the user group has stayed steady, until the summer of 2022. In the summer of 2022 Vahidmasrour moved outside of our geographic scope; we wish him the best of luck with his future endeavors, and that his future journeys allow him to come back and collaborate with our user group.
(2022 updates pending, old data follows..) Events have been held during each month during this year long reporting period. In August 2021 a meetup was held at the same time as Wikimania 2021. In September, and October, in-person presence/recruiting was attempted at Balboa Park. In November, there was an attempt to reach out to the local veteran community to teach them to edit. In December, a photography event occurred in the northeastern part of the county relating to the Battle of San Pasqual. In January 2022 there were two events, one was an attempt to do a photography event with a neighboring user group, and another was to celebrate Wikipedia Day. In February, and May, edit-a-thons were hosted at branch libraries within the San Diego Library system. In March, and June, in partnership with a librarian at the San Diego Central Library, edit-a-thons were held teaching individuals new to editing Wikipedia. In April, and July, food-centric casual meetups were held. Also in April, a meetup was held aboard the ex-U.S.S Iowa in San Pedro, Los Angeles.
(2022 updates pending, old data follows..) At the beginning of the reporting period, the user group continued its public out reach at Balboa Park. At the events, individuals were encountered, including existing Wikipedians who had not participated in in-person Wikipedia events before. Increased interaction with staff at various branches of the San Diego Library system has increased the likelihood of future user group events occurring within their facilities. We continue our efforts to gain more participation from existing users/editors of the various Wikimedia Foundation projects who live within the user groups geographic scope, and hope to gain new users/editors for the various Wikimedia Foundation projects. One member, Vid2vid, on Dec 1 2022 gave our (informal) website 'SDWiki(dot-org)' a refreshed, redone look and updates and a makeover.
(2022 updates pending, old data follows..) The user group had no active grants during this reporting period.
