This page will provde a report of activites which the user group engaged in from 2 August 2019 unil 3 August 2020.
Membership edit
While there are numerous individuals who have been active on various Wikimedia projects, including on topics on Wikipedia WikiProjects that fall within the user group's geographic scope, the number of individuals who have been active with the user group has not changed significantly.
Meetups edit
Events have been held during 11 of 12 months covered during this report period, with one meetup indefinitely postponed due to COVID-19/Wuhan Flu which was suppose to occur in April. Edit-a-thons occurred in Chula Vista (NOV), the Geisel Library (MAR), the San Diego Central Library (JAN), and the San Diego Convention Center (22 NOV, 25 NOV). Meetups occurred in the Anaheim Packing House (DEC), Balboa Park (OCT), Carrizo Gorge (OCT), Palomar Mountain State Park (AUG), and the Santa Margarita Ecological Reserve (FEB). A wiknic was held at La Jolla Shores (SEP). Due to COVID-19/Wuhan Flu, online events were held (MAY, JUN, JUL, AUG).
Community outreach edit
The user group has had contact with various organizations within its geographic scope. These include, but are not limited to: American Academy of Religion, Kavli Institute for Brain and Mind, SAID in STEM (at Salk Institute for Biological Studies), San Diego State University's Field Stations Program, Society of Biblical Literature, and Southwestern College. One member, Vid2vid, registered for informal use the domain name SDWiki(dot-org), on Apr 4, 2020. Its web contents are stored very inexpensively on Amazon Web Services (AWS) for practically (and always less than) a couple bucks $USD per month.
Grants edit
The user group closed a grant at the end of October 2020, filed its report, and the report was accepted. Later, the user group submitted another grant request for support of an edit-a-thon with the Salk Institute. When the community partner had to postpone hosting the event, we communicated with the WMF grants department and were advised to withdraw the grant, instead of using the funds for a different event. So the grant in question was canceled.
