In this project, we'll be extracting academic citations from the history of Wikipedia and observing their growing usage over time.
Methods
editTo identify and disambiguate scholarly works, we'll look for structured identifiers in wiki content. See mwcites for specifics.[1]

Summary analysis
editWe'll focus on the Dutch and English Wikipedia, but the same descriptive data can be generated for any other wiki using mvcites. A pre-processed dataset for scholarly citations in English Wikipedia is available.[2]
