I request sysop access on yo.wikipedia.org:

  • Language Code: yo
  • Local Request Link: none, there is no community yet. I have put a note on my user page there.
  • Local User Page: yo:User:Mark Dingemanse

I can read some Yoruba and I intend to get involved more on the Yoruba Wikipedia. Currently there is no admin yet, and the Yoruba Wikipedia is frequently targeted by vandals, several of whom keep coming back. These vandals need to be blocked. Aside from doing good work there with sysop rights, I might be able to find native speakers who'd like to contribute. I'm already an admin on the English Wikipedia, check my user page over there for more information.

note: I do not come by often at Meta, and though I'll certainly check back for this request both here and on my Yoruba user page, I'd appreciate a notice on my talk page over at :en, where I am most active as of now.

Thank you. — mark 13:14, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

Chichewa wikipedia

I request sysop access on Chichewa wikipedia:

  • Language Code: ny
  • Local Request Link: does not yet exist
  • Local User Page: ny:User:Lycaon

Thank you. Lycaon 12:29, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

By looking at Lycaon's contributions [5] and given the small size of the ny.wiki, I see no objections in granting him the sysop status, although a local procedure is not yet enforced. Done. --Paginazero 15:54, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
sorry, undone. sysophood is supposed to be granted by a community, not to be given by the lack of it, unless temporary, in case of emergencies. now, either a local request be granted if sufficient support exists, in which case i suggest two sysops instead of just one be granted sysophood (similar as with bureaucrats on a wiki where there are none as of yet), or we wait until there is a real community to elect them. oscar 21:55, 14 February 2006 (UTC)
I see your point. Thanks. I supposed that the request was aimed to have the technical possibility to translate the interface. If this is the case, I ask Lycaon either to apply for a temporary sysophood or to submit a table of the translations of the system messages that will be edited on ny.wiki by the stewards. --Paginazero 07:28, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
I understand. I'll try to warm the (untill now apparently non-existant) community. I'm not that fluent in Chichewa, so I will find some native speakers for the sysop job. Sorry for the confusion. Lycaon 17:02, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

My point was about the first part of the page (in English) which don't seem that the community agrees with you as bureaucrat. If in the Korean part there is stated this, please translate that part because we don't have Korean speakers as stewards. -Romihaitza 14:09, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Thanks in advance. --Ruben 11:32, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

I have made now an account on that wiki. My user ID is 23. I see no way how to justify making a bureacrat on that type of wiki. --Walter 22:57, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
The justification is that soon there will be a lot of members in this wiki, because I'm advertising the site on different Armenian sites like www.kirarakan.org, which is becoming one of the largest Armenian students portal (Kirarakan is the name of the faculty of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics). So I requested bureaucrat access on this wiki, so that I can make someone sysop if he really contributes much to wiki and will be very active participant in this project. Why me, because I can communicate with him in Armenian and understand if he really deserves sysop status. Thank you. --Ruben 07:01, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
I do not think that a steward is allowed to do make you bureaucrat in this situation. Steward are supposed to execute the requests and decisions of a community. You can go for sysop and if there other user later the can do the same. At least that is what I think of it. Maybe that there is there a other steward who is willing, I will not because I believe this is not what a steward is supposed to do in this case. --Walter 14:57, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, but I don't understand one thing: you are not allowed to make me bureaucrat because there are too few members in this wiki or because there are some other reasons? --Ruben 17:11, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
a bureaucrat is usually chosen among (active) sysops, who are themselves chosen among (active) users. bureaucratship at :hy:b seems pretty premature, as walter said. grtz, oscar 00:12, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
OK, I got that! Thanks. --Ruben 07:35, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

@JHS: sure it is difficult to understand, since the user Radouch is not the first, I by myself asked for the same just about a week ago; and some other users did delete their accounts today etc. There is and will be a problemm with many communities, first of all the amall ones, which do not have a support from outside and which are beeing established in countries with labile sociological background.
