Arguments in favour

edit

I think that a Newspeak Wiktionary would be a good addition to Wikipedia, as 1984 is a major work that, in my opinion, is a defining work of the 20th Century. There is a large number of people on the English Wikipedia that have put Newspeak userboxes on their userpages, and I am sure that many of them would like to participate.

However, I am finding difficulty to alert users about this page, due to Wikipedia's WP:CANVAS policy.

Arguments against

edit
  • I don't think this is a real language. "Newspeak" is a literary idea, developed by George Orwell, but there are no works written in newspeak. What's next? Orkish? Westron? --Johannes Rohr 14:01, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • After all, Newspeak is the only language whose vocabulary shrinks every year. There hasn't been a definitive "release" of newspeak vocabulary (other than Orwell's essay at the end of 1984, which is strictly grammatical). PTO 14:20, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
