This proposal has been approved. The Board of Trustees and language committee have deemed that there is sufficient grounds and community to create the new language project. A committee member provided the following comment: |
- The community needs to develop an active test project; it must remain active until approval (automated statistics, recent changes). It is generally considered active if the analysis lists at least three active, not-grayed-out editors listed in the sections for the previous few months.
- The community needs to complete required MediaWiki interface translations in that language (about localization, translatewiki, check completion).
- The community needs to discuss and complete the settings table below:

Hi,
I wish to open Wiktionary project for Konkani language. Vocabulary, meanings, usage and other dictionary-related information about Konkani language is scattered across the Web. I wish to see this project created, to give a wiki platform for such hitherto individual efforts.

1) Konkani language is culturally distinct from Marathi and Kannada
2) Konkani has a rich repertoire of words, idioms and usages.
3) Konkani language is phonetically different, just as French and English.

4) Konkani is one of the nationally-recognised languages of India
5) It is a small language, and badly needs online support to grow
6) An online dictionary (such as Wiktionary) would help the language to grow
7) Even a Google Translate for Konkani is currently lacking
8) Presently, there is near a total lack of online support for the language
9) Wikipedia/media can demonstrate that it doesn't discriminate against small languages
10) Linguistic diversity and promotion of smaller languages is a good goal

- i too am in favour of a konkani wiktionary...infact a konkani wiki...if need be you may take recourse to the GSB konkani-english online dictionary to see that it is indeed an independent languaage

- I am also in favour of a Wiktionary in Konkani. However, we must acknowlege that the language is written in a number of scripts, with the most widely used scripts being the Roman and the official Devanagari Script. In order to have a successful wiktionary, its important that both the Roman and Devanagari script are given equal importance.
