This page should be opened due of its importance as the rusyn language. It is protected in EU by an European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages.

Arguments in favour edit

  • There are at least 600.000 speakers of Rusyn language
  • An official language in Vojvodina
  • Protected under European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages in Slovakia, Serbia, Croatia and Romania
  • In every day usage in Zakarpattia Oblast (part of the current Ukraine)
  • also Southern Poland, Hungary, Northern Romania, Serbia, Croatia
  • Many active Rusyns live in Canada, the USA and S. America.
  • 15 years since codify of Rusyn language
  • Rusyn language was recognized as a minority language in Slovakia, enjoying the status of official language in municipalities where more than 20% of the inhabitants speak Rusyn
  • Every nation has its own dialects and the differences between dialects of Rusyns (except for Vojvodina Rusyn) are not great. Rusyns were divided into several countries and therefore many of the particular administrative language concepts taken over from the states in which they live. The current state of Rusyns in Slovakia is alarming. It is only from 5 primary schools, where the Rusyn language learning. Radio and television broadcasting is also minimal and not enough books in the Rusyn language. History and culture of Rusyns has long been and still is ignored. Rusyn Wikipedia could serve as an easily accessible comprehensive source of information in the Rusyn language
  • Obviously, argument against came from Ukrainian contributor and he did not mentioned that Rusyn idea is not supported by Ukrainian therefore there is not official regulation of Rusyn language in Ukraina from political reasons. But official regulation of the Rusyn language already exists in Slovakia, where exists also official state academic institute (University of Presov) taking care for Rusyn language.
  • Academic institute for Rusyns exists and it is fully active. - Presov University.
  • Rusyns are getting to be assimilated in lot of countries specially in Slovakia and Poland. In Hungary they are already assimilated and only several people know Rusyn language there. Rusyn wikipedia could help to share wiki information for Rusyn and could be also used for extending the usage of the language.
  • not all Rusyns in Slovakia understand well Ukrainian (although some people consider Rusyn language as dialect of Ukrainian) or Polish language. Rusyns in Ukraine do not understand well Slovak and Polish language as well as Rusyns in Poland do not understand Slovak or Ukrainian language well. One common language for all Rusyns, which could replace Rusyn language in Wikipedia does not exists. Rusyn language is only one, that is perfectly understandable for all Rusyns.   1. Support: Native speakers of Rusyn have the competency and willingness to contribute to this project in the long-term.   6. Support. I see no reasons why this language souldn't have own wikipedia. It may lack official regulation and standardization and consist of different dialects, but many other langauges with similar situation do have their wikipedias (West Flemish, for example). V. Arguments against edit

  • Rusyn language has many dialects, that significantly differ from each other, even the alphabet is different. There is no official regulation of this language. English Wikipedia article shows examples of texts in three completely different dialects that are used in Vojvodina, Poland and Slovakia. Even the name of the language is different: here the name of the language is spelled as русинский, here (link #1) it is called русиньскый. In my opinion, it would be rather difficult to create an encyclopaedia in a language without any common norm — NickK 14:15, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The Ukrainian language also a dialect of the Russian. In Hungary and Czechoslovakia was the Rusyn educated language and the Rusyns separate minority. The soldiers of the Red Army make Ukrainians from the Rusyns, that massacre the Rusyn intellectual people: teachers, writers, priests. Ukrainian language is not dialect of the Russian. It would be more fair to say that the Russian is a dialect of the Ukrainian language from historical perspective. Why wouldn't we crate Swiss German Wiki or New York English? --91.124.53.245 22:50, 2 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
In any case both these language have academic dictionaries and deeply developed spelling rules (for Ukrainian see [1] and [2]). Rusyn have none of this. And Wikipedia іsn't a place for such developing because of en:WP:OR --A1 09:10, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Here is one of dictionary from Presov Univerzity [3] and here are described rules [4] and [5]. Also there is Polish versions which can be used by Polish Rusyns. Based on these rules exists Hunspell spell checker for Rusyns [6] with possibility to check ~50000 words with ~400 rules which can be used in browser like Firefox or Opera as well as Openoffice spell check extensions [7] Gazeb 14:52, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You in vain explain, the Rusyn is autonom language. So what the Swiss German? The Rusyn language is not "racially inferior" Ukrainian dialect as have none dictionaries, grammar and other. Few language have none of this and not dialects. What good is it: neologism, language-purism. I not accept "the Rusyn is futile dialect," as the "official expertises" in the Soviet Era was evens with the ramps, falsifications, bullyings.   •   "Rusyn language" is not a language but a group of dialects only. See "en:Rusyn language#Dialects" - this demonstrates the diffrence between these dialects quite good. So the first question must be - what Rusyn dialect is proposed to use in "Rusyn Wikipedia" - Pannonian Rusyn, Lemko-Prešov dialect, Lemko-Gorlic dialect, or maybe somebody do an original research miximg this dialects?? Yes, this last blackballs were born in this discussion [8]. Some of Ukrainians are againts Rusyn wikipedia as they are considering all Rusyns to be Ukrainians. But in my opinion Wikipedia should support also Rusyn version as it is supporting also other dialects. However it is already approved and we hopefully can concentrate the energy for real wiki site rue.wikipedia.org. Gazeb 15:59, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Interestingly this time was arrive few blackball, as earlier was not blackballs, when start up the program of the Rusyn Wiki. Hello, you are right, Лябданиця is not correct. I thought before that it should be for page like "Трг" on Serbian wiki or "Pod lipou" on Czech wiki. Regarding the interface translation, I could not find this namespace translation possibility at site translatewiki.net.
