Arguments in favour edit

Arguments against edit

  • Oppose. I don't think that this project will be "successful", if you would say.
  • I am a Wikipedian contributing to the Turkish Wikipedia and I am an admin there, since 2006. I should say that we could not establish a solid ground to maintain NPOV in trwiki yet. We still have a long way to go as a community. I guess maintaining NPOV in the news will be even harder than the pedia. I fear that it will be far away from neutrality if opened now.
  • I have similar concerns regarding the free content and our copyright policy. If opened now, Turkish Wikinews will be full of copy-pasted articles from the Turkish newspaper sites, which are copyrighted of course. I dont think that there is a community large enough to fight against that successfully. Such a news site will be of no use to the Turkish speaking people of the world.
  • I think that we should wait for the news project. We need time to build a strong, responsible tr wiki-community first. I think the Turkish Wikipedia is a school for us, and we need to learn much more to maintain another project such a tough one like the news. -Tembelejderha 20:29, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. If we only take into account official policy and requirements for a new Wikinews; this one could seem to satisfy them all. However, I oppose because I believe such projects should not be opened based only on afew technical requirements. I don't think that there is a sustainable community for a Turkish Wikinews at the moment, nor will there be any in the very near future; and existence of a sustainable community is everything when it comes to a wiki project. I have been a sysop and CU in Turkish Wikipedia for year and every now and then I receive notifications from a great variety of wiki users from different projects to "come and help" on certain issues in Turkish language projects such as Turkish Wikisource, Wiktionary or Wikiquote. Stewards are usually confused as most are not Turkish speakers, and since there are often very very few or no active sysops, nor an active community, these projects only produce problems and often drown in small problems (such as blatant vandalism). For example, many trolls and vandals blocked from Turkish Wikipedia find suitable conditions in less popular and less populated Turkish language wiki projects and problems they cause are then brought to well known and experienced users in Turkish Wikipedia to give advice or to interfere as if Wikipedia users have any special right to interfere. As one of those users, bugged occasionally to interfere, I am displeased with this situation and hence I oppose, believing that we will only re-live what we are living at the moment with many projects (such as Turkish Wiktionary) with Turkish Wikinews in the near future, if it is to be opened. - Noumenon 00:34, 10 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
