Wikimedia RU Activities Report 2015

Imagine a world in which every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge. That's our commitment.

Non-Commercial Partnership of promotion of distribution of encyclopedic knowledge Wikimedia RU is a legally independent Russian Non-Governmental organization. Wikimedia RU is the part of the international Wikimedia Movement, all the participant of which share mission of collection, creation, management and dissemination of freely-accessible knowledge. Therefore, most activities of Wikimedia RU are related to the Wikipedia Internet Encyclopedia, the Wikipedia Movement's most important achievement up to date.

So, the Wikimedia RU activies may be grouped in the following way:

• Internal Events and contests in order to help the volunteers and to motivate them.
• External activities including outreach and contacts with officials and right holders in order to changes Russian legislation and regulations, to pesuade the right holders to agree the changes and release their works under free license.
• Exchange of experience and best practices with other parts of the Wikimedia Movement.
• Fundraising and sposorship seeking.

Contests

Wikimedia RU organized several contests with prizes in cooperation with other organizations, to motivate the authors.

• 2016-11-07 .. 12-25 Serbian marathon.12 participants, 247 articles written.

Wikimedia RU organized several events in order to motivate the authors and to popularize Wikipedia and the free content in general.

• 2016-01-15 Celebration of 15-years of Wikipedia in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ufa, and Yakutsk.
• 2016-03-22 ECSP award ceremony in Mercury City Tower in Moscow.
• 2016-03-25 .. 04-03 Bashkir wiki-seminar in Yangantau (mostly organized by Wikimedian Bashkortostan User Group).
• 2016-05-06 .. 05-09 Fenno-Ugric seminar in Petrozavodsk.
• 2016-05-16 VI Wiki-Prize award ceremony and III Free Knowledge award ceremony in ArtPlay, Moscow.
• 2016-09-14 Jimbo talk in Moscow.
• 2016-09-23 .. 26 Ural Wiki-Seminar in Izhevsk.
• 2016-10-01 .. 02 Annual Wiki-Conference in St. Petersburg.
• 2016-11-26 Section in IV Siberian Tatar language forum in Tyumen.

This year Wikimedia RU extended Wiki-Excursions/Wiki-Museums branch.

• 2016-03-03 Wiki-Excursion to Darwin Museum.
• 2016-03-03 .. 31 Exposition of 25 ESCP contest winning photos in Darwin Museum.
• 2016-03-22 Wiki-Excursion to Mercury City Tower in Moscow.
• 2016-05-09 Wiki-Excursion to Kizhi.
• 2016-06-11 Wiki-Excursion to Cosmonautics museum in Kaluga. Also visited several cultural objects near the road between Moscow and Kaluga.
• 2016-07-01 .. 07-30 Ultra Trail Baikal Wiki-Expedition.
• 2016-08-06 Wiki-Excursion to Podmoskovnoye Depot in Moscow.
• 2016-08-13 .. 14] Wiki-Excursion to Vladimir and Suzdal. Also several cultural objects visited near the road between Moscow, Vladimir and Suzdal.
• 2016-09-24 Wiki-Excursion to Ludorvaj, Udmurtia.
• Uniformologia project supported.
• Cooperation with Kaliningrad Amber Museum. It released a lot of photos and other works under CC-BY-SA 4.0 free license.

Legal issues, Laws, Regulations, Litigations, GR

• 2016-02-09 Participation in Cyber Security Forum/i-SAFETY, discussion with State Duma communication commission head on changes in drafts of laws on web sites blocking.
• 2016-03-03 Meeting of Institute of Development of Internet expert council

Wikimedia RU participated a lot of events in order to promote Wikimedia Movement values and to ecourage others to participate Wikimedia projects.

• 2016-03-02 Talk "What is Wikipedia. How and why does it work." in MSU, Moscow.
• 2016-03-04 Talk on Wikipedia and Wikidata at Open Data Day conference, Moscow.
• 2016-03-09 Master class on writing articles in Wikipedia in MSU, Moscow.
• 2016-03-24 Talk on free/open licenses at Science and culture in open access round table, Moscow.
• 2016-05 .. 06 Educational program in MSU, 1st semester, talks about Wikipedia, 70 students, 72 articles written, 66 of which approved by scientific reivewers (35 Ph.D's and Doctors in Psychology).
• 2016-11 .. 12 Educational program in MSU, 1st semester, 60 studets, 73 articles written, all approved.

Participation in Wikimedia Movement events

Wikimedia RU excahnge experience with other Wikimedia Movements entities and provides travel grants to the community members.
