I propose closing the Nynorsk Wikipedia. The reason for proposing this is that I believe that we already have a Norwegian wikipedia. Nynorsk is really kind of a Norwegian dialect, and 95% of the Norwegian population do not write Nynorsk. Nynorsk as a language is almost identical to Bokmål Norwegian, with only some changes to the word endings. The fact that there actually are two Norwegian Wikipedias may be misleading and confusing for some users. Merging Nynorsk and Bokmål Wikipedia to a Norsk Wikipedia, will make the content more easily accessible and less difficulty finding what people want. 1. Oppose, you don't close a working wiki with 50 000 articles, and nynorsk is it's own language, not a dialect. Laaknor 14:11, 4 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Oppose, being "kind of a dialect" is no reason for closing. Besides, if you count NN as a dialect, you could easily argue the same for Dansk, it's very close too. --თოგო (D) 14:15, 4 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Oppose, this proposal shouldn't have been made in the first place, as the resulting Norwegian language flame war is going to seriously disrupt both Bokmål and Nynorsk wikis. Profoss 14:22, 4 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  4. Oppose, merging Nynorsk and Bokmål Wikipedia would lead to great confusion as they might be even more different than the no: and da: languages. It seems to me that the proposer is not sufficiently competent ("...Nynorsk as a language is almost identical to Bokmål Norwegian...") for comparing those languages. 5. Oppose, frivolous proposal. Do not disrupt Wikipedia to illustrate a point. - Soulkeeper 14:30, 4 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  6. Oppose, many German language-dialects (Bavarian, Friisian, Colognian and many more) have their own wikis. Eisfbnore 14:32, 4 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  7. Oppose, It is at least 5 years too late to even propose to close that project. There may be language-theoretical considerations that make NN a dialect, but in the real world it is a language. Without much effort it is mutual understandable with Bokmål, but so is Swedish and Danish. Yet all these 4 languages (dialects of Scandinavian?) have each their own Wikipedia that is growing at a sustainable rate. The nn project is healthy, producing original articles that are and can be translated into other projects. Apart from that, closing nn would make the language situation within the merged project difficult. Probably difficult enough to make many productive project members quit. Comments

  • Not only is the behaviour of MichaelJackson231 disrupting and utterly disrespectful to the language form in question, but the reasons for closure are also primarily based upon factually incorrect information. The wikipedia in question also has a relatively high level of activity. For these reasons, the proprosal should be dismissed without further ado. --Harald Khan Ճ 14:35, 4 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Can someone just remove this proposal, it is pure trolling. Nynorsk is one of two official forms of written Norwegian. I would propose at the same time that the user posting the proposal being blocked from making additional such proposals. Thanks. — Jeblad 14:54, 4 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
