Proposals for closing projects/Closure of Mongolian Wikipedia

This is a proposal for closing and/or deleting a wiki hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation. It is subject to the current closing projects policy.

The proposal for closing mn: is rejected and the project will be kept open.

  • A Language Committee member provided the following comment:
Quick closure. This proposal (made by a new account whose first edits are this proposal) certainly is an act of trolling and the discussion is "harmful, with no reasonable possibility of a decision to close the wiki", as required by the CPP. I am only not deleting this because real users have already commented. --MF-W 12:30, 6 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal to soft close Wikipedia in Mongolian language edit

Mongolian language is spoken by 9 million Mongolian people. And Mongolian Wikipedia has over 20000 pages. But that 20000 pages doesn't have enough information (almost every page has only up to 5 sentences-and that is very short) and nobody cares and edit it. And recently I see that it used as a trolling site. (You can see it in edit history of https://mn.wikipedia.org/wiki/Амьсгалах_процесс). Sometimes it gives false news that is originated from gossip. For that reason, Mongolians saying, "Search from other sites instead of Wikipedia", "Don't trust information on Wikipedia". And people who has English, they use English Wikipedia which has better quality than Mongolian one.

In my opinion, its pages should be deleted and restart from zero.

Oppose edit

  • Oppose. Mongolian wikipedia should not be closed because there is not enough information on some topics.

Users of a country with a language spoken by hundreds of millions of people may have less than 20,000 pages, but this is not a small number for Mongolia. It's too cruel to destroy everything and start over. Developing existing information is more useful and less time-consuming than creating new ones.Megzer (talk) 13:54, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. Restarting the site would bring the same problems of vandalism and non engagement, and you are always free to edit articles, request that articles be deleted, and create good articles yourself. But I think this merits a discussion (assuming this isn't a troll post). What would make the Mongolian Wikipedia work for you? Willing to work together and contribute. --chinneeb-talk 14:14, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. We are enriching Wikipedia in this language by creating new pages and improving and categorizing existing pages every day.--MongolWikiNew (talk) 00:39, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
