St. Petersburg, Florida, July 7, 2006
This week, Angela Beesley resigned from the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees.
Beesley made the decision to resign a month ago, intending for the resignation to go into effect July 1. The Board of Trustees had been trying to find someone to fill the vacancy on an interim basis, but was unable to do so in that time. Instead, Beesley's resignation is effective once her replacement has been elected. The Wikimedia Foundation Board passed a resolution accepting her resignation on June 26, 2006. The news was first reported on July 1 in the Wikizine, after which Beesley confirmed it in a message to the Wikimedia Foundation mailing list.
Angela has been a Wikipedia contributor for many years, and was elected to the board in mid-2004. She intends to continue to contribute in an editorial capacity, and to assist in forming the Wikimedia Foundation's Australia chapter.
Angela's vacant seat on the Foundation board will be filled in an election, the details of which will be forthcoming.
