Photography and Article Competition of Assamese Wikipedia, 2012
Name
editPhotography and Article Competition of Assamese Wikipedia
Photography Competition
editScope
editThis WikiProject's primary aim is to encourage the contribution and improvement of photographs on Wikipedia. The project seeks to act as a focal point for photographers, photo editors, and digital artists such that requests to improve articles with photographs and the photographs themselves can be dealt with in a timely manner. Hopefully this project will act as a noticeboard for photographers and interested editors. We hope to raise CC-by-SA media related to Assam in the internet through Wikipedia, as such media is very less in the internet compared to other parts of our country. We believe this would act as vehicle to showcase natural and cultural heritage of Assam internationally.
Goals
edit- To increase the quality media and articles related to Assam.
- To attract non-text contributors photographers, graphic artists to Assamese wiki projects
- To create a model precedent for cooperation with WMF in organising projects.
Rules
edit- The photographs must depict "Information about Assam." The subjects may range from flora and fauna to tourist spots, indigenous instruments to cultural forms or anything that depicts some information about Assam.
- All works submitted should be uploader's own work. Any uploaded content would be considered to be uploader's own by default. We strongly discourage you not to upload other's work, or copy other's work. If any content is found to be copied or stolen from other's works, such content would be summarily deleted from the contest and also from Wikipedia.
- A small description of the of the context of the image is preferable, as this helps to establish the importance of the subject. However, this is not mandatory.
- Please remember that the first goal of the photographs is to 'dissipate information,' and keeping that in focus, all kinds of creative inputs are more than welcome. Judgment would take into consideration the artistic depiction of the subject beyond a mere record purpose image.
- There is no upper limit to the number of media that can be submitted. Contestants are free to upload any number of images for the competition. Contestants are also free to upload a series of images concerning a particular topic, or any other such classifying ways.
- Photographs may or may not have a caption. However, a descriptive title is needed while uploading the image, and a descriptive title helps to search and find the image. Putting the description in English raises the scope of finding it in search engines. So, we encourage you to give English description, but it is not mandatory. You may also use Assamese for the description, but not other languages.
- Glamour photos, nudity, discrimination, defamation or any such 'socially unacceptable message bearing' images are not welcome. In fact, such images would be summarily deleted. In this regard, decision taken by the judges are final and binding.
- Images above 640pixel (length or breath) and resolution above 72dpi are acceptable. However, as higher resolution and bigger pictures can show more details, so we prefer better resolution and bigger images. So, a higher resolution and bigger images are more than welcome.
- Images accepted should be in png, gif, jpg, jpeg, xcf, pdf, svg, djvu, tiff, or tif format.
- Only color and B&W photos are accepted.
- Digital effects that compromise the originality of the photograph are not acceptable.
- Images should not contain any watermark, copyright mark, photographer's name, caption, date and time stamp or any other artifacts added during post-production. Be considerate while compressing an image so that it does not reduce necessary details.
- If you are using a scanner to scan photos from prints, then please mention that it is a scanned photo.
- All images uploaded will automatically fall under CC-by-SA (Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike) licence. Once uploaded the uploader cannot take away photos. You may view the conditions of the license here.
- Judges decision will be final and binding.

edit- Preferably images should be uploaded to Assamese Wikipedia.
- If for any difficulty, you cannot upload to Wikipedia you may mail your images to the following e-mail id, assamesewikipedia@yahoo.com. Please remember to add Assamese Wikipedia Photo Contest as the subject of the mail. Administrators of the contest will upload the mailed photos to the Wikipedia, with contestant's name.
