Organizational effectiveness/Tool/Future

This page is for documenting ideas about the future of the organizational effectiveness tool.

Open questions

edit
  • Is the tool useful to Wikimedia organizations?
  • If the tool is useful to Wikimedia organizations:
    • Who will "own" the tool in the future?
    • Where will the tool "live"?
  • How much support do Wikimedia organizations need to make the most of the tool, if any?

Smaller changes to consider

edit
  • Simplify language, and make it more readable for all users.
  • Look for redundant content that can be merged or left out.
  • See if any responses are too leading, and can be more open to different angles.
  • Make it clear that users do not need to answer every question.
  • Simplify key instructions.
  • When contacting users, make sure they know who should be taking the tool or serving as a point person to avoid confusion.

Big changes to consider

edit
  • Add an "I don't know" or "Not applicable option". Need more technical advice on this.
  • Make the tool available in more languages.
  • Move the tool from a Wiki to a more automated format: introduction / multiple choice form / results / customized recommendations.
Pros: The tool will be easier and simpler to use, especially for organizations wanting to explore only one or two strategies.
Cons: It will be more difficult to work together on recommendations that it would be on a wiki. The system may be less open and require more management from whomever is overseeing the tool. The tool may be less "owned" by the community.
  • Move the tool to a system that allows the user to save progress and return to the tool at another time. This could not be done in Survey Monkey, but can be done in other systems (such as Qualtrics).
  • Consider tracks or versions of the questionnaire for different groups of stakeholders. This may increase complexity and cause problems with self-identification.
  • Consider tracks or versions of the questionnaire for different organization types. This may increase complexity and cause problems with self-identification.
  • Options for more "customizability".

Challenges

edit
  • Keeping the tool confidential. After the initial phase of the project, the TCC Group will not be managing the tool and so it will be difficult to find a way to keep results confidential from the Wikimedia Foundation.
  • Getting more community involvement in building the Learning Center.
  • Organizations have limited time and need to complete a lot of other reports.
  • Building a tool for a diverse group of organizations that works well for all.
  • Building a tool for a diverse group of organizations that is comprehensive enough, but not too long.
