Workshop Wikiquote in collaboration with Wikimedia Chile

In October and November 2021, we organize, as every year, Months of African Cinema in the Spanish Wikipedia, with the collaboration of different wikipedians. In this challenge, 631 new articles were created. We participated in the #shesaid campaign 2021.

In November and December 2021 we organized Wiki Loves Women, as we do every year on Wikiquote in Spanish. This time 17 new articles were created and 3 women new users participated.

We also organize, as every year, Interwiki Women Collaboration V, whith 57 new articles created.

We participate in ¡ALTO! mujeres trabajando in collaboration with oyher users groups of the region. Throughout the year we held meetings with Wikimedians from other user groups or chapters in the region to offer them collaboration. We are in permanent contact with the women working in the Latin American chapters and user groups to increase learning, sharing, partnering, and all forms of collaboration.

We are setting up a new project at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Buenos Aires to help students learn how to edit Wikipedia.

This year we reached 87 editor members, we have a blog and we have 242 members in our group in Facebook who are following us. We decided to stop using the Dashboard because it was not working well.

During the whole year we were doing one workshop per month to teach women how to edit Wikipedia, what the main features are and how the information is constructed. Once a month workshops to teach them how to edit in Wikiquote. We improve and/or update data and/or references to sources in content about women. We had a second instance, during the whole year, of virtual follow-up, accompaniment and advise in the search and research of content to update and improve the existing information in Wikipedia and Wikiquote. Another task we did was to review all new users contributions to show them their mistakes and correct new articles to avoid the deletion. Many articles were left in the sandbox created for that purpose. A total of 20 Spanish-speaking women living in different countries, including the United States, that they had never edited, participated in the workshops. Not all the women participated in the same workshops, but many repeated their attendance. Our short-term goal was to train these women and in the long term to follow up on their contributions and accompany them so that they remain in editing. We hope that these women will collaborate to improve the quality of existing articles of Wikipedia, adding gender perspective on them and adding relevant information actually missing. We also use it as a space for reflection on the importance of digitizing heritage to preserve culture in Wikimedia Commons. The atmosphere was always very warm and intimate and the feedback from all women was very good.

Our User Group has a good relationship with all the affiliates whose scope overlaps with our group,. The collaboration with Ennegreciendo Wikipedia did not work well because the girls from Ennegreciendo could not travel. However, the Dominican girls were able to make a workshop. In the Wikipedia and Wikiquote workshops we did not focus on creating new articles but on teaching you how to edit correctly and learn the rules of our projects. We create some videos to teach them. We have also been working in collaboration with Wikimedia Chile and with Wikimedia Small Projects in Spanish.

We also did two workshops to explain how to work on Wikimedia Commons, how to upload images and licensing.

We are  participating in the global discussions about implementation of the recommendations and Movement governance. We participate in the dissemination and review of the strategy's recommendations and principles. Within our objectives, the main discussion now is how to eliminate the gender gap, how to achieve inclusion of underrepresented groups in our community and projects, how to better attract and retain new and diverse volunteers, and how we can provide safety and inclusion to our members. We participated in several activities like Hubs: conversaciones globales 2022, Ratificación del Código de Conducta Universal, SWAN meeting, we partipated in Telegram Groups of SWAN public chat, Wiki User Groups Affiliates, Iberocoop, Wikimedia+Education, Grupo de Gobernanza de Wikimedia, The Afrocine Project, Diversity Equity and Inclusion, Wikimedia Small Projects in Spanish, WM Election volunteers, WM Election Volunteers Español, Wikimedia General chat, Wikimania chat, Wiki Gender Gap.
