New private AbuseFilter: LTA 404

Recently, some LTAs made bad edits to pages related to me, including my talk page itself. This filter would block users who make actions that match the following rule:

I request an evaluation of the situation involving the user page initially created on ptwiki and later deleted for violating the local user page policy.

After the deletion, the page was recreated with the same content as a global user page, apparently to circumvent the decision and make the page reappear on ptwiki, the only project where the user is active. This practice contradicts part of the global user page policy, according to GUP#Content, which states that the content of the global user page should not be considered inappropriate in the projects where it is displayed. New edit filter: Very short translation creation

Disallow actions that meet the following rule:

!("confirmed" in user_groups) & (new_size < 30) & (page_title rlike "/.{2,3}$")

Checking the suffix of the page title is impossible to do with page_namespace, and titles that match the regex are [nearly] always translations.  Declined – there are too many very short translations (e.g. one-word headings) which would be affected by such a filter. I don't think it would be that useful. If the original text is itself short there is nothing to "build on" a short translation of that. So clearly the hits for this filter would contain non-vandalistic and good edits as well. Along with that, translation vandalism is not limited to translations less than 30 bytes. This is not private data, but rather a large amounts of comments and chats on WMF-Discord, which is a public platform accessible via an open link. No private or personally identifiable information will be shared. However, the content is not suitable for upload to Commons.

The chats clearly show that the complainant has been coordinating with a few users (including a global sysop who recently misused his rights following a lost vote on eswikiquote) in efforts to sabotage eswiki. Furthermore, in those chats the complainant has referred to a significant number of users in extremely offensive terms.

A case against the global sysop involved will be opened on Meta once the U4C concludes its current case. Additional cases will also be initiated against other eswiki users who participated in the Discord chats and engaged in similar behavior, including canvassing and personal attacks. These cases will likely be addressed — at least initially — eswiki, but an escalation to meta cannot be ruled out.

It’s important to note that eswiki does not support local file uploads and relies on Wikimedia Commons for file hosting. However, this type of content is not suitable for Commons. Alternatively the information would have to be uploaded to external servers. SFBB (talk) 19:41, 13 May 2025 (UTC)

Update to filter 79

I am suggesting an update to Special:AbuseFilter/79, given that its run time is currently 1.26 ms and it consumes 1.7 conditions right now:

• Instead of page_age, I used page_id, which is more efficient in checking for page creations.
• I added new_size > 0 to exclude empty page creations, they are covered by Special:AbuseFilter/222.
• I removed the unnecessary autoconfirmed user right exclusion check, given that we have the edit count check already.
• Instead of using regex, I used a !contains_any(lcase(added_lines) condition, which is probably easier to maintain.

The updated code is the one to implement:

Correct several special pages

I don't know whether an interface administrator is needed to make the following correction.

In the special page "User rights" of a temporary account IP viewer, for instance Special:UserRights/NicoScribe, the group name "Temporary account IP viewers" uses the redirect page Meta:Temporary account IP viewer, which is a link to Meta:Temporary account IP viewers. Instead of the redirect page Meta:Temporary account IP viewer, we should use the direct link Meta:Temporary account IP viewers.

In several special pages, the name of the global user group Global temporary account IP viewers is incorrect:

• in Special:GlobalGroupPermissions/global-temporary-account-viewer, the "Localised name of group" is "Temporary account IP viewers" (but it should be "Global temporary account IP viewers") and the "Localised name of group members" is "temporary account IP viewer" (but it should be "global temporary account IP viewer")
  • I suppose that these corrections of Special:GlobalGroupPermissions/global-temporary-account-viewer will automatically correct the problems below
• in Special:GlobalGroupPermissions, the group name is "Temporary account IP viewers": it should be "Global temporary account IP viewers"
• in CentralAuth of users, for instance in Special:CentralAuth/Arcyon37, the global group is named "Temporary account IP viewers": it should be "Global temporary account IP viewers"
• in Special:GlobalUsers, when we choose the group, the text is "Temporary account IP viewers": it should be "Global temporary account IP viewers"
• in Special:GlobalUsers, when we click "Go", we see the accounts but, next to their names, the text is "temporary account IP viewer": it should be "global temporary account IP viewer"

Updating the localised name of the group to include "global" in the name can be done. As mentioned above by Hide on Rosé, this would be done by updating MediaWiki:Group-global-temporary-account-viewer and MediaWiki:Group-global-temporary-account-viewer-member. I would agree with Xaosflux that the way to update this is to request this on Phabricator.

I can file the Phabricator task for this and get this moving. Thanks for the comment here.

I ask to apply an Iban

Hello administrators, I ask you to apply an Iban upon Guycn2, who is not a meta administrator nor a meta rollbacker.

Reasons: I have already explained my editing here, and was thanked by a Meta administrator and a global rollbacker.
I also explained here, here, here and here, but got an edit warring accompanied by an LTA.
Please see also here (stiff discussions written in Hebrew) and here (a forbidden editing of my own text in the U4C main page).
My text was copied at least twice from one space to another space, and I do not agree that my text would appear without its history. It violates the CC BY-SA 4.0 license, and I explained also it. Meta does not have a copied template. I have the right that my text would remain in its original space, or it would not appear elsewhere without its history.

Not done As said, enwiki policies do not apply to Meta. Furthermore, request to implement an IBAN is denied. To my best believes and intentions, admins sometimes act per precedence and I don't think Meta deserves IBANs - especially as it is a safe haven for parties in conflict and hosts resolution capacities. A09, I apologize for not reading the Meta administrators list. I removed the Sl link, because it was less relevant now.

CC BY-SA 4.0 license is valid also in Meta. I do not want to see my own text in another space than the one which I wrote there, especially when it was moved twice.

Here I add a Meta link:

"5. Meta is not a mirror — content added to Meta must be released under a license compatible with the CC-BY-SA 4.0 license with the understanding that it may be edited mercilessly.

A09, who is a Meta admin, agreed with my editing in that talk page. Guycn2 is not admin and also did not participate the RFC in question. It was last edited three months ago.

I do not understand what are you trying to emphasise. I agree, editing others' comments is disapproved from the community however the license given still allows copying comments of others or them being modified elsewhere. User:Guycn2 continues their edit wars and LTA on the talk page in question.

RFC policy is: Meta administrators and stewards can either collapse or move to the talk page discussion(s) that are unproductive (i.e. unconstructive, uncollaborative, ad hominem/personal attacks, unsubstantiated accusations, off-topic).

User:איתמראשפר made this RFC. They are not Meta administrator nor steward.

Therefore, I did not accept copying my own text to that talk page.

User:Barkeep49 also asked איתמראשפר why they copied the text to the talk page. Its history is kept in the original RFC page, including my comment, and copying it to the talk page was not permitted by the RFC policy.

Therefore, I would suggest to delete the talk page completely, because its text was not as described by the RFC policy.

The RFC is also old, more than three months ago, and nobody deals with it, except Guycn2, which did not participate this RFC at all.

Alternatively, blocking user:Guycn2 from harassing me on that talk page is possible.
