Meta:Requests for adminship/Theo10011

Hi, I would like to request an adminship on Meta. I am mainly active on the English Wikipedia, I have been an admin and a bureaucrat on Strategic Planning Wiki for a while, I used to help out with general requests and Vandal patrolling, I want to help with the same here since Strategy Wiki is not that active anymore. I am familiar with the sysop tools, and would be willing to help out in any way I can. Thanks for your consideration. Theo10011 20:20, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose. Sorry, but looking through your contributions, I don't really see any participation in maintenance tasks here in Meta. That makes me wonder why you would need admin tools for vandal fighting if you haven't even started contributing in that area yet. I see you do have some experience with the admin tools from strategywiki,[1][2][3] but I would expect some actual work in admin-related areas here to be able to support. Jafeluv 20:51, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]- So I am qualified to use Admin-tools by your own examples but because I have not done any admin-related work on Meta I am unqualified, I did not know that that was one of the criteria. it seems like a chicken and egg kind of a situation, I just think you are being unreasonable. Meta is not as large as the english Wikipedia, where I can point to examples of admin-related work that I have done. I noticed some spam on a couple of pages last week and wanted to remove it as a force of habit from strategy wiki, my only option was marking the page for deletion but by the time I double-checked the criteria and the tag for speedy on meta it was deleted by an admin. People with lesser experience have been given the Sysop tools, but hey..........I just wanted to help out. Theo10011 21:35, 7 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Jafeluv, he's tagged a few pages for deletion
, which you can't see. He's also been active in Meta in general, which is pretty important. Cbrown1023 talk 19:40, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]- Jafeluv is a meta sysop too. --dferg ☎ talk 09:34, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Ah, okay, sorry about that. ;-) Cbrown1023 talk 14:44, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- The deletion taggings were actually made after my comment, I think. And I agree that he's been doing good work in Meta in general. That's not under dispute at all :) Jafeluv 18:42, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- On the "chicken and egg" issue: I think that the "admin-related" area is quite broad, not just spam or vandalism, so there's such a huge lot of things to do (see e.g. Meta:MetaProject to Overhaul Meta)... And without activity in this area it's impossible to understand if you know Meta, its policies, guidelines and processes etc., although obviously one can learn that after being elected. So, don't take Jafeluv's opinion personally. --Nemo 18:29, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- I didnt take it personally Nemo, I understand that there is a huge area under admin-related tasks I would like to point to my record on the strategy wiki as an administrator, strategy wiki might not have been as active but it certainly received its fair share of Vandalism, I also created templates, categorized pages and did general maintenance related tasks there. I can also point to instances on the english Wikipedia where I have reported abusive users, gotten anon user banned for spamming and done general maintenance related tasks. Compared to those two, I agree I am relatively new on Meta but I want to help out here. I only felt the need to request sysop tools after I encountered an opportunity where I felt I could have helped out last week. Meta is no where near the size of the english Wikipedia, putting up tags for speedy on those pages mentioned above took longer for me than for an admin to delete them straight-forward. From the previous RfAs I assumed it was a simple procedure on Meta to request the tools, ironically it was jafeluv's RfA about a month ago that I saw after which I nominated myself. UPDATE:I have made close to 500 edits this weekend, almost all of them were related to maintenance related tasks. I hope this is enough to alleviate any concern about me doing maintenance related tasks on Meta or my willingness to help out. Also, of note is my current standing which would put me ahead of Jafeluv in terms of edit counts on meta. Theo10011 22:20, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose withdrawn since it doesn't really apply anymore. (Re "ahead of Jafeluv in terms of edit count": You and I should meet sometime, I have a ruler and camera we could have fun with!) :) Jafeluv 19:33, 13 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- Not over happy I was asked to reconsider this RfA but anyway... The fact that you made 500 edits over a weekend is interesting but frankly does not change my view. I saw no no need for the tools and one weekend's activity to impress the community doesn't change my view I'm afraid. --Herby talk thyme 07:39, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- I understand, I only asked you to reconsider after Jafeluv's withdrawal which was the only reason you cited. Anyway, Thanks for your time and consideration.Theo10011 07:53, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be a double-standard here, Hoo Man below went in for his RfA yesterday and has unanimous support so far. I would like to point out that Hoo man is an admin from Strategic plan and I was a b-cat there, I have more edits on Meta, I made my first edit before Hoo man yet, I am being opposed by thogo and Herbythyme for those same reasons and yet they are supporting Hoo man.Theo10011 17:14, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I understand, I am withdrawing my request. I only made an observation in my last post not an accusation and they were based in facts. I hope I can build a favorable impression with the community here before I go through with an RfA. Thank you to all who voted, I apologize if my tone seemed aggressive, that was not my intention at any time. Regards. Theo10011 17:34, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Mardetanha, I hope to get to know people here better. I am sorry if my tone seemed a bit harsh above, Hoo man would make a great admin and I support him. Thanks again. Theo10011 17:56, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
