The Menear Principle, named after U.S. Airways pilot Elwood Menear,[1] states that wiki developers and others with server access may as well be granted sysop powers; since they have the ability to exercise sysop powers through the back door, they may as well be given access to the front door as well. The idea is that if there is a sufficient rationale to trust a person with a set of powers, then it is logical to also trust him with a subset of those same powers. This is the practice on Wikimedia Foundation wikis.
