- Yes. Philafrenzy (talk) 12:40, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yes. Claire Thompson (Interested - nothing except ears to contribute!)
- Great idea. Didn't realise there was anyone else in the area interested in doing this sort of thing! matt (talk) 22:25, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
- Well, why not... it's only £5.60 return from Didcot. --Redrose64 (talk; at English Wikipedia) 23:10, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
- Possibly. Reading is easy enough to get to. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 03:17, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yes. John of Reading (talk) 10:14, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
- now listed on tinyurl.com/rosci .. Pass the word
- Its a definite maybe Tuxlie (talk) 14:47, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
- I expect to be there! Gaius Cornelius 08:25, 24 August 2012 (UTC) I am sorry to say that I will not be there after all. I have a terrible cold!
- Hope to be there, maybe a little late depending on which train I catch from Bracknell. I remember this as the 'Shop on the Bridge' that was an Aladdins Cave for electronic things. Dsergeant (talk) 12:30, 26 August 2012 (UTC) The Shop on the Bridge still exists but down the end of the Oxford Road... on a roundabout. It's still called the SotB, which is rather confusing for anyone who doesn't know its former location! matt (talk) 11:14, 5 September 2012 (UTC)
- This is my nearest meetup this year, and I'd like to go but it still costs a considerable amount to travel to Reading(£72 minimum), can I claim travel costs back some how? SunCreator (talk) 12:35, 13 September 2012 (UTC) Sorry, I believe that there is no reimbursement as these are not official UK chapter events, just informal get-togethers. Where are you located? I can help you start your own local event. Philafrenzy (talk) 22:04, 13 September 2012 (UTC) Or give us your nearest city and someone might be able to arrange a lift.Geni (talk) 17:47, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
- I shall do my very best to join you all! Reading: the ultimate venue for a Wiki-meet! D'oh...Loop Withers
- Geni (talk) 17:47, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
- Apologies for my absence. Got a slight flooding problem. Hope meeting is going swimmingly.--Loop Withers (talk) 13:49, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
Agenda
editInformal chitchat with no set agenda.
If you have some ideas for discussion topics, please put them below.
- WikiProject Berkshire seems an obvious one.
- Historic monuments/notable people of Reading/Berkshire.
- Non Berkshire topics.
About the meet up
editA social gathering for Wikimedia enthusiasts, where we...
- Drink coffee and/or beer and some of us have Sunday lunch.
- Chat about Wikipedia and any other topics we fancy.
Mainly a casual social event. You can expect to meet some very keen Wikipedians, however this is also an open invitation to anyone interested in finding out more about Wikipedia, other Wikimedia projects, projects re-using Wikipedia, and other collaborative wiki projects. Feel free to come along and raise these discussions over a beer. Alcohol consumption is optional.
Location
editCopa, 76-78 Kings Road, Reading RG1 3BJ.
Copa host a number of similar events including Sceptics in the Pub and Reading Girl Geeks. Wifi and food are available. This is a Greene King pub. It's bigger than it looks!
How to spot us
editIt's easy to find us - we're usually the crowd with several laptops out. If not look for a laptop logged into Wikipedia, or anyone with a Wikipedia lapel badge or similar. We plan on being as close to the entrance as possible but may be at the back or on the terrace if the pub is crowded. There is a downstairs bar but we don't plan to meet there as we want people to be able to find us easily.
Getting there
editFirst Great Western operate services between London and south Wales, west and south-west England to Reading railway station. Services between London-Paddington and Reading usually only take around 25 minutes (look for the high-speed trains). South West Trains operate services between London-Waterloo and Reading, ideal for those in south-west Greater London and east Berkshire. Cross Country services reach Reading from Hampshire and Dorset in the south, and the Midlands and Manchester from the North.
Kings Road is close to Reading town centre and a five or ten minute walk from the station. The pub is on the south side of the road just past the Christian Science Reading Room.
