Luganda Wikipedia For Education 2021

Luganda is the most widely used native language in Uganda. There is still a hunger for written content in Luganda on various themes for purposes of education, leisure reading, fact checks, to mention but a few. The major goal of this project is to provide content in Luganda on various themes to build a database that can be referred to by researchers, students and lovers of Luganda. In such a period of ;limited physical gatherings and more online education, Wiki4Education aims to encourage students to in secondary schools and beyond, to utilise open education resources like Wikipedia and Wikisource in their learning. In turn we will collaborate with the department of languages at Makerere University and different partners to avail content relevant to the students' learning and to encourage preservation of the Luganda Language This will be a four months initiative.

Goals edit

  • Train at least five Luganda language teachers on how to use open education resources in their classrooms
  • Work with tertiary institutions to create content to be used by secondary school teachers
  • To partner with Buganda kingdom to increase content in Luganda online and to avail information written in correct Luganda

Objectives edit

  • Increase literacy through the use of Wikimedia projects for participating students and teachers.
  • Improve the Luganda wikipedia interface.
  • Create awareness on the use of Luganda Wikipedia in schools and beyond.
  • Conduct advocacy meetings for the adoption of Luganda Wikipedia as an education resource in Uganda schools.
  • Improve quality and quantity of the content on luganda wikipedia
  • To provide a source of incormation for researxhers and lovers of Luganda
