Why Monitor, Track and Report?

Often times we hear great stories about successful programs, inside and outside Wikimedia. But what helps make those stories more tangible are not only the qualitative stories, but also the quantitative numbers. How many participants came? How many stayed as new users? How much content was uploaded? How many participants are motivated to become editors

Without a system for getting this information in place, it can be impossible to gather this information after the program or project is completed. It is always better to plan a systematic way for gathering this information before your program, and this module can serve as a guide.

Data about a program or project can be divided into three general groups: inputs, outputs, and outcomes.
