Iranian Wikimedians User Group/Report/ 2020

Iran was part of Wiki loves monument 2020 and as a result, we received around 8105 files which were uploaded to commons. during the contest, our team has responded to around 150 questions and comments on Twitter, Instagram, and wiki page, and commons.

Instagram edit

Per the emergence of Covid-19 and the intense situation in Iran, we had to halt all of the physical activities, so we had to use Instagram live as one of our tools to reach different audiences to raise awareness about our movement, User group members participated in different Instagram lives, Via this tool we reached thousands of enthusiast all around Iran and another part of the world.

Wikipedia Library edit

We have an active Wikipedia Library program and our team provides dozens of accounts to paid resources to wiki researchers and those who need access to those files. A few users also received a hard copy of the books they needed for their articles.

Education program edit

Like many past years, we had an Education program running multiple universities and educational institutes as a result of these efforts many students and their teachers used Wikipedia as a supplementary tool in their classes especially during covid were students had spent more time online we provided support for students, our volunteers answered around 1000 question from students

Meet ups and gatherings edit

Just before covid, we had a wiki birthday in Tehran, around 150 people convened in our ceremony, the program consisted of several presentation and information booths.

Given the importance of the movement strategy process, we had a strategy saloon and discussion where Mehrdad from the core team presented about recent developments of the strategy process. it followed with several online events in Telegram and whatsapp and discord

AS a result of cooperation between Iranian wikimedian User Group and Wikimedia Norway, we hosted the first Norgeweigan month in Farsi Wikipedia, and as result, we had 1000+ of articles added to Farsi Wikipedia about Norway.
